A stay in La Mirande is an invitation to travel through the exquisite world of decorative art. Located right in the historical city center of Avignon, right behind the Popes' Palace, it accommodates a sophisticated décor, evoking an 18th century atmosphere and the sedate style of life belonging to times of old. The charm is extended to the 26 rooms with their painted panelling, drapes, parquet floors and traditional flooring.

Not only this hotel is a historic building, but each room has got its own character, the staff is extremely friendly and professional. To access the hotel by car can be very tricky and difficult, depending on the car size, as streets are very small. We tried the surprise 9 course Michelin menu at the restaurant. It was an interesting experience, but 9 course is only for very hungry people. Also unclear, who is the Michelin Star Chef? Overall a very pleasant stay and perfect location to explore the town.

This is one amazing hotel !
It’s hard to outdo previous reviews but I had to put in a few words to let the owner and manager and staff know that I appreciate their superb service
Of course the photos on the website speak for the beauty of the building
But they do not tell you about the ultra modern restoration:
Hot water, large and functional shower, huge bathroom with separate wc, accurate temperature control and windows that open, good Wi-Fi and entertainment systems that will surprise you! So much creative technology hidden behind those gorgeous walls. This is unique among older buildings that have become hotels, especially in France.
Cannot say enough about service—always helpful…always friendly..always available.
And the food….ooh la la
Breakfast …tea …bar food …dinner
believe the website …it is accurate!

We very much enjoyed our stay at La Mirande. We had a room in a separate building, which was private and quiet off the garden. The amenities were wonderful, though I did have a lightbulb out in the bathroom that was never replaced and a light in the chandelier over the bed that was broken. The shower was fantastic, and the bed was comfortable. The breakfasts were also very good. And the location next to the Pope's Palace cannot be beat!

My one disappointment was with the dinner menu on the terrace. It was very limited (4 choices only), and when we asked to order from the other restaurant menu we were told no. 35 euros for spaghetti is steep for pasta and sauce only, but I will say it was very good. Also, I would avoid ordering cocktails. They were piled so high with crushed ice, it formed a dome and there was very little alcohol as a result.

Otherwise, our stay was very pleasant and I would recommend this hotel.

At check in, we were ‘kindly upgraded’ to room 27. After checking the room, we understood this was not for us. Extremely heavy atmosphere, strong naphthalene smell and limited natural light. We asked the reception to move to the original room (24) which is located on the first floor in front of the Palais des Papes.

In a nutshell:
- terrible mattress
- No sound insulation at all, one can hear everything from the corridor, the conversations from the reception located below the room and the street (1 am bikes and cars parades are a must)
- Half of the power outlets do not work.

Reception staff is helpless, definitely not a 5 star ‘hotel’. Would expect more for 400 eur a night in November.

The steak tartare with truffles is more a mayonnaise with beef than a proper tartare.
Wine was good.

If you are seeking to waste some time and money in a heavy place this is a must, every other reason is trowing money out of the window.

Even in the midst of COVID, with all of its challenges, the service and quality of care is off the charts! The location is the finest in all of Avignon - views of the Pope's Palace just outside your window. The La Table Haute (Chef's Table) was a culinary highlight of our trip. the chefs are fun, engaging, knowledgeable and incredible at their craft. Definitely a MUST on your visit. Please don't miss it - Great Food, Service & Memory!

A stay here feeling going back in time but with the modern amenities. We stayed in room 20, which is a corner room that has a lot of light, very spacious too although the layout is a bit odd (toilet and the bathroom are separated by a very long hall way). While it was hot outside, the room always stayed very cool so my thermostat stayed at 74 but still cool (I’d imagine that it might be actually be a little cold in winter despite you can turn on the heater).

The one star restaurant at the hotel was amazing! I only did the 3 meal course but the little dishes kept on coming in and each dish was so creative and delicious. The meal lasted over 3 hours but was very enjoyable.

