Very cheap during the fringe festival, one of the cheapest within walking distance of the centre. The communal bathrooms were very nice! Beds were fine, room was a good size but we didn't spend much time there. Only real bad part was the lack of parking but found a place very near which charge £10 every 24 hours. Overall very...

Hi Thanks for your review. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us at The Hostel. Parking in the city center is often very difficult, especially during the Fringe, however, we are glad you found one of the cheaper car parks nearby. Please come back and see us soon. Thanks The Hostel

The Hostel was the perfect place to stay for our weekend getaway! The rooms were very clean, the atmosphere was fun and welcoming, and the staff was so friendly and helpful- especially Helen and Adam! I would recommend this location to all my friends. This was very close to all the major attractions in the city and easy to travel...

The hostel itself is very well situated in the vacubity of the Haymarket station. On check in we were greeted by friendly staff. The rooms were clean and the atmosphere was nice. The lounge area offered a good place to relax with a functioning pool table and tv. The toilets and shower areas could have been kept cleaner. But still...

For what you pay I have no real issues with this place at all. Came as a stag do had the 16 bed dorm booked for us all. Room was basic but was clean. Could have done with more toilet facilities on that floor but there isn't a lot of space. It's location is ideal. Would I bring the wife....

Staff are so friendly and helpful. Rooms clean - basic but comfortable. Loads of facilities available in the hostel. Continental breakfast available. Met some lovely people too during my stay. This is a great place to stay with superb links to all the transport networks in Edinburgh - but in an area that's not too busy / noisy.

Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. They allowed us to store our suitcases at there location while we were off sightseeing for a few days which was greatly appreciated. Rooms and bedding were clean, showers and bathrooms were ok. Located directly on the public bus route which was important to us. We enjoyed our stay.

This hostel is in convenient situation in Edinburgh. You could walk Waverley station. Or get a bus which stops just accross two streets from The Hostel. Easily seen. It was nice and clean and the hostess was very helpful in trying to do bookings for me.

Stayed here for 1 night only but, my stay here was just okay. PROS: 1. This hostel is very easy to find. When I got off the bus in Haymarket, right across, I saw it. 2. Have kitchen. Can cook and have free coffee and tea. 3. Toilets are okay. Mixed. For female and male but, each shower have enough...

I'm actually currently here. Probably checking out early because there are 7 beds crammed into a tiny room, it's hot, stuffy, smells awful and there's no way anyone other than the 2 guys snoring are getting any sleep tonight. It's cheap and right by the train station but you get what you pay for I guess. The staff has all...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
