Based right in the heart of Glasgow, adjacent to Queen Street Station and Buchanan Street and with the airport bus service stopping right at our door, we are the perfect city centre base. We are four star rated, and each of our 64 bedrooms feature a complimentary Minibar and decanted spirits, multi channel LCD TV with Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3, desk, and bathroom with bath and power shower to ensure you have a comfortable and relaxing stay while you are with us. WiFi is free for the duration of your stay, and so are local phone calls. National calls are just 3p per minute. Located on the 7th floor of the hotel, Windows is Glasgow's only rooftop restaurant. Windows Restaurant serves delicious dishes created with local produce with menus changing to reflect what's in season. In fact, the food is only matched by the view over the rooftops of Glasgow! Breakfast is served in Windows in the morning, or can be delivered to your room. Guests can enjoy complimentary soft drinks, snacks and coffee throughout the day, and complimentary wine, beer and selected spirits each evening in the Executive Lounge located on the 7th floor. The lounge also features the Thomson Boardroom, ideal for meetings or private dining for up to 14 people. At the Carlton George Hotel we've worked hard to create a comfortable and informal setting where you can make yourself at home and relax, but still experience fantastic service.

Wonderful stay at Carlton George in Glasgow! Mark with reception went out of his way to make our anniversary extra special. The location is awesome and right next to Queen Street Station. Our room was beautiful and the wait staff at their rooftop restaurant Windows, were amazing. We will return!!!

The airport bus dropped me off right in front of the hotel. The bus stop to the airport is a block away. The staff was friendly and always greeted me in the morning and when I returned. My room was clean and the housekeeping staff did a great job during my 2 week stay. There were a coffee machines and coffee supplies. There were potato chips, granola bars and cookies in a cup board which I didn't discover until the second week. There was whisky, gin and vodka, beer, soft drink and bottled water. My room had access to the lounge but I didn't use it. There are so many nice restaurants within walking distance that I didn't get to try them all during my 2 week stay. Hotel is within a short walking distance to public transport hubs, grocery stores and shops. Overall it was a lovely stay and I would return.

First and foremost, the location can't be beat. Not only is the Carlton George adjacent to the Glasgow Queens railway station and the Buchanan St subway station, there is a world of great restaurants and good shopping just outside your door. And the subway gave us great access to the University area with more 'local' shopping and eateries and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum - an eclectic, extraordinarily well curated delight. We were in a pair of Club Balcony with Lounge Access rooms - one was spacious and the other was not but both were quite comfortable and we enjoyed the balconies. The age of the hotel and time since the last refurbishment definitely showed...but everything functioned well and there was a certain quirky charm to the place. And the mini bars were well stocked with an Illy coffee machine and tea, hard alcohol, wine, and beer, soft drinks and water, and a variety of snacks. Unfortunately, there were also disappointments. First and foremost was my misunderstanding of what 'Lounge Access' meant. We've stayed all over the world, albeit mostly in hotels affiliated with major brands, and this is the first one in which a free breakfast was not served in the lounge as part of paying for (or because of loyalty entitled to) the lounge. Also, we are used to having light fare served in the lounge in the evening in addition to some sort of crisps/pretzels/nuts snacks during the day. This was not the case here. So, when we read the booking description and later received a pre-arrival email stating that because of COVID we should choose one of two 'shifts' for our evening lounge time and ideally a time for breakfast our misunderstanding was reinforced. The subsequent email exchange did nothing to disabuse us of that notion. Upon arrival we were asked to pay a fee for breakfast and (perhaps foolishly) in the rush to drop off our bags and arrive on-time to a previously booked engagement I did. The breakfast, served in the on-site restaurant and not the lounge, was OK...not great but not awful. Another disappointment was the view. The photos on the website highlighting the views overlooking the rooftops of Glasgow turned out to be taken from one corner of the restaurant. There is a building of the essentially the same height as the hotel just across the street. Lastly, the lack of ice was a minor irritant (yes, I know I'm American). When I asked about it I was told that since I had lounge access the easiest answer was to use the ice machine located there. I never did find out what I should do when the lounge was closed (or if I didn't have access). All that said, when I rate a hotel or restaurant I base it on two ideas - did we enjoy our experience and would we go again. I certainly would not pre-book breakfast if we were to stay again. And I doubt I would pay for lounge access or a balcony. But while our stay was just 4 stars, after once again reviewing the other options in Glasgow I would absolutely choose the Carlton George again. So in the interest of guiding others as to where they should stay, 5 stars it is.

