Situated near the heart of Chinon, charming to look at and delightful to stay in. This 2 star hotel run by siblings feels terribly under-ranked as service attitude, charming rooms furnished in a 'country' style and excellent breakfasts with home made preserves all give it the feel of a much grander establishment. We stayed two nights, with three children in...

Thank you a thousand times, we are here, all excited about your approach to our house, yes we are an unusual hotel, and we will work to keep it rated "very French," which gives you such pleasure. We promise we will stay three brother and sisters to welcome you on your next visit. Laurent

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel, coming off of 7 days of comfy B&B's. My expectations were exceeded by this quaint hotel. From recommendations for dinner, to their on-site bar, to help with drying my laundry that was still damp from the laundromat. It really is a fantastic place to stay and use as a base for the...

We have now stayed at Hotel Diderot twice and would again with great pleasure. The welcome is warm and personal, the rooms are all very nice with new bathrooms, the breakfast is wonderful. The garden is charming too. The hotel is much higher than its 2 stars rank. I would recommend staying here to anyone who wants a charming, historic...

We stayed here one night. The staff is very friendly. The building is very old with lots of nooks and crannies. Charming with lots of character. The breakfast was very good for France. We stayed in #9 which was quite large. It had a double bed and a single. Bathroom was larger than most France hotel bathrooms. Very clean. There...

We have stayed many times at the Hotel Diderot. We love wandering the streets and antique shops of Chinon, the place where Joan of Arc launched her career (if you can call it that). The Diderot is run by two sisters and their brother, Laurent, Francois and Martine. The hotel is charming. The rooms are furnished with an eclectic mix...

My husband, daughter, and I booked two rooms at Hotel Diderot the first weekend in March, 2012. The only problem we had was that we wished we could have stayed longer than the three nights we were there. The hotel is charming and the hospitality is outstanding. We enjoyed breakfast each morning at the hotel and tried to get through...

Very nice inn in a cute Loire Valley town. The room was large, as was the bath, and except for squeaky floors, very quiet.

Travelling on a business trip, this was a good change from the usual hotel chains (Accor, Best Western,...). This place has character. From an house, they managed to re-create the atmosphere of a home away from home, with warm colours and cosy atmosphere. The parking is a plus and location within Chinon excellent, not far from all the restaurants. Rooms...

Other travellers have already explained what makes this place so lovely. I will just add that I agree and that it is a delightful place in a charming village. Definitely worth the money.

I cannot be certain, but I reckon I’m close, that the Town of Chinon and Hotel Diderot represent exactly what the French are so proud of when they talk of their Loire Valley. The sweet aftertaste of your jam at breakfast, the warm fireplace of the family room, the secret late night entrance only used by those that know, and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ideally situated in the heart of old Chinon, nestled in the quiet and historic neighborhood of the Saint Mexme collegiate church, Hotel Diderot welcomes you into a 15th century limestone mansion, restructured in the 17th and 19th centuries. Hotel Diderot is famous for its marvelous breakfasts, offering a dizzying selection of homemade jams, delicious French breads, brioche and croissants, locally produced fresh goat cheese, honey and fruit juice. Gluten-free breakfast available on request. Here you will find peace and tranquility ; you will experience the warm hospitality of a " tourangelle " residence, in the land of Renaissance writer Francois Rabelais, amidst the splendid vineyards of the Val de Loire, the landscape dotted with magnificent castles and unique gardens. ... more   less
