Positives : - Beautiful restaurant in immaculate condition - Lovely gardens and outdoor seating area - Good food Negatives: - Owner came across as arrogant and condescending - Initial booking was taken incorrectly and blamed on our party - Service was below par, incorrect order noted and corrected twice by our party, incorrect order served and the arrogant attitude shown by the owner as if it was our mistake spoke volumes - If you have children, go elsewhere. The owner clearly dislikes children and is demonstrated by other online reviews - Given that we were a larger party spending a larger amount during a quiet lunch period we would have expected better. Although given the responses online to other negative reviews, this was unsurprising In comparison to other restaurants visited in the area we would not visit again due to the disappointing service attitudes displayed. As one of our party noted, hospitality is probably the wrong industry for the owner.…
Food was ok but DO NOT visit with children. The manager doesn’t want them there and made it clear they are a massive inconvenience. Wish we had read the other reviews from families before making the journey out from Harrogate. We won’t be back.
My wife and I visited here last month for lunch. The experience was excellent from start to finish. We were met with a friendly welcome in the bar area. It was busy-ish with locals, but very relaxed. We ordered at the table and then were taken into the restaurant. There was a large party in there, but the service was attentive throughout and the food was excellent.
Following a dog walk at Fewston Reservoir we arrived at 3 pm on a Saturday for a late lunch. We were greeted by friendly staff, a log fire and very impressive menu suitable for all tastes. The food was extremely tasty and well presented and had clearly been prepared with skill and care and all at very reasonable prices. We will be back!
Breakfast - probably the best we've ever had in any of the many UK hotels/b and bs we've stayed at - deserves first mention: a lavish full English plus fresh fruit salad, a variety of cereals, ample toast/croissants, yoghourts etc, etc made for a terrific (if embarrassingly greedy) start to the day. And extra praise is due a hotel that catered fully for my wife's non-gluten preferences. Good food in the reasonably-priced restaurant plus friendly and helpful staff made for a pleasant stay in a lovely area. Our only criticism was a rather small room (Chablis) that was a little under-heated, but we were too busy looking forward to the next day's breakfast to let this bother us too much. Highly recommended.
