A tricky review to write fairly, as we were - for the first time ever - part of a large group (over 100) of coach tourists. The hotel is a long walk north of downtown Munich, but most of it is through the English Garden, which makes it a pleasant hike. Most people will prefer to take public transport or a taxi. The check-in process was efficient, and our room (124) involved a short walk up the impressive marble staircase with no need to queue for a lift. Our room was spacious and clean. A desk (rather than the oval table) might be more convenient for business travellers, but was fine for us. The bathroom was big enough, and everything worked. The A/C got the nighttime temperature down to where I like it. So the 'bed' part of 'bed and breakfast' was well up to standard. But the breakfast experience was pretty dire. Firstly, there was a significant queue for a table and the staff were rushed and obviously stressed out. Most breakfasters are seated in one huge room which gets very noisy when full, as there are no soft furnishings to absorb sound. The breakfast buffet was good in theory, but in reality many plates / dishes were emptied and not filled quickly enough. Staff members hurrying to refill them were just barely polite if there was somebody blocking their way. This is not a hotel I would return too, but perhaps it was typical of hotels that cater for coach parties.

One of the benefits of a mobile check in was that the room was ready at 10.00 am when we arrived at the hotel.
We stayed in room 541 and our preference regarding the bed was well taken care of.
The staff be it at the reception, breakfast area or house keeping was extremely friendly and prompt. The breakfast spread was also quite good but was always difficult to find a table. A couple of things that we liked was the facility to order an omelette and the thought on coffee to go.
One area of improvement what the hotel could look at is the parking charges, 24€ per day is a tad too much.
Recommended for a stay!! You need to have your own vehicle though to get around.

I stayed at this property several years ago and had some issues. I’m happy to say the service remains excellent (especially from Cristian) and the renovations look great. The breakfast is still great and evening reception is nice for elites although it would be great to have an actual executive lounge in this type of full service city property, at least to get bottles of sparkling water or coffee. Location is in a quiet area north of the center but very convenient via Lufthansa bus from MUC or U-Bahn to city points.

My wife has to travel with some medicines that need to be kept chilled. For any journey, these are carried in a box that is kept cool by two freezer blocks. We have travelled extensively with this arrangement, throughout Europe, to remote areas in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Everywhere, the hotel has been able to provide a freezer to store/re freeze the blocks, for the next leg of our journey. Not apparently, the Munich Marriott. They claim they can’t have contamination in their kitchen freezers (clearly a totally garbage response). But there are two obvious possible solutions to this: either provide a plastic bag so the blocks don’t touch anything else in the freezer or provide a separate “concierge freezer”. Clearly the hotel management just can’t be bothered to provide a service to their clients.
I only chose this particular hotel in Munich because I “lived” in it for a year when I was working but never again - I will choose and recommend other hotels in Munich (including Marriott brands).

The big hotel companies change the room rates based on occupancies and special dates therefor a room can cost one day 150 euros and other days same room can be 700 Euros .
This is like MacDonald charges U for a burger 1 dollar when not busy and 50 dollars during rush hours .
This hotel is a very basic hotel with very small room size , with basic service and basic location , and basic everything except for the price !
If you check rates in BK.com you can see the rate for the same room goes from 150 euros to 700 euros depending on days .
While this is legal or does not make sense at all , and that should be forbidden .
Can u imagine paying different rates for food or clothes or movies or anything based on demand ?
If this hotel would be 150 euros I would say is good but for 400 euros is far too much for what they offer , sorry !
Besides , being an international
Hotel company is a shame that breakfast is so boring , everyday the same and only western good . Why u don't have an Asian corner ?
Why in Asia all hotels serve western breakfast and in Europe they don't serve Asian breakfast when there are now so many Asian in your hotel ?
That's unprofessional !
Limited international TV channels , small shower towels , cheap amenities ( my eyes got so itchy and painful every time I used the gel ), and staff not properly trained as I asked how many rooms the hotel had and , two staff did not know , another said 200 or so and another said 300 over .
Would I recommend it ? Yes for 120 Euros .

We were here booked by Viking at the end of a cruise. As a lifetime titanium elite member during check-in I asked for an upgrade but was told since the room was paid by Viking, I was not eligible for an upgrade, only credit for a night stayed (other Marriott hotels have given an upgrade in this situation). I gave my credit card for incidentals and gave my member number. While waiting for the rooms we ordered from the bar area, but when finished was told that the system would not allow charging to the room and I would have to pay there or check with the desk. Back to the desk where they discovered they had not properly entered the charge card and the system to enter the member number was not working properly. Back to the bar and they finally found how to charge to the room. I had asked about a concierge lounge and was told there was not one, but when we went to find the restaurant we discovered a VIP elite room (e.g.concierge lounge) right off the lobby which had the normal free drinks and snacks for elite members. We started to go in and the attendant looked at a list and said we were not on his list and we would have to check with the front desk. I told him of my status and went in anyway. In general the staff did not seem to know what they were doing and were rude.
The hotel location is not very convenient as it is out from downtown in a residential area. There is a subway station down the street to use to get downtown and it is a moderate ride to the airport. The hotel itself is modern and relatively clean and well equiped.

