Welcome to Munich's oldest hotel! The 4-star Hotel Torbräu welcomed its first guests in 1490, a fact which can be traced in official documents from the time. Today our guests can expect a modern, family-run establishment that offers an excellent setting: situated directly by the historic Isartor, right by the entrance to the Old Town and just a short walk away from Marienplatz.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is officially classified according to Hotelstars Union standards.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

The included breakfast with its variety receives frequent mentions, enhancing the hotel's value along with reasonable parking prices.

Can't recommend this hotel more highly. First the location is perfect-- very central, just a few minutes walk to Marienplatz, yet sufficiently away from the ultra-tourist zone. In addition to the Marienplatz stop, there is also a station (Isartor) right by the hotel which is very convenient (takes 5-6 minutes, for example, to get the main train station).
The rooms are simply appointed, but extremely comfortable and make the case that things don't have to be opulent to be great. The air-conditioning (needed at this time of the year) worked very well. The bathroom, while also not "fancy" was perfectly decent and came with a very relaxing rain shower. The beds were among the most comfortable I have slept on in a hotel. Not too soft or firm. The breakfast is also expansive, filling and very good quality. (one minor quibble: many of the hot items weren't kept warm e.g., the eggs were nearly room temperature on both days).
But what makes this hotel truly stand out is the staff. Everyone was super helpful without being too formal or fussy. I would definitely stay here again when I am next in Munich.

We loved this hotel. The location is absolutely perfect as it is a short walk to Marienplatz, the sights, and the S-bahn. The hotel was quiet and clean and the breakfast was very good. The staff was helpful and would recommend restaurants and things to do. They went above and beyond patiently explaining directions and answering questions for us. I look forward to staying here again the next time we are in Munich.

We were snowed into Munich by its biggest December snowstorm and I could not be more grateful that we were at Hotel Torbräu. The staff were absolutely unflappable, kind and accommodating, even as the weather madness prevented half their own staff from making it to work and I’m sure every guest had their own interrupted plans and panics. I wouldn’t know, really, because every time I interacted with the incredible people at reception, I felt like I had their full attention and care. Special shout out and thanks to front office manager Silvio, but everyone was great.
Even if you’re not experiencing travel drama and interruption, this hotel is superb. The location at Isartor places you within an easy five-minute walk of the Marienplatz, you’re in the heart of Altstadt. That’s incredibly convenient even when you’re not trudging through snow, and there are scores of nearby shops and restaurants and historic sites to explore. Even with the weather, we walked easily to multiple Christmas markets… in addition to Marienplatz, the Residenz, Mediaeval, and Rindmarkt markets were all very close by, and the Viktualienmarkt, as well. (If you come for Christmas, don’t miss the Feuerzangenbowle at the Isartor.)
Because of the weather and ever-shifting plans, we had the adventure of changing rooms a couple of times, and every one we stayed in was great… clean, comfortable, cosy, and quiet. My favourite was the deluxe double we originally booked, spacious and luxe, but the standard double we had for one night was perfectly fine (and we were surely grateful for it) and the superior double was bigger than I expected and had cosy ski chalet vibes with its warm wood paneling and lighting.
I’ve stayed in other Munich hotels, and I considered many for this trip. I made the right choice, though, and I’ll return to Hotel Torbräu without a doubt. The location, the charm, the history, and the absolutely superlative staff are a winning combination.

We stayed 8 nights with 2 dogs recovering from their plane journey from the U.S. The junior suite we had for 5 nights had 2 rooms with wood floors and a huge bathroom with both shower and deep tub. The superior double for 3 nights had plenty of space and was more open with modern decor and another great shower bath. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were impeccably clean. The hotel is at one end of the central tourist area with plenty of restaurants, stores and the outdoor market. The staff were very accommodating to us and the dogs. Daniel at the front desk was particularly helpful in finding a taxi that would take us to the train station with the dogs. The breakfast was great and nicely set up in a dining room that combined old world service (coffee served at your table set with white cloths) with the modern convenience of a food buffet. The breakfast hostess was particularly kind and friendly and always remembered our coffee order. Only downside was weak Wi-Fi. It was pretty good in the first room but rarely accessible in our second room.

