Be enchanted by the Carlton Lyon hotel, located on the peninsula. Despite being fully renovated in 2013, it has retained its authenticity and personality, blending contemporary comfort with sophistication. Relax in one of the 80 tastefully decorated rooms or in the cozy atmosphere of the bar. The hotel is just a 5-minute walk from the Bellecour metro stop and is the ideal base for exploring Lyon, with its opera house, museums, the St. Jean cathedral and more. Located between the Rhone and Saone rivers, the Carlton Lyon hotel was built in 1894 as a "petit palace" in Lyon. Punctuated by its forged iron balconies, dome and rotundas, its splendid Haussmann facade echoes the refinement of its historical decor. The hotel's "Signature" rooms also highlight artists who have stayed there. Travelers will appreciate immersing themselves in the splendid adornments of the many talents that have visited the hotel.

We had a 4 night stay in the Carlton & it was everything one hoped for in a hotel. We were greeted by a cheerful & polite chap on reception and everything was clearly explained in good English. Our room - a standard double (210) was clean, well designed and modern. Loved the old lift! Toiletries were provided and a cut above the usual standard, with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion all available. There was also a useful magnifying mirror. The air con (for which we were grateful during the June heatwave) was effective but never oppressive. The hotel location was ideal - in between the two rivers and within walking distance of shops, patisseries, cafes and places of interest. We would definitely stay here again if we returned to Lyon. It was only a short walk to the subway, too. Only downside was the bar and breakfast were both expensive. Breakfast was over 20 E per person. Fine if you want to carb-load ahead of a busy day (there were loads of cakes/breads/cheeses etc) but best to grab a croissant and coffee elsewhere and have a hearty lunch later, like the French do, IMO.

For this return to Lyon, after a few years of absence, and very attached to the brands of the Accor group we could not fail to go to the Carlton MGallery Hotel Collection located in the heart of the city (the peninsula) about twenty minutes walk from the stations of Perrache or Lyon Part Dieu. The nearest metro station (line A) is Cordeliers. Close to the shopping streets and Place Belcour, between Saône and Rhone. Beautiful building with elegant and interior facade with lots of charm both comfortable and luxurious. Warm lobby, delicious hot chocolate available free of charge and check in perfectly executed by Sébastien welcoming and efficient. Access to the floors with a superb old elevator open to the climb of the floors and the must: a bench inside the device. Luckily, a member of the ALL loyalty program, to celebrate our anniversary, we have little benefit from a double upgrade with a beautiful and comfortable room (#403 named Diane Kurys) with a delicious attention (bouquet of flowers and delicious macarons). Our room was very well decorated with furniture that dated a bit but rather functional. Books on shelves that allowed us to discover the city of Lyon and its history. Bathroom with a large shower, care product of the renowned brand Codage Paris. Comfortable white towels. Heated towel dryer. Very easy to use safe to accommodate a laptop. Unseparated toilet. Hair dryer and magnifying mirror, paper tissues. Large flat screen wall TV with all classic French channels and some international channels. Two bottles of sparkling and mineral water offered in the refrigerator and renewed daily. Nespresso coffee maker with capsules and tea bags accompanied by a kettle. Power outlets and blackout curtains. Easy and fast WiFi. Cleanliness of the room. Breakfast on the second floor of the hotel. Buffet to “awaken our taste buds with sweet treats” and a wide choice of quality products all more delicious than the others. Succulent yoghurts from the famous Beillevaire brand. Tea and coffee from organic farming. Possibility to order eggs and pancakes in sweet product at the table. Also available at the buffet of local products and dishes “the signature of Carlton” with for example the opportunity to taste the local sweetness: the brioche with Lyon pralines or the sausage of peasant origin: the rosette. At the bar we enjoyed our welcome drink (fruit juice from Milliat) with a smiling and efficient service. The olfactory signature that prevailed in the hotel accompanied us pleasantly throughout the stay. The check out was perfect with Sandy’s smile and kindness and two new small bottles of water offered for the trip. An exceptional stay that we will keep an excellent memory.

Arrived at the hotel around 9am, thinking to just drop the luggage since it is too for the check-in, to my surprise, the F/O staff checked me in, I even got an upgrade.
The appointed room wasn’t that spacious but it was a cozy with an access (doubled glass) to the little balcony. Tea and coffee maker was available, so were bedroom slippers. Good size bathroom with single sink, it doesn’t have doubled glass window though. Bathroom amenities are from the French good brand codage, towels are thick and soft. Bath sleepers Good shower too. Very comfortable bed and (double) pillows.
Hotel is located conveniently at city Centre, at the corner of place de la Republique to be precisely. Many shops around it. The metro stop cordeliers is few minutes walk.
! City tax wasn’t included in the room rate hence had to be paid at check out
Overal it was at excellent stay. Highly recommended.