Responded 14 Sept 2022
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences on your past stay at the Munich Marriott here on TripAdvisor. We are of course very happy that you were overall satisfied with our facilities, maintenance and especially with the cleanliness of our hotel. Nonetheless, we will also take the constructive criticism from your review very seriously and would like to assure you at this point that your words have reached us. Regarding the apparent miscommunication at our front desk, as well as at our lobby bar, we will include your comments in our daily trainings to avoid unnecessary confusion in the future. In this case, it was actually due to a technological reason, which does not allow the bar staff to book a bill on a room, which is not yet "digitally" checked in the system. This could have been dealt with in a better and more understandable way and will also be discussed with the individual employees as feedback. It is further indeed the case that when bookings are made via third-party providers, different rules apply with regard to elite benefits and the employees merely adhered to the specified terms and conditions. I can assure you that it was never their intention to diminish your loyalty to the Marriott Group, which stands on its own as a Lifetime Titanium Elite. I am therefore glad that the employee in our "Elite Zone" used his empowerment and decided to let you enjoy our evening buffet after all, in appreciation of your status. I hope this helped to make your evening in Munich even better and I will personally speak to our reception desk team, how this could have been handled differently. It would be a great pleasure for us if you would give us another chance to convince you of our service, as well as of our usually very popular and convenient location in Schwabing. In the meantime I wish you all the best and safe travels to your next destinations. Best regards from Munich, Cristian Segovia Guest Experience & Safety Manager

I’m not new to international travel. After a career in the U.S. Air Force, and also working as a tour guide in Europe, and not to mention annual (sometimes multiple trips) international trips since 2008 – I’m familiar with the standards of European hotels. For this review, I’m calling out the Marriott Hotel, specifically the Marriott Hotel in Munich on Berliner Strasse. I was persuaded by a travel agent friend to try Delta Vacations, which, in this case included the Munich Marriott. This turned out to be a less than great decision…
My stay here was horrifically bad. During my 5 day stay from December 26th, 2022 to December 31st, 2022 I averaged 2-3 hours of sleep a night because the hotel’s heating & cooling system could not be controlled. My room was so hot that you could not sleep. The thermostat was inoperable. Room 374 should be rejected immediately if you ever have to stay at this hotel. I was repeatedly told that the engineering technical team would respond – and, eventually they did, but could offer only to open a window. After 3 days, I asked to speak to the General Manager, but never got that courtesy. They did send up a personal fan (just want to remind you that this is a Marriott property). On the 4th morning I was offered a room change. I politely declined because upon check in I dutifully unpacked my suitcase and stored my belongings in drawers provided, while hanging up what I needed in terms of trousers & shirts. I would have thought that it was very obvious that I did not want to spend my vacation time repacking & unpacking again – after spending all that money to get to Germany! This is a Marriott hotel after all. Isn’t there a certain level of customer expectation regarding service levels in a hotel like Marriott? Apparently not…they wrecked my vacation because I couldn’t sleep.
To be clear, I have asked for nothing from Marriott – nor would I ever. I left the chain for Hilton & IHG years ago because of issues just like this…with the same nonresponsive attitude from the corporate or general manager level. This is just a caution to anyone taking a trip, and needing a hotel. The message is simply this, you cannot judge a hotel by the name. Marriott is an international brand, but apparently has allowed the hotel’s standards to slip. Consider another hotel that has processes that include better customer service.

Love the breakfast buffet! The location was in a residential area so you don’t get any big city traffic noise. The nearest bus stop was only about a 7 minute walk and from there it’s a short ride to Marienplatz or the Munich Train Station. Taxis were readily available by the entrance. The front desk staff provided great customer service and were helpful with my tourist related questions. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel has a nice terrace area where you can eat/drink/relax on a nice day. Overall this is a top notch hotel.

We had an executive room, yes there was a lot of space, sadly just empty and not properly designed the bathroom was extremely small, you spread your arms, that was how wide it was!!! the closet was tiny as well right behind the door to the room could only accommodate four hangers! That is all the storage space they had!!! How can this executive room accommodate a family of four I don’t know. The rest of the space had the two twin beds, sofa and desk with chair and two tiny windows. Too much unused space that could have been used to expand on the toilet and increase closet size.
Location is way far out, U bahn is a 10 minute walk though. Nothing around if you want to dine or lunch. Breakfast spread was ok, disappointing for the such a brand as Marriott though. We spent 6 days seeing the same bakery items, 3 types of breads, rolls, pretzel and toast plus some sad looking sweet rolls. Fruit selection was poor, everyday it was cut up oranges, pineapples and watermelon. There was an egg station which was a relief as you could get all types of eggs. They also had warm food such as vegetables and one type of sausage. I wouldn’t stay here again.