The location in a building of character by the Isartor just 5 minutes walk from the Marienplatz was the chief draw. The standard rooms (size , furnishings and decor) are a little underwhelming but the beds are very comfortable indeed, while the service, cleanliness and the breakfast are also first-rate. We parked right outside the hotel for euros 23,50 per day which is very reasonable- and the front desk staff were kind enough to point out that we had left the car sidelights on- averting a major headache! We were a family of retired and young adults and we all enjoyed the stay and it would be our first choice on a return to Munich.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Torbraeu Hotel, the intention was to stay for 2 nights, however due to a strike at Munich airport our stay was extended to 5 nights. This could have been a problem, however because the hotel and its staff were so wonderful the extended stay turned out to be a blessing. The hotel itself is in what could be described as the best location in Munich, a short straight walk to Marienplatz and right beside the Isator underground where you can get the S8 directly to the airport. The hotel was very clean and the beds very comfortable, the only downside was the coffee in the rooms was a little strong for our tastes. There was a free minibar with some chocolates, soft drinks and beer, a nice little touch was the little pack of Haribo sweets on the pillow each day. The continental breakfast was tasty and plentiful. However the best were the staff, starting with Maggie (Meisechild) apologies I’m sure I’ve spelt it incorrectly! What a lovely lady, she was friendly and welcoming and her English is perfect (really puts us to shame) . Knowing we were out for the day Maggie went to the trouble of phoning us when she discovered that our flight would be cancelled, such a thoughtful thing to do, she helped arrange our extra nights in the hotel giving us the best available rate. She did other thoughtful things, like sharing her chocolates with us when we were waiting in the lounge to go to the airport. It is unbelievable that Maggie had only been working in the hotel industry for 5 weeks! She is a credit to the hotel. I would also like to mention the lovely bar staff, Isobel and Macee who served our drinks with a smile and a friendly chat. Not forgetting the dining room staff Imelda and the other ladies (sorry I don’t know their names). Munich is a fabulous city, the Torbraeu and its staff are fantastic, we hope to return soon. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so special. Richard and Pearl Lee

Perfectly located in the Old Town next to the “Tor” or city gates, this well appointed hotel is an excellent choice for visiting Munich. We were warmly and graciously greeted on our day of arrival. I had notified the hotel that we would be arriving before noon from the US and we were delighted to find our executive suite available on arrival. Room 201 was alongside a small courtyard. Upon entering the room, there was a living area with sofa, coffee table, work desk, and closet. A convenience area had glassware, Krupa coffee maker, fridge stocked with soft drinks, beer and water (included in the price), a small TV, and ample lighting. The large window afforded a view of the courtyard and could be opened if needed. The bedroom featured a double bed (European style which translates to two twins together), a work area, safe, double closet, bench seating, good reading lights, and ample space. The bathroom had a large shower, toilet, double sinks, and attractive step in tub. Again, the large frosted window opened if needed. We found the room to be excellent for comfort and amenities. It was amazingly quiet. The hotel is within an easy (less than 10 minute) walking distance for the Hofbrauhous for Octoberfest and also the Marienplatz for Christmas markets. Highly recommend!

Less than a couple of minutes walk from the Tal S-Bahn station (which is about 27 minutes from the Airport) the hotel has an excellent location about 5 minutes walk from the Marienplatz. Walking around the city centre you quickly realise there are very few hotels there. The hotel has a rich history going back over 400 years. The rooms have a solid quality feel with plenty of wood. Breakfast is served in a room on the first floor from an extensive buffet.

The staff were wonderful as they even accommodated an early check in and storage of luggage on departure. The room was clean and everything worked. They restocked the complimentary beverages daily. The location is great as it is on a side street so road noise is minimal . The subway station is half a block away. Many tourist attractions are within a short walk. There are lots of restaurants in the area. Breakfast was delicious with many options and the quality was very good. Again the staff were very helpful, friendly and spoke very good English.

This hotel is wonderfully located in easy walking distance to many historic parts of the city of interest to tourists. In addition it is just a few steps away from the excellent subway system. All personnel that I engaged with from the front desk to the housekeeping staff were helpful and pleasant and genuinely seemed invested in providing you with the best service possible. The included breakfast buffet was excellent and there were nibbles offered late in the afternoon. I also liked that they are proud of their history and embrace it. However this came at a high price tag during Oktoberfest
