We only stayed for two nights, but wish we had stayed for longer. Our room was huge, clean, and had everything we needed (plus more - chocolates and whisky provided by Aileen). The location was great for us. It was very close to the haymarket train station for trains in/out of town and the tram/bus to the airport, but still...

The owner (Aileen) is the Best! Perfect hostess in that she is conversational, but does not overstay her welcome. Her food was delicious, and the breakfast room was available 24 hours a day (we used the refrigerator for sodas). She recommended a wonderful Indian restaurant nearby that we walked to and the food was outstanding. It is very difficult to...

Aileen was the ultimate hostess! My daughter and I spent 3 nights there this week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We took the tram in from the airport and it works wonderfully. Just a short walk from Haymarket to the townhouse. We walked from there to Princes and High Street, got lost a few times but always found the way....

Beautiful townhouse with separate basement entry to bedrooms. Close walking distance to rail station, restaurants, quick-carry grocers, and bus stops. Best of all is Aileen! Aside from gorgeous themed rooms with en-suite bathrooms (ours was African themed with a fireplace), sitting lounge and welcoming Scotch whiskey and chocolates, the breakfasts are full service Scottish breakfasts cooked by Aileen herself. I...

My family of four stayed in two rooms this May for a 3-night stay and simply can't say enough positive things about The Victorian Town House. Staying with Aileen is like staying with your favorite Auntie - the accomodations are fantastic, with large rooms, delicious Scottish breakfast and very convenient location. As stated in the title, there is a reason...

We spent a lovely three nights at this B&B in March. Aileen was very welcoming, the room was comfy and breakfast divine. The location was perfect being less than a 5 minute walk from Haymarket Station, and a 10-15 min walk to Princes Street and the Royal Mile. Aileen made us feel very welcome, and offered a huge variety of...

My mom, sister, and I stayed here for 3 nights during our time in Edinburg. It was a quick 5 minute walk from the train station and about 10 minutes from the center hub of downtown with the Castle,Royal Mile, and lots of shopping. The African room was perfect for the 3 of us since it had 2 beds. Aileen...

There is not much I can say about the Victorian Town House that has not already been said to add to the outstanding and glowing reviews that are so well-deserved. We stayed for a 3-day weekend in February on our first visit to Edinburgh, and chose the Victorian Town House based on glowing reviews. We were not disappointed! Location is outstanding:...

This was our 4th visit to this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. The three rooms are all well appointed, large and well heated, important for a mid winter visit to Edinburgh. The cooked breakfasts are delicious and prepared exactly how you want. There was a wide range of alternatives so on the second morning we sampled the fresh Scottish raspberries and...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
