This is close to being in jail without the inconvenience of appearing in court first. A bleak block on an out of town business park - But - and it’s important but - it does what it says. Cheap, comfortable and clean and perfect for an overnight stay before the ferry. At least you don’t have to share your cell. Rather fun really.

The Hotel Formule 1 at St Malo is located a way out of the centre and not easy to find. Once there it is clean and fine for a one night stay which is what we wanted. Only downside is that the rooms are not ensuite and although there are plenty of toilets and shower rooms we wouldn't have booked it had we known. The breakfast is OK and good for the price. I can't say I would return but it is a very good budget option.

This place is cheap, but that is the selling point. You get a clean, Spartan room with a double bed (a bit firm) and a single bunk bead on top, a sink, a plastic cup, a towel (clean and fluffy) and a TV bolted to the wall. There is no en suite shower or toilet, and not much room to sing a cat. Everything worked perfectly, everything was clean, and for a one night stop over before taking the ferry home it was the cheapest place we could find that wasn't in the middle of no where that had free car parking.

The location is very dull, but actually where you need it to be, next to the large shopping centre on the edge of town. Though easy to get to it was far enough from the road to be quiet at night and we were able to get a good nights sleep without any road noise or noisy neighbours.

Hotel is average if you desperately need somewhere to sleep for the night and can’t find anywhere else for the night, for example waiting for a ferry like us (basically better than sleeping in the car but not by much). I wouldn’t recommend staying if you can avoid it. Pictures on the booking websites are very misleading. The rooms don’t have separate toilets they are communal toilets for that floor like wise are the showers which isn’t made clear when booking. The whole hotel gives off a prison vibe with all grey walls, floors, ceilings and doors with security pin pads. A drastic contrast to the vibrant glowing colours shown by the website. The room very much felt like a jail cell especially with one of the hotels spot lights shining into the room all night which even the black out blind couldn’t prevent. We booked online and on arrival had to pay and got charged a tourist tax which wasn’t stated when booking. Staff are only there between 5pm and 9pm who are also unfriendly which really goes along with the prison vibe. Only positive was at least the room and toilet facilities were clean. Please avoid if you can as it’s not that cheap a considering you spend a night in a jail cell for free. We certainly won’t be staying again.

Room for 2 adults 1 children, toilet and bathroom in El corridor as noted on the ad.
We slept 2 nights in the same room, no insulation awakened all night by the sound of doors slamming, the sound of people in the hallways with music on the phone. Nobody watches at night so it's party time, no respect.
At lunchtime we had taken 1 chicken from the Potatoes at the Point of Sale, to eat at the Pension. We settle on kes tables (planned to have breakfast). And the surprise we got fired by the manager because we had to either eat out (there was a freezing wind, I quote his words, not even rainy weather you eat out), or so he told us to eat in the rooms, it's sure that eating in 3 in a tiny room with a tiny tables, 1 chair. Anyway. I would never have thought of eating in the rooms, just to respect the place. In short we will not come back here. Yet we are used to Formula 1.

He's got nothing but the Award. It looks like a dormitory. You can hear the slightest noise (door slamming, discussion...) The cafeteria, it's just a cake dispenser. Not renovated for the best, there could have been the toilet and shower in the rooms.

Unassuming from the outside and not particularly inviting, but a real gem inside with an absolutely comfortable atmosphere. The best way to spend the night and enjoy a typical French breakfast for a reasonable price!
The rooms and bathrooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and Ghislain is a real "treasure"; always there when you need him, always friendly and helpful! Definitely worth a visit.
We would love to come back.

Clean and somewhere to rest your head. The manager on site was amazing. I cannot stress this enough he made the place nothing was too much for him. I was cycling across france and speak very little French. I needed a break after 500 or so miles and found this place. I stayed for 3 days and every day I was treated with a hello how are you. Where are you going? How can I help? I'll call a taxi for you. This man should be employee of the year. Unfortunately I can't remember his name!!! It's starts with a G . He's a black chap lives in Paris and if his employer reads this...I stayed there on the 8th 9th n 10th of June 2024....this man needs a pay rise.

I can only echo the excellent reports on here. This could be the best F1 in France. Manageress extremely friendly and helpful and spoke very good English. Rooms very clean and but simple, breakfast 4,60 Euro and good value. Nice touch to have some seating outside to enjoy warm weather. Hotel under half full at time of stay during mid September, appreciate there may be queues for Toilets, Showers ( and possibly breakfast too ) during main holiday season.

Sept Pertuis bus stop under 2 minute walk from front door with about 20 min run to Town Centre / Station area. All Day City bus ticket 3,80 Euro, La Madeleine Shopping Centre 10 min walk away with cheap restaurants and hypermarket contained within.

F1 budget hotels are consistent, clean, reliable and cheap. Car parking is free. They are not en-suite but the facilities are a few steps away. I use them to let me get the morning ferry from St Malo to Portsmouth without having to drive through the night to get there. Another benefit is I get to spend the night wandering around St Malo, soaking in the sights before choosing a restaurant. think they are great value for money for travellers.
