The Hotel Spa Le Calendal exceeded our expectations - this is a boutique hotel that truly does everything right. We were visiting for my wife's birthday and everyone who worked in the building made us feel special. The room had an excellent view of the Roman theatre across the street, and the entire room was spotless.

This is a hotel that is obviously very well managed - there are so many "small extras" like free refillable water, access to the fantastic little spa, reasonable prices for breakfast whether at the buffet or little eatery by the street...every aspect of the customer experience has been thought through and they execute everything beautifully. The staff is so friendly and helpful - we didn't meet a single person working there who didn't make us feel valued. We will be back!

Character rich boutique hotel housed in a historic building just step from the Roman Amphitheatre. Fine restaurants literally radiate forth in every direction. A genuinely welcoming and engaging staff make for an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Our room was in the courtyard with the entrance artfully veiled from public view with a selection of plantings. The interior furnishings were simple but the space was clean with everything in good working order. The kitchen served up a tasty selection of breakfast- brunch items. Order from the counter, or choose the expansive buffet menu in the dining area. Note that parking is offsite so plan accordingly if that presents a challenge.

We stayed here 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Cecile and her husband (the owners) are very friendly and helpful, as are the entire staff. The beautiful garden and courtyard in back is a cool oasis from the busy pedestrian street in front. Breakfast was better than most places in France.

Our room was of average size and the bathroom was small and oddly arranged with a step up into it and the tub/shower. Bed was comfortable. Best part was the narrow balcony with an amazing view of the Roman arena. Air con was necessary during our hot stay.

The place is difficult to get to on arrival; we parked in the central garage (discounted with stay at hotel), but the elevator was out of service and we had to carry our bags up a bunch of stairs. It’s also quite uphill outside the garage to the hotel. We recommend dropping your bags at the car barrier 2 short blocks from the hotel and then parking your car in the garage. That’s how we left the hotel and it was far easier.

We recommend staying here; the nearby restaurants are great (hotel staff will reserve).

This was a trip focused on an oil painting workshop with a few people I knew and a few more that were strangers. The hotel was delightful. The location was at the top of a hill in the center of Arles and faced the Roman Colosseum which was impressive by day and a lighted wonder at night. One could walk to many areas of the city in a few minutes. The city itself, as well as this hotel, was very clean and safe. The hotel has an outdoor cafe which serves excellent light fare much of the day and night. The rooms seemed to have been recently redone and every one was different but and decorated with some relevance to the history of Arles. My room had a balcony with French doors that looked out upon a large and courtyard/garden/restaurant with many tables nestled into discreet areas of the garden . Charming. Breakfasts were abundant with heaps of fresh fruit, eggs, cheeses, breads and pastries, cereals. The first time I saw it I was amazed at the food, beautifully arranged, and the various clever small gadgets and appliances for cooking eggs, juicing, toasting. It was a foodie delight. Finally, the staff at all levels was knowledgeable, very friendly and accommodating at the reception, restaurant, spa, and at any time of day or night. This was one of the best hotel experiences ever. The city was a hidden jewel on many levels - history, art, shopping, food, pleasant, helpful people. Actually the entire area of Provence was quite wonderful.

My husband and I spent a wonderful night at Le Calendal. Everyone was very kind and helpful and the hotel is clean, modern and stylish. Each room is unique, showcasing local art. We had a lovely room with a balcony with table and chairs and a view of the Roman theater and the town. It was quiet overnight and we slept well. The bed was very comfortable, there’s a good-sized closet, small safe, and the bathroom, while compact, has a big sink, a strong shower and everything you need, including thoughtful amenities such as a good hairdryer, makeup mirror and full length mirror. The location is ideal. Arles is a charming town and you can walk to the major attractions and to local bars, restaurants, shops and art galleries. The hotel operates a nice cafe streetside as well as offering a peaceful garden out back. Breakfast was very nice. I booked time in their complimentary spa, which was a great way to relax after a day of sightseeing. I just wish I’d also booked a massage. We highly recommend a stay here.

