Nestled near the port, the InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu, an IHG hotel, garners praise for its spotless, spacious rooms and modern vibe, complemented by breathtaking views. While the facilities, including a well-stocked gym and sumptuous breakfast spread, are generally celebrated, guests have called out inconsistencies in service quality.
The hotel's location is a highlight, providing easy access to local eateries and attractions. However, some travelers question the value, pointing to overpriced amenities and service pitfalls that detract from the overall experience.

This is a wonderful hotel conversion in a good location, being easily walkable to the Old Port and Le Panier for example.
Due to some problems with a botched IT update, we were upgraded to a fabulous suite with huge terrace and uninterrupted views of Notre-Dame de la Garde. The TVs in our room actually included a few English terrestrial channels which was unusual for French hotels. But not everything was perfect in the room...the lack of beside USB sockets was a niggle.
The vast terrace restaurant on the first floor served some excellent dishes and was surprisingly reasonable value for money. Also on the first floor was a decent gym and an indoor pool. Given that Marseille is blessed with a lot of sunshine, an outdoor pool would have been nice.
Breakfast was essentially international and a bit limited. Valet parking, whilst a little pricey, was a real plus point for us given how hectic things were outside the hotel grounds.
A great stay.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us, particularly the beauty of our hotel, its location, your upgrade, the restaurant, our valet parking but also your breakfast ! However, I feel sorry about your deception concerning our indoor swimming pool. Please note that our establishment being housed in a 18th century Historical Monument, we were unfortunately not allowed to build an outdoor swimming pool. However, we have developed offers with gorgeous cruise ships or with the prestigious Cercle des Nageurs. During your next visit, feel free to contact our Concierge team for more information. We hope to have the chance to welcome you again during your next stay in Marseille. Best regards,

Stayed 3 wonderful nights at the Hotel Dieu while I was in Marseille. It’s in a super location minutes from the port and it is a very luxurious hotel with spacious rooms, I very much enjoyed my stay except for the steep steps leading up to the hotel !
Arrived early evening to a busy reception and checkin took a little longer than expected but they were apologetic and courteous even arranging some bubbles while we waiting which was appreciated.
Room was on the fifth floor with amazing views over the port and Notre-Dame de la Garde watching over you from the mountain. The room was well appointed, the bed very comfortable, crisp linens and big pillows and very spacious, lots of storage space and a big desk area.
The bathroom was nearly as big as the bedroom, separate shower and toilet cubicles and a very long tub so no need to squeeze yourself in. Plenty of toiletries and soaps and extra shower gel came very quickly when requested from housekeeping. The towels were especially soft too. Everything was clean and sanitized.
There was a coffee machine and mini bar which I did not use plus 2 small waters which were replaced every day which was nice. I also liked the gift of Marseille soap and Navette biscuits with the little story behind them on the desk .
Breakfast was not included in my rate and a little pricy so opted to get something from the numerous cafes along Rue Caisserie, some do not open until 10.00 so beware if you are an early riser. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and spoke great English and other languages too.
The location of the hotel is second to none, right beside the Hotel de Ville, the bus 60 from the stop outside the hotel brings you up to the Basilica on the mountain. ( Do get the 48/72 hour travelcard) The port and old town are minutes away so it’s very easy to wander around and see the sights or get a boat trip to the islands or explore the calanques.

We have just returned from a four night stay at this spectacular hotel. We had seen this hotel on a previous trip to Marseille and always had ambitions to stay here the next time we visited, and we were not dissapointed. The building itself is just stunning and every time you return to it you're in awe, it's lit up so pretty at night.
We stayed in an executive room with terrace, it was worth the extra fee for this room as the terrace space you have is fantastic. I could easily have sat there all day and night and soaked up the beautiful view of the Notre Dame de la Garde. The room was like the rest of the hotel, classic, well appointed, extremely clean. A great waterfall shower and roll top bath (with access to the room view due to the shutter doors). The rooms were well soundproofed, although you do occasionally hear people on the next terrace to you if they are out at the same time as you (and if they have loud voices) but we only heard our neighbours on the terrace once.
Breakfast was brilliant - a great selection, all good quality, and regularly replenished if anything runs low. You can also order freshly cooked eggs or omelettes when ordering your hot drinks from the waiters.
The spa was lovely - a nice pool, steam room, sauna and experience showers that we had complimentary use of and visited every day. The morning's seemed to be less busy than late afternoon but due to covid restrictions they limit the number of people able to use it at any time so it's never too busy.
The location of the hotel is fantastic, in the Panier district so near lots of lovely shops and restaurants, and only a short walk to the main tourist area of the Port.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful as well, I've read reviews saying they had bad service but that was the opposite of our experience - they always had concierge on and at least two receptionists to help with guest enquiries.
The Capian bar was unfortunately closed during our stay, however they would serve refreshments to resident guests on the terrace. The raspberry mojito did not dissapoint!
We very much enjoyed our stay, and look forward to returning in the future.

