I loved my experience here. As part of a professional trip, I arrived at 5:30 p.m. and was very well received, the senior suite was great! The person showed me around the suite and was very cheerful. The next morning I went to reception to get breakfast. Another person, just as smiling and friendly, informed me. The suite is comfortable and quiet. I recommend +++

Everything was perfect Good welcome. Superb room I don't get the 5th star because the VMC in room no. 3 is much too noisy. Breakfast served in the room. GOOD. Very pleasant little courtyard. We had a kitchen with a BZ sofa in it and a bedroom with a King Size bed plus a shower room with WC. I ended my night on the sofa because the VMC was too noisy.

I chose Hotel de la Mare as I was spending New Year in Paris and was concerned about eating options, so I chose a hotel with a kitchenette and honestly, I would return again in a heartbeat. Having said that, I needn't have worried as lots of places were open. I stayed in Suite No 2. it is situated in a little courtyard and was pin drop silent.
Pro's: Lovely, friendly staff who were very helpful, warm cosy room which was very clean and modern, TV, free wifi, Hairdryer. Soap, kitchenette, hot plate, microwave, coffee maker, fresh fruit, soft drinks and water in the fridge, utensils, crockery, safe, somewhere to hang your clothes, comfy bed but the big plus for me was the free breakfast that was left in a little bag outside the room. Inside the bag was a small baguette, croissant, two mini sweet rolls, butter and jam. Reading some of the other reviews, I was surprised that someone dared to grumble about the quality of the FREE fruit and another complaining that they would have preferred the breakfast to arrive earlier !!! It's FREE. It's not included in the price of your very cheap room and if you think it is, please research the prices of rooms in the area for proof. They do not advertise as a B&B and many high class hotels would not offer it either. Be grateful my fellow travellers. To receive such high quality of service in a cosmopolitan city like Paris is rare, take it from me. I know this city well.
The area has lovely parks - Belleville, Buttes and Pere Lachaise cemetery.
Con's: I'm honestly struggling here. I have visited Paris twice a year for over 20 years and so I know the city inside out. The area is residential so it does not have the atmosphere of Marais, St Germain or Montmatre. The area would suit maybe a more bohemian type of traveller as opposed to someone desperate to experience the romanticism of Paris conjured up in so many guidebooks. The area has lots of eating places along Rue Sorbier and a short walk to Gambetta gives you even more options. A short walk in the other direction takes you to Belleville where there is a large immigrant community with lots of yummy ethnic restaurants (Vietnamese, Chinese and North African kebabs.
A big thanks to the staff for a lively break. I will be back.

My wife and I just got back from a Europe vacation. We started with 4 nights at hotel de la mare. We flew in from Vancouver on a Fri. afternoon to terminal 3 and took a taxi to the hotel. The cost was $55E with 2 bags . the trip took aprox.1/2 hr. as traffic was good. The hotel is more like a apartment than a hotel. The rates are good but you are 45 minutes or better from the major attractions. Their is no desk clerk or staff on duty all day just the owners are their at certain times of the day. The room we had was very clean and nice great shower. It has a sink, microwave, fridge and eating utensils. It has a tea kettle but I would have like to have had a coffee pot too. The only real complaint I had was that their were no windows in the room and we found that it got very stuffy as we could not get any fresh air unless we opened the front door. The only glass in the room is from the front door. As this is not a tourist area unless you speak and understand French, information is hard to get. The owners who are very helpful but have very limited English and I have even more limited French so we found it difficult to get directions on how to get to the major tourist sites. We eventually got somebody at the metro station to help which made things much easier. We traveled by metro as I didn't have time to figure the bus system out. This is the easiest way to get to the sites by metro. When you leave the hotel turn left and walk over the foot bridge and follow the road to Menilmontant St. 1/2 block. turn right and walk down slight hill about 2 blocks and you come to a small plaza. in the center across from KFC you will see a metro station called Menilmontant, walk down the stairs and on your left are ticket machines you get your ticket if you are their for a few days scroll down the options and you can purchase 10 tickets and save few dollars. When you go through the turn styles go left to nation station. take the metro to the end which is nation station and get off and follow the green #6 sighs to the next train. get on the #6 metro towards Charles de Gaulle station. to go to the Eiffel tower get off at Bir-Hahin station it will also say Eiffel tower go out of the station and just follow the crowds about 45 min. from Menilmontant station .You also get off at this station to go to Versailles instead of going outside towards the Eiffel tower you walk down the stairs and follow the yellow RER signs and get on the train towards Versailles use the same ticket you used on the metro. another 20 min. If you want to go to the Arc de Triomphe stay on the #6 to the end, Charles de Gaulle station and when you walk out of the station you are their and you can walk down the Champ Elsees about 2KM to Louvre or their is a number of rides to take you their. and to go home you just do the reverse. I hope this will help you and make things easier for you.

