My husband booked us two nights here as a way to end our honeymoon after a road trip through France. And I am so glad he did! This hotel is breathtaking! It even smells so great - woody and fresh. The staff at the reception, restaurant and room cleaning are very friendly and very helpful. Our room was simply stunning, huge and very comfy... also very French!. The pool and sauna/spa was also very nice and much needed. The crowd is usually older and quieter, which was ideal; no kids running around, no loud teens. The garden where we had breakfast was the perfect start to the day. The restaurant is delicious and the overall furniture and decor of the place is very elegant. This was definitely one of my favorite hotels I have ever stayed at and I can't wait to go back again. It's safe to say we were very sad to leave...

What a wonderful place! Right in the heart of the town. Quiet, cosy, spacious. Every little piece of furniture, the towels, the bed etc. is selected with care and taste. The staff is very friendly and helpful. And they do speak at least 1 foreign language which is something very unusual in France.
The dinner in the restaurant was excellent and worth a try.

This is our third stay at this lovely hotel. Comfortable, great service beautiful surroundings, we love it here. The parking was expensive but worth it so would recommend doing that. A great base for exploring* the beautiful citadel of Aigues Mortes and the surrounding area. We will be back.

We have lived in Spain for many years and spend our Christmas holidays abroad. We usually drive home through France and stay in various cities (Avignon, Aix, Carcassonne, Valence); this year we chose Aigues-Morte. What a great city!

And La Villa Mazarin was an excellent hotel for us (we brought our dog). Very old, beautifully renovated and centrally located. We did not use the excellent spa, but will return for a longer stay. Incredible breakfast and the bar is well stocked! The staff (Michael and David) made us feel very welcome!

Highly recommend and we will be back.

Super small boutique hotel within the ancient walled city of Aiguës-Mortes. Lovely courtyard where you can have breakfast overlooking the fish pond and under the shadow of the trees. Rooms are spacious and stylish and you can park making day trips easy.

This is a rare and beautiful hotel, in an old convent, with a peaceful immaculately tended garden, an excellent swimming pool and gym complex, and large , very well-appointed bedrooms, all spotlessly clean and tidy.

We first stayed here in 2003, when it was L'Orangerie, and were delighted to find (at last !) an exclusively gay hotel that offered real luxury, and in such elegant surroundings. The standards of service were impeccable, and the atmosphere was convivial and smart, and we stayed twice as many nights as we had planned.

On visiting again in 2006, the hotel was now re-named Villa Mazarin, and "gay-friendly". Little else had changed, and we had no complaints.

This July, our third visit, saw a few changes, in that children were now admitted, and the sun terraces were no longer clothing-optional. Although most of the staff were still there and doing an excellent job, we detected a distinct frostiness from the Director (we are two gay civil-partnered couples.)

We understand there are plans to complete 12 studios along the fourth side of the cloistered garden in November 2007, which will effectively remove any privacy from the sun-terrace, and put excess demand in the beautiful, but small swimming pool.

All in all, a great shame to see what was once my favourite hotel in France (or anywhere else for that matter) gradually being managed down into the realms of the ordinary, and with more than a touch of homophobia in the process.

Ariving after a 10 hour drive from Epernay to be told that Garden room booked in January was occupied and only room available overlooked the road and would be to noisey for my wife who had been ill to sleep were forced to move on with a 2 hour journey to another hotel we had stayed in before. The Hotel should have told us of problems before arrival and been honest about the true cause of problem on arrival

Hotel is beautiful in a great location inside the walls of Aigues Mortes, does have parking underground ( you must reserve and costs extra) do not park underground if you have a large car. The room we reserved was a prestige room, very large, beautiful huge bathroom, however the room faces the gardens with a common corridor, where other guests walk by to get to their room, so in order to have privacy you must pull the blackout curtains shut. This puts the room in complete darkness and the lights are not bright as all the lampshades are dark. This was not the worst part of our stay. The day we arrived i( in the late afternoon)was 38 degrees, upon wanting to shower we discovered there was NO water as they were doing maintenance repairs. This they did not inform us upon check in. Nor did they leave a note in our room. Water came back on at 9 pm, but only cold.We ended up taking cold showers. We also received no compensation for example, reimbursement for parking (15 euros)or breakfast( which was 18 euros). I would not recommend staying here as it is run with minimal staff and in addition to the water fiasco, the elevator was also not working.

Over the years my husband and I have "refined" our holiday to hotels that we have grown to love. We no longer use them if we get bored or find fault or just want something better. To say, therefore we have been coming to Villa Mazarin for years speaks volumes.

It continues to be a complete haven of peace and tranquillity and has everything one could wish for in terms of amenities and comfort. Having read a previous review about overbearing and over-solicitous staff I cannot imagine what they are talking about! The staff here have always been friendly, helpful and discreet. We have been to hotels previously where you have been left to your own devices to discover the amenities and that makes me feel unloved and unwanted.

So I hope Villa Mazarin carries on doing what it does best...giving their guests an extremely pleasant, restful and untroubled stay.

Lovely place with a lot of potential, however badly managed with uninterested staff to attend you if they have time.
Clear lack of staff, not freindly and looking at their watch to go home. The only one whom has stood up during my stay, was the night personel, who has bene very accommodating and helpful.
When I requested extra shower gel, the maid told me that I had already consummed my quota, as teh management was limiting the amenities due to their high cost!
Breakfast cost 18 euros, please refrain from paying such a price on arrival, it is not worth it and very disapointing. Very basic continental breakfast with a ball of scrambled eggs which doesn't look appealing.

Be very careful with parking as we got a ticket as you are within a walled city so bite the bullet and pay the hotels high prices fo parking.