This was our second stay at the InterContinental in Marseille and after our great first stay we had the same high expectations. We emailed the hotel in advance requesting for an early check in and also a parking space for our car.
We arrived on a sunny day and drove up to the reception to drop our car. There was a queue and took a while before we were helped by a staff member. He informed us if we were not on the list, we would not have a car space. Luckily for us, they booked a space for our car.
We went inside to check in but were confronted with a huge queue in front of the reception. Even the priority check in desk had long queues. The reception was clearly understaffed and we eventually had to wait 25 minutes to check in which is unheard of at any five stay IHG hotel, for me as Spire Ambassador member.
The lady who checked us in was very apologetic and said they did not expect that many people to check in at once even though the hotel was fully booked. She quickly checked us in and informed us we got a nice upgrade to a room with a large balcony and view over Marseille. The room itself was nice and had a modern bathroom. The AC worked fine and had a large and beautiful balcony overlooking the terrace of the restaurant and Marseille old town.
The location of the hotel was great and everything was closeby and can be reached by foot.
We could enjoy some live music from our terrace as the hotel's restaurant had a singer till about 22h. We later went to bed for a short night sleep, next morning we expected to leave around 06h. However, during the evening and night we had a lot of noise disturbance from the rooms next to us with terraces. Also the room above us, which had their window open during the entire evening and night. They seemed to bee young people who had portable speakers with them, drinking a lot of alcohol and smoked a lot of illegal stuff. Around 3AM we were woken up by the continuous laughs, screams and noise from the rooms around us so I called reception.
It took me four calls before someone took the phone and so I could explain the situation. I requested to send security up to make sure this noise from the other guests could stop and we could sleep.
It took another 20 minutes till the music and noise stopped. This was totally unacceptable and next morning when we checked out, staff were unaware of the events and even after I explained this, not even an apology was given. I spoke shortly to - I think to be - a manager and she said these things happen more often in the hotel and there was not much they could do.
Overall a stunning property but for us a very bad sleep and not the five star service we expect from an InterContinental.

Hi WTMax, I'm glad you chose our hotel for your visit to Marseille. Thank you for staying. We promise a comfortable and convenient experience for all of our guests. I'm sorry you experienced issues with the stay, especially with the check-in, staffing, sound insulation, and staff service. I can see these dampened your visit. Trust that I alerted our management about this so we can make the necessary changes to better our service. We appreciate your feedback about your stay and looking forward to your next travel. Many Thanks, Rein V Case Manager IHGService

We stayed here at the end of May for two nights. This is an exceptionally beautiful, luxurious and unique hotel setting, having formerly been a city hospital. Aspects of the original building were beautifully maintained in the renovation. Location is spectacular, on an elevated site about 5 minutes walk (down many steps) to the Old port. 5 stars! Cannot say the same for the service, however. Checked in the first evening to find a stale smell of smoke in the room. Not acceptable! Also, room was dark as it looked onto a wall of a side alley! Rang reception from the room. Receptionist would have to speak to a supervisor and ring us back! 10/15 mins later we had to ring back to enquire for an update. Supervisor still not back! Some minutes later she called back to say they would change us and the porter would be up to our room. He arrived up shortly after that and we duly followed him. As we waited for the lift he then enquired if we had the keys for the new room? No how could we? He was only to help with bags. (We had 2 small weekend bags we carried ourselves!) We would have to go back down to reception to get the keys. It was his first day on the job! Went down. Keys still not ready. Another wait for this! No apology whatsoever from young female receptionist for either the inconvenience or the odour issue in room. Or from anyone since! Supervisor did not address us! Very unsatisfactory from a 5 *! Overall, however, service throughout the hotel was very good. Highlights of our stay were an impeccably clean and comfortable room overlooking a beautiful courtyard; a large and varied breakfast buffet with exceptional quality food and choice and an exquisite setting on an outside terrace overlooking Marseille; evening drinks on same terrace. Thank you all at the Intercontinental!

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu. We are delighted that you enjoyed the beauty and the location of our hotel, the quality of service, our varied breakfast, the view from your second bedroom but also its comfort and cleanliness. Please be assured that I will share your comments with our teams who will be delighted to hear such a wonderful feedback ! Nevertheless, I am really sorry to read your deception about the beginning of your stay with us. I immediately transferred your remarks to the managers concerned. It is obvious that these types of incidents should not have happened in a hotel of our standard. We are implementing the necessary procedures in order to overcome the problems you encountered and make sure that they will not happen again in the future. Please, be advised that we implemented trainings to host our guests in a better way. Please rest assured that the comfort and the satisfaction of our guests are our first preoccupation. I spent two nights in an amazing "prestige suite" #340, after a very welcomed upgrade. The whole building is gorgeous, and I enjoyed a lot the Valentine menu offered by room service for dinner. Anyhow, I experienced three major mishaps during my stay. First, when returning late to my suite, I found it cold and windy, ruined by strong mistral flowing through: two of the very large windows were opened and everything had been blown away, fallen down (broken bed side lamps...) or had flown out of the room (toiletries, personal items...). Obviously these windows had not been properly locked by previous guests or by housemaids. Anyhow, housekeeper should have checked that. Furthermore I could not join anyone by phone to ask for help: "instant service" did not answer, nor front desk. Both kept hanging up before actually answering my calls: unacceptable. I actually managed to talk to staff by phoning the hotel general number with my own cellular. Various employees then came to my suite to put everything in order, which took ages, and there was no way to make the place get quickly warmer after -I guess- a long time spent with windows opened in winter. Hours later, I had to shower in a 14°C bathroom (in spite of the additional electric heater provided), outrageous. I do not consider acceptable either to provide stale items in the courtesy tray, with milk expired 7 months ago (see picture). I also experienced room service mishaps for breakfast which did not come at the reserved slot (I had to phone to complain and got late service) and did not bring the right order either (brought me breakfast for 6 people instead of 1). Overall an average experience: this great property is marred by poor service.

