Reading the earlier reviews feel lucky we were a few weeks later after they have reopened! However they said they are going to refurb the rooms so guess more building work on the way? Our room was excellent, very large and well kitted out. We were very pleased with it. However we were told on arrival they were not serving...

Having visited the lodge today firstly we were very disappointed to see that a beautiful old building had been made soulless, no atmosphere and the food was appalling no taste or flavour very disappointed will never return shame as it used to be an excellent place to eat and relax, nothing like that today very very noisy and cold !

Took money a month ago though they shouldn't have done so without advising first knowing that this work was going to happen. I have cancelled but still waiting for a refund and Booking.Com no help at all getting a refund .

My Wife booked a stay here as a surprise for my birthday on 11th July 2015. We, like everyone else recently, we're met with the " closed for refurbishment" on the door. The place was a death trap inside and we were told that we should have received an email warning us of this, but we had not received any...

Booked 2 rooms here back in December 2014 for July 2015, arrived early evening on Friday July 4th to find a sign saying 'Closed for refurb'. Checked inside and found the rooms were still available but the bar area was in the process of being stripped and repainted and varnished. There were no food facilities meaning no breakfast. With no...

After booking on line 5 weeks ago in Australia and arriving late in the afternoon I was greeted with "Closed for refurb". We were greeted by a lonely site manager stating Didn't you receive our email!!!. We tramped over pulled up carpet, paint tins to our room. The room was musty and dull. The worst was yet to come, no...

When we arrived at the hotel we was suprised to be walking into a building site and signs saying under renovation. We had no warning of this prior to booking and even the staff admitted they were not made aware it was happening and they just came into work one day and they renovation work had started. I understand the...

Booked through booking.com on a 'pay on arrival' policy in March, for a Dec stay. 4 months later, they've just decided to take payment! No contact, no notice, all my booking policies state no payment will be taken, and payment on arrival. Called the hotel to be told there's been new management, they're refurbishing, and the new manager has told...

I've given the lodge 2 stars as it was cheaper than the local Premier Inn and despite being old & tatty, the room was clean although I'd dropped my bags off earlier and the storage are was filthy! Firstly we had to dice with death walking alongside the busy A6 to actually get to the room due to there being...

This is a budget hotel and although okay for one night, would not want to stay any longer. The place is very tired and needs a complete refurbishment as it has lots of promise to be an exceptional hotel.
