Stayed here for 5 nights whilst visiting the area so had plenty of opportunity to assess its merits and overall I would give it a four out of five. Initially I was a bit doubtful as it seemed rather soulless but its one of those hotels that grows on you the longer you stay and we really enjoyed our time there.
It's fairly small for a Best Western and situated in a commercial/industrial area to the south of Avignon and beyond what most people would consider to be a walkable distance so you need a car or you can make use of the local bus service that stops close to the hotel.
Our room was clean and comfortable and had a small balcony overlooking the pool and garden which was all well-kept and pleasant to use. We also ate in the restaurant on 3 evenings and enjoyed the food but the menu is very limited with only four starter and main course options so not perfect for everyone.
The big plus for the hotel was the quality of its staff who all seemed to be bi-lingual, enthusiastic and engaging, particularly Fabiola who was wonderful.
If I was visiting the Avignon area again I would happily book BW Le Lavarin.

This is our first time with Best Western. High recommended place. All staff were so friendly and approachable that made our stay very enjoyable and comfortable. 3-nights stay in the hotel, room was kept clean throughout. Bed was comfortable too.

Very good hotel surrounded by beautiful and well maintained gardens, includes 2 pools, one heated, and I should must say very clean.
The rooms are spacious, clean and makes you feels like home, at Best Western standard.
The hotel serves very delicious breakfast and we have experienced Fabulous service.
I would be grateful to mention Novi who was very professional, kind and representative.

My normal experience with Best Westerns generally fall into the acceptable, nothing to rave about and sometimes below that category but the Hotel du Lavarin was a real exception . I booked it primarily because it was close to the TGV station in Avignon. We were arriving late and I didn't want to find my way to an in the center of town hotel. It was only for one night but I could have easily stayed for more. It appears to be newly decorated, the grounds are quiet and charming, the complimentary breakfast was wonderful, and varied. And the price was reasonable. We arrived as the restaurant closed and the reception was kind enough to set us a table and prepared a lovely salad, just the perfect thing for a long travel day. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet away from the hustle place to stay.

Very frustrated hotel director: my son made some dust marks on a wall in the garden To calm the director which was very agressive, I propose to make a declaration to my insurance. But in the evenening of the 15/8, director blocked our rooms to blackmail me and to force me to give my credit card. He claimed more than 1600€. He had no trust in other country's insurance companies and even after obtaining several guarantees from my wellknown insurance company, he kept on asking documents to delay our departure (more than 3 hours) without speeking of the stress from the night before. Certainly not recommended for traveling with childeren.

Response from PAULANDLAURA, Propriétaire at Best Western Plus Le Lavarin

I read your comment and regret this situation. However, you booked 2 double bedrooms and you check in, you were 8, 3 adults and 5 children 10 to 17 years. We have executive rooms, larger and therefore more suitable to your needs. During your stay, your kids left partially unsupervised did not find anything to do better than playing climbing the wall of the property which is very dangerous. When we perceive then it was too late, the wall was significantly degraded. Our hotel is not a holiday club You admitted the facts verbally but refused to assume the responsibility stating the claim with your insurance company. Unfortunately, we had to call the police. Finally you made a claim to your insurance liability stretchers and acknowledge in writing. It is only after you have completed this step that the police let you leaving in Belgium. . I am sorry for this situation.

The hotel managers were extremely cheerful, friendly & helpful. The hotel lobby, resturant and rooms were in clean and decorated in a very fresh and modern style. We really enjoyed our time there.

The hotel was a bit far from the main city center, but the hotel did offer rental bicycles and had a secure car park. Don't try to walk to the city center as it is a bit far on foot. Instead, use thier taxi pick up service, bike or rental car. Also, there is no nearby supermarkets to the hotel, so when you go into town pick up any essential or grocaries you may need.

For food, generally in France they don't have much for breakfast and this hotel is not different. Also, the meal selection in the hotel is a bit pricey... so while your travelling there its better to have your meal in the town center as there is a much bigger selection of menus.

We really enjoyed our stay at Best Western Hôtel du Lavarin. The location maybe a little too far out from the old city, but was ideal for us as we wanted to be near the TGV station (about 10 min drive away). We walked into the old city each day, which was an easy 25 minute walk. There are no eating places nearby but the food offered at the hotel was good value. We also ate in the old city.
The rooms were a very good size and the property has free car parking, a very nice pool area and the restaurant has a nice feel to it, overlooking the pool area.

The real stand out for us was the delightful, friendly and efficient staff. They were amongst the best we came across in our month stay in France.

We were booked into this hotel by our travel agent- and when we arrived seriously considered turning around and booking into somewhere else. We stayed at a number of Best Western sites in France and many were cute little hotels in the centre of old towns- but this is not one of those I am afraid. It is more like a 2 storey motel. It is not a great distance from the centre of town- (and there is a bus stop just out front) but if, like us you have limited time and don't want to waste it waiting for buses etc- you can do lots better than this place for location when coming to Avignon as a tourist. To add to the issues with location, it's really not a very good hotel- 2 star maybe. The room we were first given had a barking dog next door and twin beds -not the double we had booked. The staff seemed to have no idea what had been booked, but were pleasant and gave us another room with a double bed without argument. The new room was on the first floor and we had to drag quite a bit of luggage up two flights of stairs as there was no lift.
The room itself looked out onto a balcony/patio - but the french window wouldnt lock properly so we availed ourselves of the room safe. The whole place had a rather run-down air- apart from the reception and dining areas which looked quite smart and modern. The breakfast was fine but not well managed. There were not enough tables for all guests and the staff studiously ignored an altercation where one couple sat at a table and went to get their breakfasts only to have their table pinched by someone else when they weren't looking! Surely they could do better than this! On the positive side, there was a nice pool area outside- and at night the car park is locked securely. Given the part of town this hotel is located in I would say that would be an absolute necessity!

At first sight the hotel seemed really lovely. However we soon discovered that the air conditioning did not work properly, we were plagued by midges when we sat in the restaurant to eat in the evening and we strongly suspec,t judging by the mysterious bite marks which appeared each morning, that there were bed bugs in the room!!
