We pulled into Galway after a long day of driving. We arrived at the Heron's Rest. My wife headed in to check us in and I unloaded the bags from the car. As I entered the B&B I was staring at a narrow staircase and we were on the third floor. The climb was well worth it since we were...

The Heron's Rest was an amazing place to stay! Our host, Sorcha, was incredible. She is a nutritionist and incredible cook, her breakfasts were the best we had in Ireland! She was very helpful with travel advice, suggestions for things to do, and overall a joy to be around. The location was fantastic - tucked away on the Long Walk...

If you want a great location to explore Galway then the Heron's Rest is it. Nice rooms, clean and the breakfast has wonderful scones fresh baked daily. The host is knowledgeable and pointed out the best way to see the Cliffs of Moher. Our only issue was the noisy end of semester parties while we were there - the students...

Perfect little bed and breakfast for our one night stay in Galway! The hostess was exceptional - she helped my husband and I and our two friends map out our trip down to Southern Ireland for the next two days and even booked other reservations for us! Best part was the wonderfully delicious and huge spread for breakfast she made...

This is a wonderful place to stay, peaceful with wonderful views over the estuary, with binoculars on the windowsill so that you can view its birdlife. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and with everything one needs for one to as many nights as you might wish to stay. The host is very friendly and the breakfast is stunning!

Well looked after in delightful location by gracious host. As well as a great baker with an eye for providing a relaxing and comfortable series of rooms there was attention to all our needs. One of us was gluten free and was accommodated easily and a query about parking was instantly addressed. The perfect spot from which to enjoy Galway...

We loved being close to Quay Street, the water, seeing the white swans in the mornings. And watching the 15ft tides. We also loved the communal breakfast table, we got to chat to other travellers. Take 'on/off' bus to get a feel for the city, it has a canal and river flowing through it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In Galway City centre The Herons Rest lies nestled on the banks of the river Corrib over looking the traditional Claddagh harbour. This idyllic waterside location is only 3 mins from the hustle and bustle of the centre of town and the 'craic' of Galway's Latin Quarter. Each cosy chic bedroom has stunning views overlooking the Claddagh Harbour and the famous Galway Bay. Outside the water is teaming with wildlife such as, otters, herons and the largest colony of mute swans in Western Europe. Traditional sailing boats named 'Galway Hookers' can be watched setting sail from your bedroom window and our binoculars enhance the view that stretches across to the Burren Hills. We call it 'keeping it country in the city'. Ethos Our philosophy at The Herons Rest is to ensure our guests get the most out of Galway and its locale. We enjoy providing a home from home experience and strive to share the best of the west with you. Our gourmet breakfasts alone, provisioned from local and organic produce have made us a destination not to miss. In each cosy chic bedroom lots of thoughtful touches enhance your comfort and panoramic views of the bay give a feeling of idyllic hideaway whilst still located in the city centre. We love to share up-to the minute advice with you on the best restaurant recommendations and help you with your reservations. Galway is the perfect base for day tripping and we offer personalised route planning to ensure you can avoid the tourist traps and find unspoilt secret spots. Why not let us pack a gourmet picnic for you? Or book afternoon tea on arrival to start your stay in a relaxing style. Breakfast is a convivial, cooked to order feast, prepared in front of you by your host. It is served at our communal breakfast table between 8- 11am and may also be received in your room. Irish farmhouse cheeses, natural juices and organic local yogurts accompany an 8 option gourmet menu. We are happy top accommodate your specific dietary requirements upon request. At the Herons Rest are passionate about hospitality and look forward to extending a warm welcome to you. ... more   less
