The Excelsior Chamonix Hotel & Spa offers a fusion of classic charm and contemporary features, with the atmosphere and spa amenities eliciting mixed reactions from guests. While the location is praised for its convenience to transport and ski areas, the establishment falls short for some in cleanliness and value, with additional fees and inconsistent service quality noted. Room experiences vary, with commendations for scenic views countered by concerns over upkeep and decor.

As far as we are concerned, the stay was mixed.

We had a prepaid Verychic voucher and we had already paid the total amount before arriving.

However, when checking in, I was asked to pay more than €380. It took more than 10 minutes for the person at reception to actually realize that everything had already been sorted.

In short, it's not serious, but it suggests the rest. Particularly the level of amateurism of the staff...

We arrived at the room and discovered a huge stain on the worn carpet (1m in diameter), dust on the bedside tables, hair on the bed, the bathroom cleaned extremely sparsely and the fridge was extremely dirty.

To make matters worse, there was no ventilation system in the room, it smelled musty and it was impossible to get the smell to go away.

In short (once again), we are optimistic and we have decided to have a good stay.

There, we go to the swimming pool, which actually has a nice view, although the pool house still hides the mountains, but we are around this swimming pool, on the other hand, I don't understand why we have to cross the restaurant to go swimming, it is neither practical nor comfortable (you always have to put your clothes back on before going back to the room.

The night was cut short, we thought that by going through Verychic we would normally be upgraded, very clearly that was not the case, in fact, we even had the impression of having one of the worst rooms.

No sound insulation, we overlooked the parking lot and the coaches which arrive at 6:30 a.m. (many tour operator tourists in the hotel) and leave the engine running for more than half an hour just below the window, this is not the case. It's not what we expected from a 4 star.

In the morning we were able to enjoy breakfast which was excellent and in front of this magnificent view, it was very pleasant.

Subsequently, we spent an hour at the spa, once again, the cleanliness clearly leaves something to be desired, for example, the countless traces of mold in the natural stone showers, not to mention the rest.

My wife did not want to return there the next day, precisely because of the lack of cleanliness.

Our overall opinion: It's a shame, the hotel could leave a better memory if the staff were better trained, more experienced and above all if the whole establishment was cleaner and slightly modernized.

Above all, we had the impression that the establishment was resting on its laurels and that thanks to the influx of foreign tourists from tour operators, they do not need to maintain too high a standard, just enough is enough.

The advantages of the hotel are the location (it is possible to park at no extra cost, which is impossible in the middle of Chamonix), the view which is very pleasant (although we only have it when leaving our room , since we had a view of the parking lot...), and breakfast.

Welcoming staff, very comfortable, spotless rooms, quiet location with stunning views of Mont Blanc Massif, fantastic breakfast options catering for all tastes, conveniently located for bus and train services within the the Chamonix Valley. Cannot recommend highly enough. On the expensive side, but you get what you pay for.

We arrived at the hotel, the hotel looks nicer in the pictures, we paid for the room upgrade and got a room with a balcony and a building opposite and not facing the mountain, so we went back to reception and asked for the upgrade, to our delight we got another room with a balcony with a mountain view. The bathroom was not clean, it was full of black hairs... and the carpet is really old with stains, they need to improve on cleanliness. The spa is free and great, take into account that you need to book in advance a half hour jacuzzi and a half hour hammam, the pool is free until 9:00 p.m. heated to 26 degrees, free parking, a quiet area in front of the magical snowy mountain and a rich breakfast (without vegetables) in front of the mountain, magic! There is a kettle and tea in the room, good toiletries, a fan, comfortable pillows, overall fine and quiet, a breathtaking view, in front of lots of Blanc- Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Excelsior Chamonix Hotel & Spa

This hotel has so much potential with it’s beautiful Mountain View but unfortunately our one night stay on a 16 night journey was below par. The first thing we noticed, the people were not friendly. And even so we were given misinformation from the hotel staff on which train to get off on for Aigiulle and that we could store our luggage at train station (which we COULD NOT). Thankfully a nice lady at Aigiulle let us keep our luggage there. The location to the train station was nice but if we ever go back to Chamonix we will stay closer to the city center area. The rooms were okay (it was the smallest on our journey) beds weren’t too bed so that was good. Breakfast was okay but dinner was way over priced and the pork had so much fat I couldn’t eat it. The view was the best thing about this hotel.

Avoid - I have stayed in a variety of places in the alps ranging from the cheapest small rooms & hostels through to 4/5 star as I got a little bit older. I never expect perfection but do expect value for the money I pay. Despite prices in chamonix being expensive in context, the money for this hotel does not match the service & I will never return. This is despite breakfast being good and a great view of the mountains.

