The Platzl Hotel captivates many guests with its central location in Munich's old city, making it a prime spot for exploring nearby attractions. Travelers often commend the friendly staff and the modern, well-maintained amenities.
Although the festive atmosphere and notably clean rooms with comfortable beds receive praise, some reviewers warn about the noise level and mention that the hotel's value is diminished by issues such as construction. While the cleanliness and service are highlights, opinions on room size and pricing vary among guests.

The Platzl Hotel is centrally located in Munich's old town, the Marienplatz subway station is just a few minutes' walk away. The journey from the airport on the S8 line takes 38 minutes without changing trains. The town hall, Viktualienmarkt and the city's numerous museums are also within easy walking distance. The location couldn't be better. Our room was on the 1st floor and had a large queen-size bed (with one large blanket instead of two separate ones as is usual in Germany), a bathroom with a large shower, a small desk and a minibar (water is refilled free of charge, all other drinks including beer are free once, but refills are then charged). There is a kettle, but no coffee machine. The bathroom has shampoo, shower gel and body lotion in refillable bottles, bathrobes are also available and can also be used for the sauna area on the 5th floor. There is a Finnish sauna and a bio sauna with 65 degrees, as well as showers and comfortable loungers. The area is small, but very modern with a view over the rooftops of Munich. The breakfast buffet is very extensive, there is a huge selection and egg dishes can be freshly prepared on request. We didn't visit the restaurants and bar this time, but they are also there if you don't want to use the numerous nightlife options in the immediate vicinity. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the hotel generally focuses on tradition. You can also see this in the design - Bavarian coziness, lots of wood and pictures with local motifs. The hotel is therefore very popular with tourists and is well booked even in the low season, so the lobby or breakfast room can be quite busy.

A beautiful, character filled hotel in an excellent location in Munich. Just steps from so many shops, restaurants and the main market square making it an ideal spot for travellers. Also just a few steps from the underground subway and only 2 short stops from the main train station.
The hotel itself has been remodeled and is currently undergoing further work (some noise during the day). The attention to detail is noticeable and the amenities are appreciated - huge rain shower head, very nice creams, shampoos, etc. The beds are big and comfortable and the AC worked well during the heat wave (30+).
The breakfast was wonderful, memorable and worth a specific mention. They served fresh, local ingredients and had lots of options for everyone - fresh breads and jellies, local meat and cheeses, fresh smoothies and juices, huge selection of teas, coffees, omelette station, bacon, eggs, fruits, yogurts, etc. Honestly, we looked forward to breakfast every morning, as it was that good.
The staff were professional, friendly and courteous and answered any questions we had (in English). We appreciated their service.
Overall, we enjoyed the location, the amenities and the service, but found it a bit expensive. We travelled during Euro 2024, so that may have been the cause for the costs, but would consider other hotels for a future visit.

We had a wonderful 4 night visit at the Platz Hotel in Munich. The location of the hotel near the Marienplatz and most of the other Munich attractions is the reason for our selection. However, it was the quality of the services they provide that make it an outstanding hotel. The staff was excellent, consistently going above and beyond to assist you. The room was both spacious but ours also offered two bathrooms (Toilet & Sink / Shower and Sink) that made life a little less crowded. Food Service was great. We had a dinner package which was a fantastic introduction to German cuisine and the breakfasts should not be missed. It even included a large selections of organic teas. What a way to start the day. We also enjoyed the sitting area and downstairs bar which made you feel welcome, almost part of their family. This was our first stop on a three week tour of Central Europe and definitely set the standard of what we were hoping to enjoy on our vacation. We were not disappointed .

we do when it comes to an overnight stay in our state capital. The Platzl is a must for us. It was once again a very enjoyable experience, thank you very much! The new bathrooms in the rooms have succeeded and we also liked the freshened furniture in the breakfast room. Unfortunately, we did not make it to the new wellness area. The whole service as always top, only in the bar the service seemed a bit unsorted despite many diligent hands at times.

We have stayed in approximately 15 hotels this summer, as we travel through Asia and Europe. So far, our best experience has been at Platzl Hotel in Munich. First, the rooms are extremely clean and have hard wood floors (not old, stinky carpet). Second, the rooms are extremely well designed so that there is room for everything. Third, the cleaning staff does a thorough job, including refilling the mini-fridge with water (always appreciated) and replacing dirty glasses with clean ones. Fourth, the staff goes above and beyond to help travelers. Our youngest child was sick and one of the staff members (Mr. Adrian) personally walked us to his pediatrician’s office, acted as translator for us, and absolutely refused a tip or other compensation. Munich and Berlin were highlights of this trip, in part due to the kindness of the people we met. Thank you.

Great overall hotel experience. We booked two rooms for three nights and arrived by car from Austria. The hotel has its own underground garage for EUR30/24 hours from where the lift goes straight up to the lobby and hotel room floors. Check-in was smooth and very friendly, rooms were spacious and very clean, great bathrooms. We added breakfast which we thought was worth the extra money. Obviously, the hotel's location is excellent, with the Marienplatz, Residenz Munchen and other sights just a short walk away. Thought the hotel offered good value for money and can definitely recommend staying here.