Based on this hotel's reviews on TripAdvisor, we booked a room here for three nights (14-16 July).
1. We noticed that the room was dimly lit and the sheet on the beds were not white (beige colored). While that was a red flag, we thought that maybe it was a European thing. The sheets were not changed for the three days.
2. While the housekeeping was okay during the first two days, on the third night, we noticed that there was a lots of hair and other muck lying on the floor of the room and the bathroom (see the attached picture)
3. Then we started checking the sheet on our bed and we noticed some love stains on it (see attached pic) . As we did not do any funny business during our stay, we knew that those stains were there from before. Needless to say, we were thoroughly disgusted.
We are never going back here.

Response from Catherine D, Gérant at Hôtel de la Mare

Dear Guest, We have noted you were shocked by the cleanness of the room on the third and last day of your stay. We are really sorry for that. It seems you tracked a couple of your hair on the floor to demonstrate your anger (see picture). Concerning the sheet, you are right, our people should have discarded it as there were stains on it although coming back from the laundry. It happens some stains remain reluctant to professional bleaches. To your knowledge, it is easier to have white sheets look spotless than color sheets… Seeing you are used to writing very severe reviews about the places you visit helps us swallowing the worst grade we ever had in the hotel from the very beginning. With our best regards, La Direction To our future guests: if you have any claim or need any help during your stay, please come to us, we are here to help! Our wish is to make your stay enjoyable.

This hotel was perfect for us and we are looking forward to coming back! Some of the many things about this hotel that we loved are: a friendly, welcoming and helpful staff; the extremely clean room and bathroom; the reasonable price of the room; saving hundreds of Euros on food by preparing our own food from the local market in the kitchenette; a short 6-minute walk to the metro through a non-touristy, boho neighbourhood; and the free wifi. Read on for details! First of all, what sold us was the kitchenette. I have allergies to a lot of food so being able to forego restaurants and make our own food was a blessing. We also saved tonnes of cash by not eating in restaurants and instead shopping at the local markets and making picnic lunches to eat in the parks. The staff was incredible. Anything we needed, the gentleman at reception made sure we had it – more coffee? No problem! Blew a fuse? I'll fix it! Another towel? Of course! By the end of our week-long stay, the staff felt like old friends. The hotel is located in the 20th, which is NOT touristy. And that is its beauty. It is a truly Parisian neighbourhood, complete with daycares, street markets and friends meeting for a drink after work. The hotel offers a custom-made map of the neighbourhood that tells you what and where everything is – restaurants, clubs and bars (and their genres), parks and markets, vintage clothing stores and bakeries, not to mention the bike stands and bank machines. The neighbourhood felt completely safe because it was a community and while it might not have seemed as clean as some of the richer or more touristy neighbourhoods, the street art and artsy/boho lifestyle is what gives this neighbourhood its charm. We booked a room with a shared bath. The room was spotless and the bathroom was not one bathroom but more like a small gym changeroom with several stalls and showers so no waiting. Again, exceptionally clean. The room was small but the perfect size for the two of us. When we were in the room, we enjoyed the fresh breeze from the large open windows and the sounds of the neighbourhood community enjoying spring. The price was much cheaper than all of the other hotels we looked at in Paris. Others are closer to the sights and have bigger rooms perhaps but we enjoyed the feeling that we were "going home" after a long day of sightseeing. Lastly, free wi-fi. Awesome. After a long day of sightseeing and walking, we relaxed with a bottle of wine and posted updates, checked in with home and checked out info for our next day’s adventures. I would highly recommend staying at the Hotel de la Mare. We are definitely staying here the next time we are in Paris.

We stayed at Hotel de la Mare for two nights in late December 2014, and had an absolutely fantastic stay. The hotel is lovely and I cannot priase or recommend this place enough, it is simply brilliant.
Pro's: 1. Staff - welcoming, caring, cannot do enough for you. They left us chocolates on our pillows, brought us crosisants/bread in the morning, gave us bathrobes, left our key for us because we arrived really late, hung our clothes up for us and even plugged in our adapters as we couldn't find all the sockets. They are lovely.
3. Price - not too bad for Paris (we paid 75 euro per night for two people).
4. Location - again, not too bad, close to tube (Menilmontant tube station is about a 5 minute walk away, taking you straight into Paris). We actually stayed here because we were visiting EuroDisney for two days and the location was fine - it took about 1 hour to get to Disneyland (tube from Menilmontant to Marne-la-Vallée — Chessy with a change at Nation).
5. Free wifi.
6. Some lovely bakeries nearby (on your way to Menilmontant metro station - the one nearest the hotel is best, on the right hand side of the road).
Cons: 1. Really minor, but the bathrooms are shared. This was more than fine for us (two adults), and they were really clean and nice, but just might not be suitable for families with young children.
Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again without hesitation. The hotel is lovely, so go on!

