The location was good (removed from road but behind a large construction site) and the owner was incredibly friendly. We stayed at B&B's for most of our trip and this definitely felt more like a hostel to us. We appreciated the sink in our room but we weren't prepared with our own soap. The shared bathrooms and showers were clean.

Abbeywood is great, we stayed there for 3 nights with our kids, perfect base for doing the greenway cycle which is brilliant. Abbeywood is a friendly place and well run. Clean warm and comfortable. We had a lovely stay, able to stroll into Westport in the evenings and sample the pubs and restaurants. The staff are very helpful and will...

We rarely stay in hostels, but read about the Abbeywood on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! Stayed twice because it is both inexpensive and convenient to cycling the Greenway Trail, walking to town, and day trips in this part of Ireland. The building is well-restored and kept very clean. As others...

This guest-house is an ex-monastery and there's an easy-going, unfussy atmosphere about the place. The rooms are clean and airy, The breakfast bread is delicious and will keep you going all day. There's not a rasher or sausage in sight, so don't expect Full Irish! Susan, the owner, is delightful -friendly and welcoming. She puts up a two day weather-forecast outside...

Westport can be very busy, but this place takes you to a quiet tranquil setting. Its 2mins walk from the town and set off the road surrounded in acres of mowed lawns and beautiful landscape. You would feel like you are living in the grandest of houses. The lady who greeted us was so nice. There was fresh baked wheaten...

Once again, we were packing along Rick Steves' Ireland travel book and inside it recommends Abbeywood as an economical place to stay in Westport. Abbeywood is one of the best finds we've come across in Ireland (though there are many); it is well priced; clean; amazing views; good amenities; and Susan the owner is really helpful and super friendly. In...

This is a very clean, well run hostel that serves a nice breakfast. Through an error on my part, I thought it was a standard B&B. Instead, it a very nice, family oriented establishment that feels like an extended family home. The building and grounds are lovely and there is a fantastic view of Croag Patrick from nearly every window....

Thank you for your review! You are totally right, we are not a standard B&B by any means although we do provide Bed and Breakfast. We are also not a hostel as such as we do not have kitchen access or shared dorms. We try to provide the best of both, with a communal area where guests can hang out,...

Wonderful spot, delicious breakfast (loved the home made bread), excellent value, very central location - highly recommend. We had the best sleep of our trip here. The family who owns the place is very sweet and friendly.

We stayed here with for 2 nights and would highly recommend it. It was very good value and only about 2 minutes walk to the centre of town. The hosts were really friendly and informed us of all the attractions nearby to occupy the kids (aged 3 and 5). Had a great couple of days and Westport is a really...

Thank you for your comments, we always welcome families with children , especially having two young boys ourselves. Although we're in a central location we have big gardens for kids to run around and burn off some energy away from the main road and traffic. Hope to see you back again soon!

What do you look for in a place to stay? Do you find hotels too expensive? B&Bs too claustrophobic and hostels too communal? Abbeywood gives you the best of all three...A former monastery, still retaining many of its original features such as stained glass windows, polished wood floors and high ceilings. Its situation, set in off the road in its own grounds makes it hard to believe it's so close to the centre of town. Come see us! ... more   less
