Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely hotel that is run by a charming couple. We had a large room at the front of the building looking out at the River. It was very peaceful and beautiful. The room was spotlessly clean and very nice. Breakfast was delicious and a great way to start our busy days. It consisted of juices, bread basket, jams, butter, cereals, dried fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, meats and cheese. We enjoyed a cappuccino every morning. We asked for wine to be brought up to our room on two evenings and it was promptly delivered. Excellent stay!

Lovely welcome with a cold drink on a hot day - our host Gabriel could not do enough to ensure the best experience for our stay and was most informative about the town and its amenities. The room was large (as was the bed) and very clean. We sat out in the private courtyard before walking to the main restaurant area. It is a small boutique hotel and I was expecting a basic breakfast; instead it was varied and plentiful. Will definitely stay here again if in the area.

We stayed in a courtyard room at this little hotel tucked just up the road from the centre of town. It was absolutely perfect for an overnight stop on the way from the deep south to Dieppe. A spacious, airy room that opened onto a sweet and attractive courtyard garden, I didn't miss the river view that other rooms in the main building will have had. Service was lovely, the bed syper-comfy and the breakfast was a great example of classic French fare - croissant, bread, pastries, juice, coffee - plus some hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, yogurt etc. Just a short stroll from the middle of this beautiful and historic town, Hotel Agnès Sorel will definitely be seeing us again!

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms are really quiet and Rooms 6 (and probably all of them) was very spacious.

Excellent welcome, well located hotel. Clean and spacious room and bathroom.
High quality breakfast with fresh, local and varied products. Quiet room overlooking lane without traffic. Very fast WiFi > 100MB/s.
Romantic setting on the banks of the Vienne river, and at the foot of the Royal fortress of Chinon.
Excellent value for money.

Very noisy, terrible parking. Upstairs room has truss beams very low and next too bed, easy to hit head. No stand up shower only tub. Really there are better rooms in this city for comparable rate. Would look elsewhere.
There are nice courtyards for several rooms, but again hard to enjoy given the road noise.

We’ve been to Chinon several times now and always planned to stay. So pleased we chose this hotel as it was very traditional, right in the centre of town and on the Loire.
Great room; we’d chosen the suite with private terrace which was good to relax in and very comfortable.
Breakfast in the morning is plentiful and extremely good value.
Next time we’re on our wine trail, we’ll certainly stay again.

Spent one night here on route to Spain. Lovely hotel, room overlooking river, spotlessly clean with a very fastidious owner that had a really cute dog called Joy (although he was a boy). Would definitely recommend Chinon and a must is to have dinner at the Au Chapeau Rouge restaurant, which is within walking distance from the hotel.

We made a confirmed booking here via Booking.com, arriving at 9.30pm on our bikes, only to find the hotel locked, lights off in reception and no-one answering the bell. Perhaps the worst experience you can have after a long days travelling and expecting to think you had somewhere confirmed to stay for the night. Luckily we found another hotel in Chinon. Next day the hotel told us they had charged us for the no show and that on Booking.com it says reception closes at 9pm. There is no special note about this, just on the checkin time, which is very easy to miss and in my opinion not acceptable for a hotel as opposed to a guest house, so be aware of this anyone making a future booking here.

Dear sir, We will expose the full facts below in order to give a chance to all Trip Advisor visitors to make their own opinion. As noticed in your review, you booked a room through booking.com and put a comment saying that you will arrive between 8:00pm and 9:00pm. Your confirmation informs you that the check-in time is from 3:00pm to 9:00pm. We kept the reception open until 9:30pm to wait for you and try to call you on your mobile phone with no answers. The morning after you called us, saying you arrived at 10:30pm (now 9:30pm on your review) and found the reception closed. We pointed out the check-in times noticed on your booking.com reservation, and we also wondered why you didn't call us once arrived as we are living at the hotel. We are reachable 24h/24h. You admit to have not read the check-in times & conditions and not try to call us. You explained that you ring the bell on the main door instead (despite there is no bell on the main door). Regarding the terms & conditions of your booking.com reservation, that you agreed on their website, we charged the night. Then you blackmailed us, saying that you will leave a bad review on Trip Advisor is we are not refunding you. We refused and the conversation ended. When our guests are booking straight through us (email or telephone), we are advicing the importants informations like check-in times or cancellation policy. We assume that people who book by themself through a third website are able to find those informations as they are clearly written on the booking confirmation (there is only the basics on this document, which is a 30 seconds read). By the way, for a late arrival, advising the hotel could be a good idea to get the late check-in informations or at least to answer the phone when the hotel is calling you. We are glad to have welcome more than 2500 people since the 1st of january 2015 with no troubles, even with some check-in after reception closure. The other customer reviews are pointing out the quality of our welcome, which is one of the most important priority for us. We are sad to have not been able to welcome you as deserved but we felt your review the result of an unfair blackmailing. We hope you had a nice trip to France despite this experience, Best regards, Florent & Daniela.

We spent a night in Chinon, along with another family. The hosts were adorable - they were helpful in every possible way, giving us tips about visits, making a reservation in a child friendly restaurant, offering a great breakfast which exceeded our expectations... The rooms are very clean and comfortable.