My wife and I stayed at Hotel de la Mare for 6 nights in early July, 2014, and we both agreed we had a pleasant and enjoyable time at this hotel. We stayed in what people in North America would call a studio apartment with a kitchenette and a private bathroom (no tub but with a walk-in shower). It was all fitted out nicely and neatly with what looked to me like IKEA furniture and fittings, and that was fine because I like the atmosphere it provided. I was a bit concerned about security at first because our room was on the ground floor facing the street with French windows but it turned out there were securely fixed glass panels outside the French windows which would effective prevent illegal entry but with space all around to allow the air to flow into the room. The hotel is situated in a residential area and Rue de la Mare is a dead end street for vehicles so we had pleasant and quiet evenings when we stayed in our room for evening meals. It was great to have the flexibility of dining out in the evening or just buying groceries and having a simple meal "at home" in the evening. The hotel is located equidistant from two Metro stations - Menilmontant and Pyrenees. Depending on which part of Paris we wanted to go, we would walk to either one of these stations or return to the hotel from it. We had fun walking to either one because the two routes presented parts of Paris with a very different character. On route to Pyrenees were some nice patisseries where we had breakfast. The hotel provides a very nicely designed map which shows all the shops, supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, theatres etc. worth visiting in the area with English descriptions, while on the other side it provides information of Paris overall with tourist sights in relation to the hotel. I thought the map was wonderful and such a good souvenir! It also reflects the spirit and vision behind the service that the hotel aims to provide to its visitors. The hotel is not like other hotels which I stayed at because it is more a residence than a hotel and you would feel as if you are living in a serviced apartment rather than a "hotel". The house keeping was very good and everything was kept neat and clean and in order, although the residents are responsible to keep the kitchenette clean and in order. The kitchenette is fitted out with a hot plate, a Nespresso coffee machine and the necessary utensils for the preparation of a simple meal, although I thought it would have been good if they provided a small toaster often to toast bread or warm croissants. There was a small safe in the closet which was adequate for small items but not for a laptop computer, but that did not bother us as we felt the hotel was good in terms of security. The only thing that bothered me was that the queen size bed was against the wall and I was not used to climbing into bed from the end of the bed. But that did not affect my sleep quality. Overall we had a very good stay at Hotel de la Mare. The hotel staff was pleasant and helpful and was able to communicate with us in English. P.S. Getting to and from the hotel by taxi turned out to be the preferred way for our arrival and departure at Charles de Gaulle airport. We paid 55 euros by taxi from the airport for our arrival in the evening and on our departure, the taxi meter showed 45 euros but we agreed with the driver to pay more because it was next to impossible to call a taxi to come to the hotel when it was raining.

Just Came back from a wonderful 3day city-trip to París where we stayed at hotel de la mare. We strongly recommend this hotel! The room was very clean, quiet, the bed very comfortable and had a little kitchenette where we could make our coffee in the morning before setting off for our sightseeing-trips. There were two huge pro's to this hotel: first of all the bathroom which was HUGE, modern and clean! Even bigger pro though was the service of the reception-couple Hafif and Samia. They were extremely friendly and helpfull, always asking us If everything was ok, giving tips on how to go about to find the places we wanted to go, etc. There was also an extensive brochure provided in the room with info on the neighbourhood of the hotel. The hotel is situated in the 'Menilmontant'-area in a quiet street, the bus stop for bus96 is two minutes away but we preferred taking the metro which was at the 'menilmontant'-square at a ten minutes walk. Menilmontant is a community with all kinds of cultures mixed and many restaurants, bars, shops, etc. Next to the hotel there is a bar 'theatre polulaire' with belgian beer on draft ( seeing i am belgian this is huge plus ;-), a little mini- super, and a nice restaurant 'l'entrepots'. The prices in the bars and restaurants of menilmontant are a lot better than in the touristic centre. This area is ideal to experience the 'real París' and not just the tourist side of the town. Tip: If you're there on a friday go to the market thats situated at the menilmontant-square and enjoy the mix of smells, colours and flavours! As you can see by my VERY extensive review we absolutely loved our stay and would definitely go back! Special thanks to Hafif, t'es un mec tres sympa! ;-)

Bas location, bad vibes, an un comfortable feeling sum up this place perfectly. Definitely spend a bit more and look elsewhere. Not a good neighbourhood, with unsightly scenes. Service was good and rooms ok, but not worth the trouble.

I always book online via the hotel website without difficulty. However if you are experiencing problems, email the hotel to book. The staff there are always helpful. Hope this helps?
Hello Young people!

Dear Sandy,
You like Eiffel Tower, so do we!
1. You can ride there form the hotel, non problem. Bikes are available everywhere in Paris, Velib is the name of the game. More info on the official velib site. There are 2 velib stations near the hotel. But be aware there is very few special bike lanes in Paris, it might be quite dangerous for a novice. And to come back from the Eiffel Tower, you will have to ride up the hill of Ménilmontant. Metro is more adapted for the return.
2. With the metro, we recommend to start at Ménilmontant (500m from the hotel) and go to Victor Hugo (direct line) and walk 10 minutes to discover the Eiffel Tower from the hill of Trocadéro. A great approach!
3. Please come directly to us by mail for your changes, for sure we will find a way to meet your request.
Talk to you soon!
Check-in and check-out can be done from 8am till 10pm.
Our guests can stay in their room until 12 and can access to the rooms from 3pm.
Luggage can be stored before checking-in and afteer checking-out without any fee.
Any special arrangement is possible on demand.

Dear Amin,
Thank you for your question.
