Travellers' Choice
The hotel, ideally located in the historic center of Rouen, close to the place du Vieux- Marché, the literary hotel, Gustave Flaubert, pays tribute to the writer in the city where he was born and where he spent the major part of his life. Modernity and comfort, punctuated by a few literary notes, provide the guests the time to dream or read. Just 10 minutes from the cathedral Notre Dame of Rouen, the Hotel Gustave Flaubert shares with us his passion for the author of Madame Bovary and Salammbô.

This hotel is squeezed onto a side street of delightful Rouen, perfectly placed for walking and exploring the city. If you have a car, beware that parking is tricky -- it is free but you must arrange with hotel beforehand and then, at the pedestrian-only gate, call for a code to allow you to drive to the hotel. Rouen is fabulous tho, with lots of good shopping, interesting restaurants and history everywhere you look. It is a great city for a 1-3 stopover. The hotel is very nice with spacious enough rooms, modern bathrooms and an excellent buffet breakfast that costs extra but is worth it. Hotel staff were extremely helpful and responsive to our needs.

What a great bed and breakfast plus that something extra, staff where kind and soothing to me I had taken over one hour to find the way in. Felt daunted by the lift down to the car park but all was well. My room on second floor clean and bright, I wish I could have had a second night, the breakfast was an excellent spread, the staff where kind, good, humour if you go to Rouen wish to be in the centre this is place to be lots of places to eat close by

We stayed here 5 days in early October, and returned for one night in late October, as we picked up our rental car in Rouen. We like this hotel very much. The staff were always excellent. We very much appreciated their willingness and ability to speak English. We had a travel nightmare that they assisted us with--namely, our luggage not arriving with us in Paris, so they helped us track it and get delivery. This is above and beyond the "call of duty". We could not have done it because of our lack of French. Our room was #502 both times, with a view over the rooftops toward the large cathedral and a small balcony. We loved the K-cup coffeemaker in the room. Everything functioned well in the room--i.e., the bathroom, lights, etc. Breakfasts were very good--with high quality foods and a wide selection. They had a large coffee machine in the breakfast area, so you could have coffee when you chose. We did not park in the hotel's parking lot (which uses an elevator), but chose to park at a nearby city parking lot. It just had easier access for us. The location of the hotel is fairly easy to get to upon arrival. Its location at the edge of the historic city is great. Many restaurants and shops nearby. The main road toward the cathedral is full of shopping, grocery stores, patiserries, etc. Overall, this is an excellent accommodation choice.

Dear Madam, Thank you very much for sharing your experience and your recommendation. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at our Literary Hotel. Your compliments about the personnel mean a lot to me. We always do our best to make your experience as pleasant as possible, which is why it was natural for us to help you with your luggage. This 5-day stay was an opportunity to discover the richness of Rouen and the work of Gustave Flaubert, the emblematic writer who was born and evolved in the city. I hope that you have brought the bedside book offered to our guests, and that it will remain a memory of this successful Norman stay.