My husband and I recently stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of a 10-day swing through Provence. The hotel is very centrally located within walking distance to the port and the charming Panier neighborhood. We walked everywhere within Marseille during our stay. The service was excellent. Our room was ready early, which when you are coming off an overnight flight means everything. The concierge Alban helpfully made us a dinner reservation for the first night and when there was an unexpected rainstorm, the front desk lent us umbrellas to walk to dinner. The lobby and public spaces are drop dead gorgeous. My only minor complaint is that our harbor view room was small and dark and was located off a kind of out of the way hallway that was quite warm; I expect the more expensive rooms are larger and better located. The hotels we stayed at for the rest of our trip were more charming; this felt like a very nice business hotel. But I would likely stay there again in Marseille for the location and helpful staff.

A Good Brand I Suppose that too an International one, but I have started doubting it. Was there with my family, were there for 3 nights and were checked in a Privilege Suite. Though the location was Good being on the Height got a good view of the Yatch Harbour and few parts of the city and the old wall but that’s where the Privileges end.
Half of the staff does not Understand English. That for the snobbish french attitude
Put up in a suite at, around 2pm or thereabout, where the air conditioning was not working properly but the stubborn snobish and intelligent than thou Front Office Manager ( as she introduced herself) Ms Charlloet and the AIr coditioning staff on duty were adamant as starched clothes with a big snobbish ego refused to accept that despite being shown the rising temperature of room(camera shots) of the temp on their air conditioning panel ( incresing from initial 24° to 24.6°. ) in the bedroom and 26° in the other tooms but the Mademoiselle Charlloet tried all her stubborn best to tell us that we are stupid or maybe she is anti Indians and she thought that Indians are fools. After 5 hrs of trying to convince the manager and after the change of manager for the night the Gentleman on duty understood the problem and acknowledged it and changed the Room
Though there were other minor hiccups after that regarding the laundary which was given at the time when we shifted to the first room and it was returned to us only on the day of our checkout (after 3 days).

First stay for us at this hotel in Marseille which turned out to be overall correct.
The location is of course excellent, close to the old port with access to valet parking to leave your car in a secure place (rare in Marseille...).
For the rest, although the establishment is only 10 years old, we were not sensitive to its style of decor which seemed a bit old because of the shades of gray/dark brown which darken the rooms much.
The breakfast was of a good standard though very classic.
As for the spa it was unfortunately closed, we could only enjoy the pool (which was not very hot), neither saunas nor steam room.
Big downside though, on the welcome. We were entitled to an upgrade and had specified that it was a wedding anniversary. The upgrade turned out to be a room with two single beds, not really a good idea so. We were also entitled to the late check out which turned out to be a disaster, the maids came twice to make the room, a third person came to bring a "welcome gift" (which we had not been entitled to by the way) certainly planned for the customer who followed us and an hour before the end of the late check out the reception called us back to know if we planned to leave soon. Not pro at all, no communication about the fact that we occupied the room.
It should also be noted that our room was not prepared in the evening for bed when we were out for dinner and that no attention was scheduled for our arrival or our anniversary.
Anyway, a lot of little things that separate a decent 5* from a palace.
In short, faced with the overall low level of hotel offer in Marseille, this hotel manages to do pretty much but without sparkling its services either.

Overall this is a good hotel. I wouldn't go as far as 5 stars but definitely 4+. The staff is friendly, the rooms are quite good and the hotel building is rather impressive.Â
There was only one restaurant open when we visited but it's a lovely restaurant on a big terrace, the food is well above average, it has a lovely view towards the "vieux port" and the "Basilique Notre-Dame".Â
A few whoops though.Â
When we arrived the staff at the reception asked if we wanted rooms on the same floor. Ehh, I had booked two interconnecting rooms. Bit of a bad first impression.Â
Also the WiFi was really bad. Constantly dropping on all our devices (5 of them).Â
Apart from that we had a great time.

I do not remember. Î' pretty sure that if you ask the hotel, they will answer you promply. Even, they should provide you a room equiped with what you désire if you ask.
Yes for an extra charge.
