I definitely recommend the Am Siegestor. Keeping in mind that this is a reasonably cheap guest house, it was a lovely place to stay. Its best feature is the wonderfully warm welcome you will receive from the host Monika; after staying in impersonal hotels and hostels, it is so refreshing to feel looked after and at home. The location of the guesthouse is also a definite plus. It is right by the Englischer Garten which is great for any number of outdoor activities. Also, there are plenty of nearby restaurants and bars in the surrounding streets. Don't be concerned about not being right in the city centre, it is a short 10 minute walk or two stops on the underground (the guesthouse is right around the corner from the Universitat station which takes you directly to Marienplatz, giving you access to the Hauptbahnhof and from there, long distance and regional trains). The room was clean and comfortable, the television worked, and the free wifi had good and reliable signal. Breakfast, included in the roomrate, was typical guesthouse fare (bread, ham, cheese, condiments, cereal, boiled eggs) but there was a wide selection and it was of good quality. I really enjoyed the Am Siegestor and I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

This is the best deal in whole Munich.. My daughter and I spent three weeks in this hotel and we could not be happier. Close to downtown, easy to get to RR we were able to take day trips to Salzburg, Regensburg, Augsburg. etc.. withput having to carry our luggage; Hotel Am Siegestor was our home base. The owner. Mrs. Claus speaks perfect English and is a superb hostes. We'll be glad to go back any time

We stayed at the Siegestor at the beginning of September 2006 and we really can't praise it highly enough. It's a nice location in the University area of the city with easy access to the Englischer Garten and the Schwabing area which has loads of really nice bars and restaurants. Even though the location is peaceful and has a village type feel to it the historic centre is only a couple of U-Bahn stops or a fifteen minute walk away.

The hotel itself is set in an old townhouse (a few flights up, but it has a lift) with loads of character. The rooms are comfortable with a high standard of cleaniness. I think some of the rooms have separate facilities but we had en-suite which I would recommend.

One of the major selling points for the Siegestor however has to be the owner, Monika, who is so helpful and friendly and speaks absolutely perfect English. Breakfast is served from early on until 10am with Monika making sure you have enough to eat! Just perfect, would definitely stay there again when in Munich.

My wife and I had a great experience! Monika (the owner/manager) is one of the most pleasant people to be around. She is always upbeat, helpful, and does everything with a smile on her face. She made us feel extremely welcome. We stayed for 4 nights in a double room (two twin beds put together) on the third floor. Our room did not have its own bathroom (other rooms do) only a sink, which worried us at first, but there were two shared bathrooms on our floor that were always clean and available to use. The rooms have no A/C but the windows open up and that kept the room comfortable, even in early August. Parking was extremely convenient and never a problem for us. The parking lot was just outside the front door of the Pension and cost 4 euro per night. Wifi was included but the connection wasn't always the best in the room. When we were on the 4th floor (where breakfast and reception is) the internet was always perfect. Breakfast was included and we thought it was sufficient but others might prefer more. It consisted of an assortment of breads, cheese, sliced meat, jams, Muesli, yogurt, boiled eggs, juice, tea and coffee. It takes place in a small room that at times required us to wait a couple of minutes for a seat, but no big deal. For us, the location was, for the price we paid, pretty good and easy on the eyes. The Pension sits right next to a giant arch on the main road and it was about a 15 minute straightforward walk to the city center (I believe two stops away by underground but we never used it) through the university district. There are some good restaurants around the corner and Monika gave us some good suggestions (we ate at a nice Bavarian restaurant and an Italian joint). Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again if we return to Munich.

This hotel was great! The building is historic and tastefully decorated. Very clean and comfortable room. The owner/manager Monika Clauß was very kind, attentive and it was helpful to us that she speaks English. The breakfast was pleasant and tasted good. She set out yogurt, granola, breads, spreads and also asked if we wanted meats, cheeses, eggs. The location of the hotel was great. It was near Marienplatz, the University, as well as lots of historic buildings and a park. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed for 3 nights and found the place friendly and very conveniently located.
The room was large, but did not have private facilities which did not pose a problem. The bathroom was across the hall.
The breakfast was good and the owner was very attentive and helpful.
For the price it is very good value.
My only comment would be that I was not sure what floor the hotel was on when I arrived. The signage did not say.

Hotel-Pension Am Siegestor truly is a home from home. A lovely old building full of charm and warmth is made all the more homey thanks to its owner, Monika Clauss, who greets all her guests literally with open arms.

The rooms are spotless, the breakfasts copious, staff charming. Frau Clauss is not only a fabulous hostess but also an inexhaustive one-woman show for tourist information, weather reports (!!) and transport advice. And the location is absolutely perfect. Bang in the middle of Munich with the U-Bahn just around the corner, you can get to just about anywhere in Bavaria without any difficulty at all - and indeed, cross over to Austria, too, on a day-trip.

This is our second stay at Hotel-Pension Am Siegestor and we would definitely go again.
I couldn't recommend it highly enough!

My daughter and I stayed in one of the larger rooms on the fifth floor. The room was immaculate, sunny, and very comfortable. The bathroom was modern and also immaculate. Frau Clauss is a superb and genuinely friendly host.. The hotel is ideally located in the vibrant university district , just steps from a U-Bahn station (and a few short stops from the city centre) and within walking distance of the Englischer Garten. This affordable hotel offers a great deal of old world charm and I would return there in a heartbeat.

There's not much more I can add to the reviews already written except to say that they all accurately reflect mine and my partner's experience at this small, conveniently located hotel. Our room and shared bathroom was spotless. Breakfast was typical and good. And Frau Clauss exudes motherly love on her guests. Free wireless Internet was a strong, reliable connection. You can't go wrong staying here.

Room 57, quiet and on floor 5 served by the lift, is quite narrow, say about 8-9 feet wide. It has two single beds, it's own shower and lavatory etc. The room overlooks the quiet back. The view here will not send you into a rapturous swoon, but it is open, spacious enough and light. I suspect the front picks up some of the traffic noise from busy Ludwig Strasse. The underground station Universität is about 10 minutes walk maximum from the front door.

The boss was away when I stayed mid September 2015, but Julia was very helpful and willing to assist. Breakfast covers most tastes. I had cereal, a roll, a perfectly boiled egg, and a very acceptable jug of coffee. Fresh fruit was on offer. Everywhere was very clean. I could nit pick one thing only, namely the shower doors were not washed down to clean off the condensation. Hardly a complaint.

The very centre is reached on foot in 30 minutes, but public transport is also available.

Munich is a really pleasurable and civilised city with a lot of history and culture. I have always liked it.

For local eateries go North up Ludwig Strasse and turn left. There are many restaurants and small shops. The whole is in the academic area which feels comfortable and civilised enough.

Without any hesitation I would return to this Pension.

I dined at Trattoria da Pino. Very good standard. Kitchen I suspect is hard pressed. They will try to make dishes on request which are not on the menu. No loud music save 5 minutes of music clapping and singing to birthday "victims!".

Is there car parking available? Can anyone tell me the cost? Thank you
Munich, Germany
Dear Michelle, there is no hotel parking, but plenty of public parking spaces available. An official parking ticket costs EUR 6 for 24 hours. Hotel guests can have parking cards at a special price. Kind regards Tanja
