A wonderful, homey place with amazing food. The owners are brilliant - smart, helpful, nice. Their home is lovely. We felt incredibly welcome, as though we had known them for years. The homemade sodabread scones were out of this world wonderful! My husband and I deemed it as one of the best places we stayed on our two week trip....

My wife and I stayed at Alcantra in early May 2007. Even though Liam and Brigid were not home when we arrived (early), their lovely daughter took great care of us. She also recommended the Marble City Bar for dinner after a long drive from Dublin. The "walk" into town was a little far, for us seniors, but all downhill...

I stayed at Alcantra with my 2 Japanese friends & my husband for only one night. When I entered the house, I noticed this B&B was the best ever. Every room was very clean and tastefully decorated. Our bed was very comfortable and we slept well until the birds woke us up. They also have a nicely designed garden. Their...

We loved this B&B. This was the first place we stayed on our arrival in Ireland and, by far, the best. Our hostess was extremely friendly and helpful. She came armed with a map and sat with us after breakfast to help us with suggestions on our daily activities. She also offered suggestions of pubs and restaurants for dinner. A...

This was the fourth of eight bed and breakfasts we stated at on our honeymoon to Ireland and Scotland. We were not impressed with the food, our hostess, or the room. We would never stay here again. Our hostess was polite, but while we were out she went through our things. For example, she moved my dirty underwear into a...

This was the nicest B&B we stayed in in Ireland. Brigid was very welcoming to all of us. Our room was very spacious with a plush carpet, comfortable bed and large bathroom. Our two grown daughters had a separate room with twin beds ... also more than adequate. The soda scones at breakfast were yummy! Brigid took extra time to...

We had a wonderful experience at Alcantra! We had flown into Dublin from the US and driven down to Kilkenny the same day seeing some sights along the way. Needless to say, we were very tired! Alcrantra proved perfect for the weary traveler. Ireland was in the middle of a heat wave and I was worried when there was no...

This is a prime example of how a B&B should be. The host and hostess were warm, welcoming, and eager to fill our every need. The room, while small (a triple) was still adequate for our needs. The bathroom was huge, the shower pressure FANTASTIC strong, the breakfast was fabulous! Our hostess, Brigid, even served homemade jams during our stay,...

This was a wonderful place to stay. The B&B is a short stroll (10 minutes) to the city center, and the hospitality of the host was great. The room was exceptionally spotless, breakfast was delicious and served on fancy dishware, and the place itself really felt like a warm, inviting home. Highly recommended.