This is a nice hotel, medium size and in amazing location near George Square and a main train station. Rooms are a very nice size, breakfast usually included and there is an executive lounge which is nice addition too. Would recommend.

The CG is in a fantastic location in Merchant City but protected from noise. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. Being a neighbour to Waxy o’Connors and the shopping in Buchanan is a plus. The open mini bar is a great idea. I would stay here again and recommend it.

We arrived in Glasgow to begin our 2 week holiday driving around Scotland. Hotel Carlton is great hotel to stay at if visiting the city. The room was clean and comfortable. You can't beat the price for the location and and the many restaurants, shopping and historical sights close to the hotel, including the first stop for the "hop on hop off" bus. Highly recommend this hotel

Just back from a overnight stay and can’t believe the difference in a few years with Carlton George. We were so impressed on our last visit and so much has changed. I am genuinely not one for leaving negative reviews but I feel these need to be addressed as it definitely isn’t your usual Carlton George experience. We booked an executive room with lounge access. No issues with room. Comfortable bed and good shower. Mini bar and decanters. My partner had booked extras which was lovely when we arrived. Part of our package was 3 course meal in rooftop restaurant. The restaurant is lovely and amazing views over glasgow. When we arrived we were taken over to be seated and given menu ( which wasn’t the market menu that we had booked) We then waited about 15 mins to be asked if we wanted a drink. The restaurant only had 2 other tables of customers so wasn’t busy. There was around 4 staff all huddled around bar and could see we were waiting and the fact we were looking over no one seemed bothered. The waiter did eventually explain they were learning a new app to order which was fine but no attention was given to waiting customers. This seemed to be a running theme afterwards. The food was mediocre definitely not the quality we had before or what you are paying for. The lounge was self service. We couldn’t find the ice when we arrived. Behind the lounge is the kitchen and we could hear someone moving around. We asked if they could help us. The chef came out not happy and told us there the bell was ( I might add was not in an obvious place) extremely rude. There was no other staff member around to ask. The mixers were all 2 litre bottles that everyone was sharing. I found it a bit bizarre after pandemic they would have this. The snacks again were not really up to much. I’ve never had popcorn that wasn’t flavoured at all but they had it there. Even some plain crisps would have been better but these are little things. The final straw this morning was breakfast. Now we raved about breakfast to everyone last time we were here, it was outstanding. Also for an extra £5 you get it delivered to your room. The breakfast that arrived was abysmal. We went for Scottish breakfast. 2 potatoes scones, lorne slice tiny amount of beans, egg and no bacon. Turns out the chef forgot to put that on the plate. Toast was not toasted. All these things might not seem important to some people but I genuinely couldn’t fault anything on our last visit. i think a little more tlc is needed altogether. Mainly the customer service. Checking your customers aren’t waiting to long and they have everything they need, not snapping at customers who are asking for help, and maybe an extra member of staff in helping the chef plate up the food so it’s acceptable to the customer.

This hotel needs updating. We have stayed in a sister property in Amsterdam and loved that hotel so we were excited about our stay in Glasgow. We were disappointed. The hotel is very "tired" The carpet and furnishings were stuck in the 1980's. With lots of stains and chipped woodwork. The lounge on the top floor was poorly furnished and not well stocked. We would not stay here again unless the property is refurbished. On a positive note the location is good for all kinds of sightseeing.
