Our stay was above the expectations. Clean and cosy room. Very good and abundant breakfast, perfect after a night spent walking by the royal mile and its precious pub. Thanks to David, Always kind and smiling. Just would like to go back to Scotland!

Visited here for a little weekend break with my wife and two of our friends. This is the second time we have stayed here, the first being around 9 years ago. In that time there have been some changes, all for the good. The rooms are comfortable, up to date and well equipped. David and Katy are great hosts and...

If you don't want to stay in a clone hotel but want somewhere both very friendly and characterful then try this place. As other reviews have noted, there are a lot of steps involved, so save some energy from your day out in the city for the final climb to your room. The rooms we had were spacious and comfortable...

This is a lovely B&B owned by a young couple who have taken great pains to modernize this lovely flat and provide comfortable spacious rooms. Be forewarned though that if you cannot handle stairs, this might not be the place for you, since it is a bit of a walk up. That said it is well worth climbing the steps...

My Granny and I took a lovely trip up to Edinburgh and found this b&b to be wonderful! The owners were extremely friendly, the rooms spacious and clean, and breakfast served just downstairs. Would definitely stay here again!

I visited 53 Frederick Street last autumn for the very first time and this accommodation was definitely the best B&B I have visited so far in Edinburgh. During my stay (2 nights) David made sure I felt absolutely comfortable. At Rick’s Restaurant directly next door you can enjoy an excellent full Scottish breakfast or also a classic continental breakfast. The...

This B&B was just perfect! Location is really good, it took us just a few minutes to get to Princess street and a few more minutes to get to the castle. Hosts David&Katy were just lovely and really helpful. Breakfast was good, it was at Rick´s which is a restaurant downstairs, it had various choices of food and juice, coffee...

We only stayed for one night while we explored Edinburgh, but it was a fantastic stay. The hosts were happy to have us leave our luggage in the main sitting room so that we could have one less hassle that day, and they gave us a nice map of the city and multiple recommendations - for places to eat, sites...

Overall, great location for those of us attempting to do Europe on a slight budget. Spacious rooms and restrooms in New Town walking distance from restaurants and pubs. Took us about 20 minutes to talk to Edinburgh Castle and the rest of old town. Pretty easy even for my little legs. There was a Laundromat about 20 minutes walk as...

Stayed at no.53 on Boxing Day evening. Lovely welcome from the hosts who couldn't have done more to make us feel at home. Well appointed and very comfortable room. Ideal base for exploring the city. Highly recommended.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

No. 53 Frederick Street, bed and breakfast in Edinburgh is perfectly situated in the very heart of the city centre, providing a magnificent yet unique spacious central home to explore Edinburgh, separated from Edinburgh Castle only by the Gardens! The Edinburgh B&B accommodation is an original Georgian townhouse situated on the second and third floors, that dates from circa 1820, and many of the original features have been carefully retained.
