The Mercure Palais Des Papes is the perfect
central location to enjoy Avignon and surrounding areas. The manager, Salem, provides extraordinary service and hospitality. He even helps with individual special needs and requests. When I needed a USB key, he graciously cleared one of his own and gave it to me. Because of Salem, I was able to preserve the photos of this bucket list trip to Provence.

He also advised me on restaurants, transportation, sites to visit, and train/ airport connections.

I highly recommend Mercure Palais des Papes.

We stayed in Room 201 with a group of 14 wine enthusiasts and used the hotel as a base to explore the Southern Rhone.
Although not the greatest Mercure we have ever stayed in the rooms are mostly quite small but very functional and clean. We had no view to speak of and as it was November the air conditioning is switched off so we had to leave the window open most of the time.
The key to this hotel is its fantastic position albeit it is not the easiest place to get to if you are travelling in a small coach. It is possible to get a taxi from the coach drop off point to the hotel but these can be expensive and it is better to take the ten minute walk.
The staff were all extremely friendly and spoke very good English and breakfast was simple but adequate.
If we are visiting Avignon again we would certainly use this hotel.

We had a very nice room on the 6th floor with an expansive balcony. Overall we had a great stay with great views and service. Our only thought was that we would have liked the bits and bobs replenished in our room on a more regular basis. We ended up stocking up from the dining area on the ground floor. Location is very good at the top end of the town with quick access to all attractions.

The hotel is in a great situation for the local attractions. It is fairly clean generally. Some things could do with attention but generally ok. The room was a simple double, adequate with water in the fridge, tea and coffee on the side. The shower room was in need of some attention. There was no shower gel in the shower container and when i asked, they told me to go down and get some from reception. Not great as id just got in the shower! The television didn’t work but was told to unplug it and then replug it. It worked!
My overall opinion was that it was expensive for what it was, lacked warmth. It’s one true saving grace was the receptionist Yoann. Was a nice chap, so friendly.
If you use the Palais de papes car park the hotel validate your ticket so you get 20% off.

Stayed here for two nights and found it to be a great location - two minutes from the Papal Palace and Pont d’Avignon and then a few minutes walk into the centre of Avignon where there are loads of nice bars and restaurants. We used the parking just by the hotel where they give you a discounted rate - worth noting they’re are a few stairs to navigate on your way to the hotel if you have luggage. Our room was small but nice and clean. There’s a decent breakfast if you’ve opted for it.

Salem and Mary welcomed us into the hotel with bright smiles. They were very accommodating to us and Salem spoke fluent English which put at ease after our day full of travel. They got us into our rooms quickly and they were amazingly clean. The beds our comfortable and have more than enough space for 2 people. The breakfast was fantastic and works for people who wake up early or late in the day. The service at the front desk was more than I could ask for, there was always someone willing to help. Overall the hotel is clean and the service is spectacular. It made my families trip to France less stressful for us. We are thankful to the people who helped us enjoy our trip!

We are over the moon happy with the Mercure. I am escorting 20 guests this week. When we arrrived by coach from Sete, the hotel manager Salem, met us at the bus drop of area of the city and personally assisted with the porterage. We were met with a warm greetings and excellent guidance. Working thr desk was Stephanie and happily handed all of our room keys (thank you!) Ira and Yoann, thank you for your dinner and site seeing suggestions. We've seen a lot and ate very well! All my clients love the hotel. Special thanks to the woman and young man in the kitchen who work so hard providing an excellent breakfast and to our housekeeper on floor 3 that is always wearing a smile! We cant wait to come back to this beautiful place and excellent hotel! With thanks, Lisa and Fitzgerald Travel

I have stayed in many of the groups hotels and I found the reception welcome and room excellent.
However , my experience at breakfast was the worst I have ever experienced , particularly with the
covid 19 pandemic. There wasn't one table that had been cleaned and I eventually had to sit at a table which was dirty and use a small corner of it. There was one youing man on duty and he was busy trying to fix the juice dispenser which was jammed and also trying to replace empty trays with food. . He was not to blame as he was unable to do much more. However , in my opinion , there should have been someone to help him .If a health inspector have visited, he would have been shocked . Not the standard I have come to expect in the Accor Group

Do not be greedy, take the best room #610 with its own rooftop open terrace and direct view on Place du Papes and Palais des Papes - main landmark of Avignon. The room is pretty spacious, with free minibar and Provence wine samples. No need to say that all the points of interest are within walking distance. Good breakfast and friendly staff is the cherry on top.

I almost booked another hotel after reading some recent negative reviews, but so glad I didn't. The hotel was perfectly situated and well maintained with helpful staff. Room was sparkling clean, quiet, and had strong a/c (perfect during the recent heat wave!). Steps from Palais des Papes, easy stroll to main drag for restaurants and shopping, and 10 minute walk to Les Halles. Uber drivers had no problem locating the parking area for drop off and pick up. Great base for Avignon and would highly recommend.

Is there parking at the hotel
Answer from kyle10014
New York City, New York2,034 contributions223 helpful votes
No. But parking is available in a public garage. The entrance is just a short distance from the hotel. You drop off your luggage (its a little tricky getting to the hotel, but consider it an adventure--it isn't impossible--you may have to circle around once after you figure out how the one way streets all work). Then you drive into the garage. The prime location of the hotel is worth the slight parking inconvenience. It really isn't a big deal though. When departing the hotel we didn't even bother driving back to the hotel. Garage was close enough we just wheeled our bags to the car.

.Do you have parking at the hotel and is it secure
Answer from AmandineRobert
Avignon, France
Hello ! We don't have parking at the hotel but we work with the underground car park named Parking Palais des Papes which is 1 minute walking from the hotel! To find it: you drive along the city walls till the famous Avignon bridge (Pont St Bénezet on signs), then you will have the entrance of the underground car park. Take the ticket at the barrier and go straight to level P1 which is the nearest pedestian exit from the hotel! You will have to validate your ticket at the hotel in order to get 20% discount! Kind regards and see you soon at the hotel! Yoann Receptionnist
