Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

This is an average hotel, typical of the 3 star variety. Its plus points were cleanliness, and the room was quite spacious. There was a separate toilet to the bathroom, and our room included a bath and shower. If you want to be in the centre of Cognac, they don't come much more central! The hotel is a hop skip and jump from the central 'Place Francois 1er', with its bars and a number of varied restaurants dotted nearby. If you like good food in a relaxed atmosphere, try the Coq D'or on the square itself (1 minute walk) - recommended, but don't be in a hurry :-)
Other useful things about the hotel are:
free car park next door
'mini-train' to the Cognac distilleries departs from the street
Small supermarket is directly opposite with good stock.
The rail station is walkable in about 10 mins, but luggage makes this harder of course...

If a clean basic room is all you want, well located, and cheap, this is the one for you.

About 200 feet from the center of Cognac is this nice hotel were i stayed 3 night. The hotel is a nice place were every thing as it should be. Rooms clean and nice, good breakfast, a little bar witch is open more or less 24 hours. internet and a lot of help if you want to look closer to the Cognac houses. I can tell that the Martell house is about 150 feet from the hotel and a great place to visit.

A 2 night stay,
Facilities,
Parking extra,
Breakfast expensive and plastic, cheap yoghurt, frozen mini croissants etc
WiFi only allows one device at a time ...
We came back from a restaurant at 10:30 to find the public area closed, no bar, no reception staff.

The Room
Too hot
water temperature was scalding
the shower was a simple mixer that fluctuated from freezing to scalding
The toilet/WC would not flush waste away
The Toilet paper dispenser was not properly set up, we used our travelling spare after lugging it around for four years
There was a light on the TV that could not be turned off
The Quilt was too heavy
and the ultimate sin ... tucked in!

The hotel is well situated very close to the centre of Cognac. The bedroom and bathroom were reasonably spacious and comfortable with a fantastic shower and although we had a problem with the bathroom heating the receptionist was very helpful and provided us with a radiator for the night. The private parking is excellent. The staff were charming and we will definitely return on our next visit to Cognac.

I spent one night at the Valois while on business in Cognac. The reception staff is friendly, and check in was fast. The lobby is small, and includes a bar and the breakfast room. There are a lot of displays of all the local cognac brands in the lobby. The room was clean, and comfortable, with two single beds joined into a large king bed. There is a TV in the room with only the "basic" channels (including CNN), and the bathroom is well sized, and included a bathtub with a shower. I slept very well, and I could hear no noise.

The breakfast had a limited selection, with ham and cheese and baguettes, croissants, and some other stuff, and was charged at a "decent" 7,80 Euro / person.

I paid 52 Euro for the standard room, which is a good rate, though this was arranged by the people I was visiting, so I am not sure its a publicly available rate. In any case, the most I would pay for the room would be 100 Euro.

Basic hotel ok for one night. Our room small and dated. Secure parking is 6 euros. We found the hotel cheaper on booking.com so they matched the price. Small details lacking - only 1 teacup, no milk, but overall adequate.

I stayed here for a week on business and was very disappointed. I, along with my colleagues, were given rooms across the street. Yes, you read that correctly. The main hotel is as pictured however they own a tiny converted apartment building directly across the street. It has 3 floors, with only 3 rooms on each floor. We were told they were booked solid and that all rooms were identical. This is far from the truth. The rooms are nothing like the rooms in the main building. The rooms are very small and any and all sounds travel; this includes the TV, the flushing toilet, the running shower, a group outside on the street, any of the doors in the entire building slamming shut reverberates throughout, etc. Personally, I had no working air conditioning nor heat. There was a space heater provided but it was not adequate. Also, my hair dryer was non-functioning. An electric coffee/tea kettle was provided however it had so much hard water scale, I was unable to use it. There is no deadbolt, so the key must be used to unlock to enter as well as to lock once inside. I see this as a fire hazard. On the third night, my blanket was removed and never returned. A colleague also had their duvet comforter removed and never returned. It was very inconvenient being across the street especially when having to borrow the iron. Take note: no room has an iron in it, it must be borrowed from the front desk. The sparse breakfast, at 10 Euro a day, was not a good value as no hot food was provided.

We stayed for 3 nights and had 20 people in our group. They treated us great. The location was good, about 1 block from the main town square. Across the street from a grocery store. Average breakfast in the morning. The beds were a little hard, but not horrible. The bar is next to the front desk and the same person runs both. We had a great time and they tried to help us anyway they could. I would definitely stay there again if I end up in Cognac.