On check in we were given initially the smallest possible room despite paying for a larger one. Eventually we were offered an upgrade after complaining. I have seen this tactic many times in hotels trying to give the worst room to clients who arrive late evening & look happiest & least likely to complain. There were many empty rooms in the hotel and no need to do this to us.

The spa: It isn’t a spa, just a sauna and hot tub. 20 euros per person per night for the spa for hotel guests is false advertising. No other hotel does this. For hotel customers it should be free.

The hotel restaurant & bar is also far too expensive and many restaurants in chamonix town are cheaper. To give example, most bottles of wine are over 50 euros. A Main course is mostly over 40 euros. A vodka & coke 19 euros (!). These extortionate prices forced us onto the bus every evening where we ironically found far better value at even premium restaurants in chamonix town.

We planned a last minute weekend and booked last minute a room for three people at 470 euros. At this rate i expected a standard 4 star hotel (not wonderful but still four star). The hotel is dated and definitively not a four star . Lobby , corridor and rooms have cheap moquette ( looks like a car rental office more than a hotel lobby). The room we stayed was in an annex behind the main building overlooking a wall. The room was dusty and basic. Bed was ok.
Only kind of four star were the dressing gowns !
Only nice thing of the hotel is the view from the breakfast room but everything feels really cheap and breakfast is below average.
We travel a lot all over the world in a broad range of hotels going from 5 stars to charming three stars but this was just a bad mistake. I was mislead by the reviews and did not expect it like this at all (although some reviews were indeed just correct about it)
I think you can find much better in Chamonix if you look early .

The hotel advertises it self as a hotel and SPA, should you know that its only 30 minutes for the jacuzzi and 30 minutes for the Sauna.
We kept asking for extra towels and water because we booked a suite for 3 people and they never put enough.
I don’t feel the hotel is worth the price overall.
Its far from chamonix center where most stations are and i wish someone told me this before, even if you have a car the traffic is really heavy and parking impossible to find after 9.30 am due to skiers, the buses are very very crowded to a shocking point.
So actually being in the center is very handy.
The reception and bar has actually nice staff and they were always their to help with any concerns, i was even offered a drink by the lovely girl from the front desk in the bar, however upon check out my kids wore their ski boots to exit ( they didn’t know it was not allowed) i found the manager holding them to one side and she removed their shoes and was giving them a lecture on how they were not supposed to do so, i tried to explain to her that we didn’t know and that they are only children but she wouldn’t stop.
I had to beg her to stop repeating her self and to just let us check out, it was pointless and she certainly lack social skills and communication.
This incident did spoil our day and my daughter still remembers it.
The one star rating is for her behaviour that is not acceptable.

Dear guest, Thank you for your feedback. To access to the spa, you have to make a reservation, for a total of 1 hour. For safety reasons, we have to limit the entrance to 4 person maximum. Please mention how many person will sleep in the room, so that the housekeeping staff can provide enough amenities. We are not located in the city center of Chamonix, but at 10 minutes from it, by car, bus or train. At your arrival, you can ask for a "Carte d'hôte" which allows you to travel for free by bus and train. You can access a ski slope in 5 minutes by bus, but it is true that some ski slopes have a small car park, but we are not responsible for that matter. That is why, even if you have a car, we can provide you with a "Carte d'hôte". The buses can be crowded with skiers, but that's because Chamonix is a ski resort. We are truly sorry for the incident you had, it is a misunderstanding from our side. Sincerely, The front desk

For a 4-star hotel, this is quite disappointing. All the services that make it a 4 star are paid... We are in a welcoming bcp place of hikers but nothing to wash his things. We are sent back to the laundry facilities of the center which is 5km away, forced to take the bus etc... It is also impossible to dry his belongings in the rooms since the towel warmers did not work.
For the pool in case of bad weather, it is closed, protection to provide this would be welcome

Too bad there are all these negative sides because the rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable.

Overall we are more on a very good 3 stars than on a 4 stars.

Great location with the ski bus stop around the corner and starting point for hikes. Very friendly and guest-oriented staff. Beautiful, old-fashioned hotel with modern elements. Practically furnished rooms with the option to make tea/coffee and space in the fridge for French delicacies that you want to take home. Possibility to work at the desk with good lighting and the opportunity to relax in the comfortable sofa chair. Beautiful view of Mont Blanc and Aiguille du Midi. Lockable cupboards in the ski cellar. Parking outside and in the garage. Beautiful, cozy spa with sauna, steam bath and whirlpool, outdoor swimming pool in summer.

Disappointed with this hotel given the price, the rooms are not super clean, despite everything very functional, except the WC when you sit down you have the radiator button in your knee, we overlooked the train but no noise that bothered us not get in the way. The swimming pool is very very cold, the jacuzzi there are too many people for its size, it's unpleasant! We weren't able to take advantage of it despite booking in advance.
Top notch staff! Saw it is incredible.
