Right in the centre of Lancaster with its own small car park. Beautiful elegant breakfast room. Good breakfast. Comfortable room. Slightly old fashioned but it was a delight to be in a atmospheric old hotel rather than in a clinical modern one. Good value.

You have to look past the faded glories and worn carpet. This is a rather lovely comfortable hotel that is really well located and very modestly priced. Close to the railway station and the castle and central town. Our room was a bit worn but perfectly clean and tidy. The staff were really lovely. I would recommend the hotel highly...

Room was very very hot in late December because they have a very ancient heating system that is basically always on in winter. Thermostatic valves in the rooms did not help because the pipes themselves were causing most of the heat. Opening the window lets in the street noise from party revelers below. We had to ask to be moved...

We enjoyed our stay and as always staff were very helpful and friendly . It was a shame that the bar was till closed as getting drink from reception didn't feel right, it also made it feel that the hotel wasn't really open

We were looking for a place in the centre of Lancaster which could accommodated at least 80 for a buffet meal after my sons church dedication service. We struggled to find some where but then came across the Royal Kings Arms hotel! It was perfect! Walking distance from our church. It had a lovely grand function room with a balcony...

Interesting experience... It had some charm to stay in a hotel with history, to use ancient lift, to see strange notes on the windows in the room, like "be aware of pigeons", to have breakfast in a glory room with chandeliers. To feel like you are the only guests in a hotel; to get the vouchers for breakfast and show...

The hotel is a characterful but tired old lady and our room although clean was a bit out of date. However there we were in the centre of the lively and beautiful City of Lancaster. At the price there was nothing not to like ...

The Royal kings Arms is a city centre hotel in Lancaster. Although it may have seen better days, and would have been stunning in its heyday, it offers a refreshing alternative to those sterile "chain store hotels" at a fraction of their cost. The warm, comfortable room matched the warmth of the welcome from the great reception staff. Interesting experience...

A very warm welcome on a very cold day. We got out of a cold wind into a very nicely heated and cosy hotel. The staff are , as always, very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very relaxing and a lot more interesting than modern chrome and glass boxes.

Stayed there for ten nights as hotel in Carnforth was not available. Thus commuted twice a day from his hotel which is 11 minutes' walk from the train station. The hotel is a sweet old thing with creaky stairs and ditto elevator. Bathroom was nice and recent. Room decor dated - stuck in 1947, but with a telly. Breakfast room...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We always offer the best prices to our guests direct through hotel reception so be sure to call us first. Fantastic all round venue in a central location, ideal for weddings and functions, everything under one roof. In the heart of the historic city of Lancaster, with views of its famous castle, stands the Royal Kings Arms Hotel. Originally built in 1625 and later rebuilt in 1879, the hotel was immortalized by Charles Dickens in his tale of "The Lazy Tour of Two Idle Apprentices". This Grade II listed hotel has 55 comfortable en-suite bedrooms, including the luxury Castle Suite, with its four poster bed and views of the castle, the entrance to which is just 50 yards away. With origins dating back almost 1,000 years Lancaster Castle, a Grade 1 listed building, occupies a city-centre hilltop location on the site of three successive Roman forts and has been described by English Heritage as "not only the North-West's most important historic and archaeological monument but also of international importance". Other historic buildings in Lancaster include the Judge's Lodgings and the Doll Museum. The sea plays a big part in Lancaster's history and the Maritime Museum is a fascinating place to visit. Beyond the city, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are within easy reach, while the seaside resorts of Morecambe and Blackpool are a short drive away. Breakfast is available when checking in at reception, we do have car parking facilities at £5 per car per stay at the rear of the hotel. ... more   less

“Toilet flusher in our room wasn't working properly and took several attempts , this wasn't very good as I was sharing . Could do with a bed side lamp as you either have to have the main light on or get out of bed to switch the lamp on the dressing table either on or off ”
