La ferme de Mares is a Logis de France and a Relais du Silence, listed in the 2014 Michelin Guide. The buildings and grounds are an old Norman Farm, with a large courtyard used for secure parking, and extensive gardens. When we arrived vegetables were being collected from the kitchen garden. We were greeted at reception by the English owner... More

We recently were on a bike trip of Normany and Brittany. The tour booked our group in the Ferm des Mares for two nights. It became our most favorite hotel and restaurant of our trip -- including our stay in Paris. MIchael Allen and his wife, Sonia Picquenot are gracious hosts. They have lovingly rebuilt and modernized an ancient farmhouse... More

We were here in 2011, very satisfied about everything, and because we wanted to see more of Normandy decided to make this hotel our base for 5 days. Again we had a room on the top floor (2 flights of stairs, no elevator), very quiet except for the bell in the nearby church that reminded us every 15 minutes about... More

We stayed one night during a group cycling holiday in Normandy, the location & owner made for an excellent stay. We stayed for dinner & breakfast which were excellent. The only down side was that the water pressure could have been better.

Food was good Room would have been fine if we had had enough water pressure to take a shower. Appears to be a work in progress not quite ready for prime time. We were with a bicycle group that filled up the property and apparently that was part of the problem We didn't get a good shower til we got... More

We very much enjoyed our large comfortable room in this quiet hotel near the coast. Very warm welcome by all the staff and we were particularly impressed by the cuisine at dinner. Excellent value for money.

Nice place to stay, but don't count on a decent shower! Was on a bicycling holiday, dinner left me starving! Chef announced we would have Cornish game hen and I was excited. But got only two small slices of poultry! Second dinner was a tiny fish filet. Only vegetable I remember was a few bites of potato! Breakfast buffet fruits... More

This is a very relaxing and pleasant hotel, set overlooking a large attractive courtyard the rooms are pleasantly furnished, with new but traditional looking furniture, the dining is excellent in this establishment, with a set of cleanly, uncluttered unique appeal, using local ingredients. The service in the restaurant is unfussy, the atmosphere is relaxed, and a great selection of wines... More

We stayed here in October as part of a bike trip to Normandy Brittany. The couple who own it are responsible for what you see. The rooms are huge with bathrooms to match. It was like coming in at the end of a House Hunters France episode after the rehab was done. They went with modern / minimalist (which we... More

Very nice surroundings, and the food was of good quality, but the service was too slow and portion sizes a bit too nouveau.. We waited over an hour for our starters, and having spoken to a number of people who have also been, service seems to be a recurring problem. My other niggle, was I left feeling hungry, and that...