If you are driving to the hotel, the roads do turn narrower and narrower where it can be a bit nerve wracking to drive, so renting a small car would be recommended. When we leave on the last day, we made a wrong turn and almost got stuck in a tight corner. 😅. Going in and out or Avignon also always seemed to have traffic, so do plan a bit more time going in and out of the hotel. Valet could take up 15 min as well.

Hello, We would like to thank you for your feedback. We assure you that the room is warm enough during the winter 😊. We are glad to know that you enjoyed your experience at the gourmet restaurant. It is true that the access to the city heart is a little bit tricky. Thank you for advising our future guests. We look forward to welcoming you here again. Kind regards

Not really my style of hotel, very old fashioned. Received poor condescending service when trying to resolve an issue (wifi didn’t work in my room and i was trying to have do some business calls). Wifi didn’t work for my entire stay and the problem seemed to be isolated to my room only so they didn’t seem to be interested in finding a practical solution and were unable to change my room. Food was just ok, location was good though

My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of staying at La Mirande for three nights in December 2023. It has been my dream for many years to stay at La Mirande. And La Mirande did not disappoint in fact it far exceeded our expectations! The hotel is perfectly located right next to the Palais des Papes. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning understated elegance at its best. The rooms are beautifully decorated with lovely furnishings and sumptuous Pierre Frey fabrics. We stayed in room 20 which we just loved. The housekeeping was impeccable with day and evening service. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious. We also enjoyed Afternoon Tea. We had all three dinners at “La Salle à Manger” which we thoroughly enjoyed. I think my husband would have been open to trying other places but I never wanted to leave the hotel. Next time I would love to try the Michelin starred “Le Restaurant” which wasn’t open the days we stayed there and the La “Table Haute”. I would also love to take one of the cooking courses that La Mirande offers.
The hotel arranged a pick up from the train station and we were met by Pauline who was so engaging and was amazing at navigating the tiny streets. The hotel also arranged for Pauline to take us to Arles, Nîmes and the Pont de Gard-a great excursion. The first person who we met at the hotel was Anthony Trotin who was so personable, professional and helpful. We also met another Anthony, Margot, Guillaume and Célia. I am sorry I can’t remember everyone’s name but everyone we encountered at La Mirande was accommodating, gracious and professional. It was a dream to be able to stay at La Mirande and we will definitely be back!

We have been at La Mirande for lunch a couple of years ago and always wanted to come back. The way to the hotel through the very narrow streets of Avignon was nightmarish. On my phone I could not open the document the hotel had sent me. Best done before you go and printed out be on the safe side. The hotel itself was as beautiful as we remembered it. Had a lovely room with high ceilings facing the Palais du Pape. Because the gourmet restaurant is closed several days of the week we ate at the bistro in the hotel. Very good. Also the breafkast in the morning. Such a beautiful room too with a view to the lovely garden. We decided to eat lunch the other day before we left because the weather was good and therefore we could enjoy the garden too. When we left, the concierge showed us on the map how to leave the town. Did it work? No. He must have forgotten, that on Wednesdays there is a market where we would have come through. We were not too amused. But we would come back.

We were in France for our wedding anniversary and as part of our trip we stayed 3 nights in Avignon at La Mirande. What a hotel. It is right next to the Papal palace and it is no wonder that they enjoy a 5 star rating and the best hotel status in Avignon.

The owners have done so much to preserve meticulously the history of the hotel and the traditions of what great hotels use to be. Each room has its own unique taste and design. The owners personally decorate the hotel with unique antiques.

The staff is incredible. Very friendly and courteous. A special callout to Lucas who works at the front desk. He was wonderful and most helpful with all of our inquiries.

While the property has several acclaimed restaurants we opted for others at dinner time, mostly recommended by the hotel.

Breakfast was amazing in the restaurant as was the service.

Highly recommend La Mirande.

Look for the one that says Avignon TGV, that's where the high speed train stops. The other station may be a bit closer to town, but the trains will be the regular slow ones. Enjoy your trip and the lovely hotel!
