Detailed Reviews
Desperate to escape following lockdown in the UK we booked a short notice trip to Brittany.
Being worried about the impact re Covid and wanting at least a small sense of normality we rang round a few hotels in Saint Malo. The owner of the Bristol Union was by far the most helpful and reassuring. We had a large car plus roof rack and 4 bikes on the back. Parking was a worry. We were provided with fantastic off street parking and the owner graciously ( helped spare my blushes ) parked my car in an underground car park.
The hotel itself was very pleasant it was tastefully decorated . The position was perfect and whilst one of our two rooms was a little tight for space it served our purposes perfectly. The breakfast was great and the owners always helpful . The Covid etiquette was followed without detracting from our desire to have a short stay at this beautiful location. We would recommend this hotel to our friends and family without hesitation.

The Bristol Union is located in the very centre of the old town of St. Malo and all attractions are close by. In August, we were also happy to see that the whole town was alive with great music performances in the evening and the weather was very pleasant (around 25 degrees, while the rest of the country was at 35).
The hotel is very well run by new owners and displays all advantages of a private boutique hotel. The breakfast was wonderful, with local and many homemade dishes, the owners very helpful and attentive to details and the room clean and with all amenities (we even had a balcony, which was great for reading in the late afternoon).
Mont Saint Michel is the obvious attraction nearby, but we especially enjoyed the short boat trip to Dinard, with ferries running frequently.
All in all, this is a great place to stay and we wish the new owners all the best with their hotel business.

This is a fantastic recently refurbished hotel within the walls of Saint Malo.
My wife and I and our adult son stayed in the triple room on the top floor with a great view overlooking the courtyard at the front of the building. The room was very well proportioned and had nice comfortable beds and lovely décor.
The reception area is very cosy and well designed with really nice sofas to relax on.
Breakfast was delicious with everything you need.
Great value parking organised at the time of booking directly with the hotel. It was 2 mins walk in a large secure underground car park with lots of free spaces.
Great friendly hosts who are passionate about their hotel and rightly so !!

A decent mid-price hotel within the citadel walls. Highlights are the large buffet breakfasts, modern showers, good external soundproofing, efficient WiFi, and helpful owners. The cheapest rooms are small and, on lower floors, rather dark. But overall this is a sound choice if you need a hotel inside the walls.

We were lucky to find this at the very last minute as the town was extremely busy with tourists.
Situated just inside from the main gate the square was just off the busy high street but inside it was quiet both night and day.
We had a room at the top which had a view of the cathedral spire and thus throughout the day you could enjoy the sound of the bells.
The room was very clean with a comfortable bed and nice bathroom.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and the place felt very relaxed. We included breakfast which was a cold buffet but had plenty to choose from. Bottles of water were provided to take as and when you needed them.
A fan was provided also.

This hotel is only a 15 minute walk from the Condor ferry terminal. Being intra-muros it is ideally located close all of the sights, the pubs, stores and the restaurants in the old city. Our check in was quick, friendly and easy. Our room was newly refurbished – very clean and bright. The bathroom though was small but well appointed. We had a view of the medieval wash stand from our room. The only complaint about our room was that shower was not completely enclosed, so that water leaked on the floor. We stayed here only for one night and left early the next morning for our 30 minute walk to the train station. This is a fine hotel in a great location to visit the old city and to be near the ferry terminal.

The Bristol Union hotel is located in the heart of Saint Malo intramuros. Close to the restaurant area, the shopping streets and obviously, the wall. It has a classic decoration of good taste. Its rooms are neat, very clean and well equipped. The breakfast was well served, with excellent quality, where some homemade cakes and sweets stand out. But the most important thing is the warmth of its owners, especially Aurelia, always willing to solve any problem. And with an added bonus, both she and one of the receptionists speak perfect Spanish (they lived for years in Chile and Argentina respectively), which is a balm for those of us, like me, who fight with our faulty English or French when we try to make ourselves understood. Without a doubt, a place to recommend in Saint Malo.

We stayed here as a family group, so various ages from 30s to 70s. Everyone was impressed by the hotel. It’s in a very central location in St Malo with parking round the corner, easy walk from the train station too.
The owners couldn’t be more warm, welcoming and friendly. Same goes for all of their staff.
Great breakfast, with lots of bits to choose from.
The rooms looked recently refurbished, and were cozy and cleaned well daily.

Travelling as two couples, we selected this place for it's central location. We called to book the kind of rooms needed for my parents and from the start the experience was fantastic.
The rooms were comfortable (including the beds) and we had enough space. The (new) hotel owners were both helpful and kind, making us feel immediately at home.
They gave us suggestions for food and outings.
Breakfast was better than expected and coffee was good.
All four of us were impressed and highly recommend Hotel Bristol Union and it's staff.. we hope to come back!
