I have a peculiar history with this hotel. Nearly 40 years ago when I was a student, I walked through the neighborhood admiring its links with 20th century authors in english (see more below). I spotted the hotel from the outside. At that time, I could not afford it. And later in life when I passed through Paris on rushed...

We spent 8 nights at the Grandes Ecoles ( purposefully returning after our wonderful stay 17 years ago on our 1st visit to Paris). It had not changed, and was still a charming and peaceful oasis in the heart of the Parisian Latin Quarter. It's beautiful walled garden is tall delightful!! You wake to birds singing. The location is ideal...

We were spending 3 days in Paris at the end of our trip to France, and I chose the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles based on TripAdvisor reviews and because I had lived in the area as a student many years ago and was curious as to how it had changed. The garden was lovely. In cold and grey Paris to...

We enjoyed this comfortable, friendly hotel with a lovely garden for 3 nights . The front desk people were very helpful and patient with directions , restaurants, bus routes , etc. Easy walk to Notre Dame, the Seine, and many great restaurants and cafes along Rue Mouffetard . We loved the breakfast cafes nearby. Felt safe and welcome!

From the moment we arrived in this heavenly oasis where the cobbled courtyard, tall trees and beautiful garden are enclosed by the prettiest hotel imaginable, we knew we were going to enjoy our three nights Easter weekend celebration of my husband's 70th birthday. The four of us (our son and daughter in their late twenties made up the family) were...

Hotel des Grandes Ecoles is one of the highlights of our visits to Paris. This charming hotel -- just north of Place de la Contrescarpe -- is located in the lovely Latin Quarter. Spanning three two-storey historical buildings, it is set around its own private garden courtyard with blossoming trees, bushes and plants, off a medieval street, at the walking...

Our first multi-night trip to Paris! We enjoyed our stay and the room we had was nice. Contrary to other reviews we had no problems with the WIFI. It worked perfectly for our 2 devices. The location is quite nice and convenient for transport. We used Uber a few times as well and most had no problem getting to us....

I booked a round m here 6 months in advance (Oct 2016) for booking in April 2017. Received an email confirmation of booking. Contacted the hotel in early March 2017?just to confirm booking and was informed they did not have my reservation. Can't imagine the stress I would have gone thru if arrived and found I had no booking. Can't...

Exactly what we were looking for a small cosy hotel in a less touristy neighbourhood. From a side street you enter a courtyard where the entrance of the hotel is situated. Checking in was more like a fun conversation than filling out the paperwork. The room was clean, had everything we needed and overlooked the courtyard. Breakfast was French style,...

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