Location can't be beat, within feet of the ancient Roman Arles Arena and Theater. Bar in the front, with lovely sidewalk tables. Leafy garden in the back with bar service as well. Lovely walk all around the ancient city. Our room had a large window and terrace with two lounge chairs and a table - a lovely addition to the room. The room itself was small, but the bed was comfortable and there was a night stand and reading lamps on both sides of the bed. The bathroom was large, with plenty of counter space. Breakfast was very good, with eggs for soft- or hard-boiling, local cheeses and yogurts, local honey, dried fruit, cereals, meats and plenty of baguettes and breads. A coffee machine turned out good espressos.

This nicely modernized hotel has an ideal location, between the Roman arena and amphitheater, so touring the old city is easy. The staff are welcoming and helpful and offered good recommendations for dinner. Breakfast in the private garden is lovely and we appreciated the light fare at the hotel counter.

Before getting to the hotel, the town of Arles is small and sleepy. It is rough around the edges (dirt, graffiti – but felt safe) but does have some interesting sites; Roman arena and theatre, some quaint streets, somewhat of a trail of Vincent Van Gough (many of the places are as he would have seen them). Within an hour’s drive of Avignon, 30 minutes to Nimes.

The hotel is located right next to the Roman arena (I mean close!) and next to the Roman theatre. Everything is close and walkable from the hotel. We had a car and to get to the hotel requires a drive to the end of the street where there is an electronic post the hotel can remotely lower to allow you to drive to the front of the hotel. They need you to be quick in unloading passengers and luggage as it is a narrow street. They have an arrangement with a multistory covered parking structure two blocks away– you pay at the hotel, and they provide you with a card to get out of the lot. Lot looks dirty but we had no problems and there were lots of nice cars parked inside.
Loved the hotel. Does not look like much from the outside but it is clean, modern, most of the staff are fantastic. Kind of artsy with artwork all around including the rooms. The bathroom was very good. The air conditioner worked very well. Beds were very comfortable. Be aware there are mosquitoes present that had a real feast with us. Bring repellant and keep windows closed. Provence is warm/hot so the idea of having breakfast outside was not appealing but they have a courtyard that is nice and somehow stays cool. Our room was clean, modern, and very spacious. We had the only balcony overlooking the arena – I love ancient history, so this was great! There is a spa in the hotel, but we did not use it. The breakfast buffet was particularly good, as was the service. We had dinner a couple of nights. Be aware that dinner will consist of whatever they have left over but we were fine with that. There is a nice pizza café next door, but I felt a bit ripped off when the bill came in US dollars despite our asking that it be in Euros (see Rick Steve’s book to understand why).

We chose this hotel based on Rick Steve's recommendation and loved it. It's right in the heart of the old city of Arles. Our room was spotless, the staff were friendly, and their breakfast buffet spread was a treat. It's right next to the Roman era Colloseum. We enjoyed drinks on their patio that faces the Plaza. Parking is easy. There is a city parking garage about 10 minutes walk away and you get a discounted rate from the hotel with in-out privileges when going out to sight see.

We had a great stay at the Calendal, which is perfectly located right next to the Arena and within walking discuss of tons of great restaurants and adorable shops.

The room, bed, pillows, etc. were all comfortable.

We LOVED the sauna, which is small but perfect for an hour of relaxation (and has a view of the arena). As they limit access to three rooms per hour, the sauna is quiet and private.

The hotel has a bar/restaurant with seating in a private, shaded garden or on the sunny terrace – great for soaking up the last rays of sun with a very reasonably priced glass of wine. There's also a rooftop bar, which was closed during our stay in May.

Huge thanks to the fabulous staff who go out of their way to make your experience a delight!

We stayed there last spring and it was excellent in all respect. Nice rooms with inter courtyard, service tres bien, location could not be better. If I was staying in Arles that is where I would. We have stayed in other hotels in Arles that were very nice, but Hotel le Calendal is our favorite. Also restaurant La Pergula just a few steps from the Hotel is excellent.