Dear JHKTS, Thank you very much for your brilliant feedback. We are pleased that we are able to offer underground parking for our guests. We are happy to read that you profited from it. Our housekeeping works intensively on the cleanliness of all areas. Thank you for highlighting their work. A delicious breakfast is the ideal foundation for a great day. We recommend adding the breakfast during your reservation process as this helps us a lot with reducing food waste and staff planning. Therefore, we only charge EUR 20,- per person. We look forward to welcoming you again! Best regards Heiko Buchta – general manager

If you are looking for the most traditional looking and beautiful hotel in Munich then the Platzl is for you. We are currently staying at the hotel and check out tomorrow but we decided to write our review early out of pure frustration. Where the Platzl is beautiful to look at and the staff are indeed friendly that’s where it ends. On day one when we arrived we were impressed with the room size considering it’s Europe (deluxe room) but the smell of urine in the bathroom was quite strong. I went to reception and asked if this could be fixed and sure enough when we were out someone came to the room and cleaned the toilet. That night was absolutely terrible. We both hardly slept due to the noise. Firstly there was a party upstairs which the hotel cannot be blamed for but the paper thin walls meant we heard everything, including the tapping of something in the wall which kept us up all night. The following morning I went to reception and informed them of what had happened over night and I asked if we could be moved to a room of the same value and we were assured we could. The lovely gentleman at reception told us when we came back it would be sorted. Unfortunately that was not the case he had gone home and the gentleman now working had no idea what we were talking about, and to make matters worse the smell had returned to our bathroom. From here it was too hard and I told him to forget it. This morning was horrendous. The noise from 7.30 by housekeeping banging doors, moving furniture etc was so loud we decide to get up and go out. When we came back in the afternoon to have a rest the noise was still terrible. We expect that we won’t sleep much tonight so we might have to drink a few more beers to knock ourselves out. Any the moral of my long winded story is, if you are looking for that German idyllic hotel in a great location and don’t mind sleeping then this hotel is for you. The staff have been friendly but we have felt let down by their lack of attention and following up on a simple request.

Dear Quigs1977, thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review about your recent stay at the Platzl Hotel. We regret to read that we were unable to meet your expectations. We are truly sorry that your room move was not executed. We want to internally investigate what has happened in order to prevent it in the future. We hope that you do get in touch with us directly with further details which would be a great help in this process. Our central location in the heart of Munich is indeed connected to a certain level of activity. Our reception desk is open 24/7. Please never hesitate to contact our reception desk if you feel disturbed by neighbors. Our housekeeping team is certainly not supposed to disturb our guests in the early morning. Please know that this will be addressed with our housekeeping manager. We hope that you still enjoyed pleasant hours in Munich and wish you happy holidays. Best regards Heiko Buchta – general manager

I stayed at the end of April 2024, for four nights and it was a great option in Munich. The hotel is very beautiful, Bavarian style, the staff is very friendly. I speak a little German and even with those who don't speak it, like my husband, they are very attentive. The breakfast is delicious, with several local options. It was the best part of my 15-day trip to Europe. The room was great, with a King bed and great quality pillows, which makes a considerable difference during a long trip. As I rented a car, there was parking paid separately for 30 euros per day, with valet, a very kind and friendly gentleman, as well as the reception staff. And, best of all: the location. The hotel is close to good restaurants, such as Ratskeller and Haxel, close to Marienplatz. I recommend it to everyone, especially Brazilians who want to be welcomed in Munich.

Location is superb Marienplatz, viktualienmarkt, Hofgarten,Englisher , Garten, Odeonsplatz etc etc all walkable. Staff are presentable welcoming and efficient. Breakfast is excellent high quality and not to be missed. Room perfectly acceptable ,comfortable bed , small selection of English news channels on TV, bathroom products supplied were welcome, mini bar included with water, soft drinks and beer. You are close to the most famous beerhall in the world so expect to hear people enjoying themselves! Not a problem for us but may be a consideration for some. This isn't the cheapest place to stay but, if you have the budget, the overall experience is good value. A little slice of Bavarian joy. Prost !

Great location, good amenities. Room was expensive given its size, paid $600 AUD per night, very small and no space for luggage. In order to upgrade we needed to add $60AUD per night. Stayed a year before and noticed some changes. No fresh milk for a cup of tea available, only powdered, unless you pay for it. Would stay again but would also look for alternatives.

Dear cherub33sp,
thank you for your question. The fastest and most comfortable way to the Platzl Hotel is either via private transfer (which we are pleased to book for you) or taxi. Alternatively, you may choose to get here with public transport by taking the S1 or S8 train to Marienplatz and another 5 minute walk from there to the Platzl Hotel.
Best regards