We spent 2 nights at the Carlton in May as a couple. We come to Lyon once a year for a weekend and as we do not have a 'regular' hotel yet, we decided to give this one a chance. The location of the hotel is excellent, next to the main shopping street, place bellecour, bridges on either side for crossing the river into old town, the opera etc, and on a quieter side street. We had a room on the 4th floor, which was on the small side. We found the decor dated in the predominantly red and white colour scheme (we saw the pictures beforehand but it looked worse in reality). The room was stuffy during the night, whilst the aircon was noisy and useless, even when turned on at max and on the lowest temperature, so we got 2 very poor nights of sleep during our stay. The bathroom was a good size, and adequate but the shower water pressure was far too low (and bathtub shower not shower cabin). The complementary daily water bottles (1 evian 1 badoit) were welcome. We did not opt for the breakfast, which was served on the 1st floor, but were surprised that in the morning the strong, unpleasant, smell of food reached our 4th (top) floor. The elevator, which is in an old deco style, whilst pretty, was totally inefficient, taking a lot of time to move up and down floors meaning we had to queue sometimes just to enter + completely overused, including by staff carrying food and laundry - which is inappropriate that there is no service elevator. The reception and staff, whilst polite, were not extremely welcoming and could be a little more warm and smiling in welcoming guests. When we asked if public transport is complementary for hotel guests/tourists, as it is in our country (Switzerland) and some other European capitals, the receptionist was rude and dismissive. Overall, we enjoyed the location the most, otherwise we shall be looking for a different 'regular' hotel for our frequent visits to Lyon, as I am sure there are many other better options.

I will try to be as fair as I can with this review so first I will like to mention that I expect to have a clean room when I check into a hotel. Not necessarily luxury , it does not have to be sterile clean, just at least wipe clean. So when I check in a hotel and walk into a room that smells stuffy and see hairs in the bathroom , stains on walls from old coffee spills or something, dirt on top of surfaces and around switches I do get uneasy. I asked for housekeeping if they could come and refresh the room but when we came back at 22:30 hs I could notice only minor improvements. So I put my gloves on and started doing my best with some wipes I carry I could not bare looking at the stains and dirt on the outside closet they still left behind so I had to clean it myself. All it needed is someone to wipe it with a cloth and dirt gone , it was really gross , but I don’t live surrounded by other peoples dirt at home so I don’t expect to spend my vacation like this either Th room need definitely more cleaning than any guess with a wipe can do So if you have any need of an impecable room , maybe this is not your best choice in my opinion

+ Privileged location in the city center, overlooking directly the main shopping street of Lyon. + Beautiful period building, with lots of charm, well renovated, special mention for the superb elevator. + Welcoming and friendly staff. + Breakfast buffet abundant and varied, with quite a lot of local products and Lyon treats. + Excellent bedding, good size television, good soundproofing (double window). + Cosmetic products of the brand "Codage Paris" of excellent quality. + Nespresso machine with original capsules. + Good recognition Accor ALL Gold (upgrade and welcome drink).
LESS:
Relatively small room. Our room did not have a door between the bathroom and the sleeping area, which offers little privacy and also has the effect of letting in quite a bit of light in the morning. - Small breakfast room, but additional rooms are opened by staff as needed. - The re-assortment of the breakfast buffet was a little lacking from 09:30, when there was still an hour of opening (e.g. scrambled eggs, macarons, etc.). - Public parking "Republic" very expensive.

On arrival we were treated very well with a porter whisking our luggage away while we booked into the hotel. They also dealt with the parking of our car. The famous old elevator took us to our suite which was very comfortably outfitted and had fine views overlooking the nearby square. They do not have a restaurant but a very nice hotel bar. The food snacks available on room service were also very good. I had also got about a third off the price on a deal due to the length of our stay(4 nights). The location, which is only 5 minutes walk from the old town, and has many good shops and restaurants/cafes very close by was great. We will be returning .

This hotel is very welcoming and very well located in the historic center of Lyon in an old building which has retained its charm. The welcome is warm, a valet parking service allows you to avoid having to find a space or parking in a city where cars are clearly not welcome. We were able to appreciate the proximity of old Lyon, restaurants, pedestrian streets and monuments. Pleasant and spacious rooms overlooking quiet streets. The breakfast is quality. However, a reminder of the rules of etiquette at the bar and in the breakfast room would be necessary to remind customers of a minimum of etiquette because other customers are not necessarily interested in the content of telephone communications or videos on laptops. made out loud without any restraint. This small detail (however very annoying), does not completely spoil the pleasure of staying in this hotel.

Stunning An ideal location in the heart of Lyon and staff who take great care of customers. The soundproofing of the rooms is perfect, we stayed during the Festival of Lights and were not at all disturbed by the noise from the street. An ideal location in Lyon.

We had a wonderful stay at the M Gallery Carlton, Lyon. Very well located to shopping and seeing the sights. The staff were great at giving us recommendations for places to eat and set it up for us. We had laundry done while there ( we are traveling for a month) and if you drop off at 9 at front desk it is same day service. The happy hour prices for wine is fantastic in the beautiful hotel lounge. Also loved riding the beautiful old elevator.
