We stayed at Le Saint James for one night in August. While the hotel is small and with little staff, they could not have been kinder with their time, be it directions, restaurant recommendations, printing, etc. We also were extremely happy with the location, walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Our rooms were comfortable and the value could not have been better.

Very friendly and helpful owner/manager,great price and well located for the beach, restaurants etc. But, if you like a bit of fresh air at night (and the rooms do get hot with no aircon or even a fan) then you better have some earplugs. The noise from the restaurants and bars goes till around 3 pm and is closely followed by the street sweepers and delivery trucks for the market.

Just revisited Biarritz with my wife and no children for a trip down memory lane.... not much has changed except that Avenue Gambetta and streets around the Market are now the place to be after dark and Hotel le St James is right in the middle of it!! It is a nice hotel, the manageress is charming, the room was small but very clean, there is tea coffee bun and juice and a sizeable flat screen tv...but if you're a light sleeper don't bother!! We fortunately don't mind noise... but if its not the bars, then there's the scooters, the dust carts, the road sweepers, the rough sleepers, the early morning deliveries to the market or maybe Biarritz is just NOISY it used to be down by the Casino... that's now dead by 10.30!! Maybe try sleeping on the Beach!!

I am not young and my eyesight is not good and by mistake booked for June not July (5 months in advance). 5 minutes later my wife noticed the mistake so I tried to change the dates. Unfortunately the dates for July were not available so I sent a message to the hotel explaining what had happened and if they could waive any cancellation fee. They ignored my message and when i came to cancel (still 5 months in advance) they charged me the full cancellation fee.
This hotel may or may not be nice but the staff are not.

the hotel is well located, and this is the only positive point that we can remark.

the rooms are too small, the bed is likely to be a hostel bed and the toilet does not have a door (no separation between the doorm and toilet). The beakfast is included but they would let in our room a tea bag, a brick of orange juice and a mini muffin (very bad quality).

The price was too expensive for what we had.

I would not recommend this hotel. there are better options in Biarritz to stay some days.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my boyfriend in July. Recently rennovated rooms, extremely clean, basic. Manager is extremely nice and although there is no breakfast served in this hotel you do get a juice and a cake every day which is nice! You'll be a short walk to the beach and the main square with loads of cafe's, restaurants and shops.

Very handy location, without the 'on the beach' price. The hotel is in a street with lots of bars and restaurants which is great, but the street noise is pretty much constant all night and there is also a fresh food market directly across the street which starts quite early, with trucks delivering goods during the night.

Hotel is in a good location with a lovely, helpful manager. Our room was basic but clean. The only downside was the sound of the crowds outside enjoying the bars and restaurants in the early hours.

Directly across the street from les Halles and 5 minutes walk to the beach. The room was clean comfortable and had a pretty view. We were nervous about being noisy at night but with the windows closed we couldn’t hear a sound.

The woman taking care of the hotel, Frederique, was super helpful and very nice.

The first problem was actually finding the hotel. I was on a cycle tour and the weather was atrocious, with rain and wind. Although i put the location into google maps, i failed to find it at first because people were taking cover from rain in front of the single small door next door to a restaurant (which turns out to be associated with the Hotel). The name on the building is otherwise obscured by a large awning. A hotel across the street was very helpful and pointed out the door, which by then was no longer obscured. One goes through a security door and then up 2 short flights of stairs. Check in was easy and my bike was stored in a locked room just around the corner from mine. Nothing was said about the fact that no one would be around to unlock that storage room until 8:30 the next morning, which eliminated my chance for an early departure.
The room is small, but standard size for most places in Europe. The bathroom was large and the bed quite comfortable.
A major draw for this hotel is its location, which also happens to be a big drawback. The street has multiple bars just across the street from the hotel, all of which come alive after 10pm, so if you want sleep, ear plugs are a good idea. The walls are also thin, so the TV in the room next door, that started up at about 2am, was an issue. There is no air conditioning, so if it is warm, the only option is open windows.
