My daughter (8) and I visited this hotel recently as part of a Christmas treat to see Wicked. (PS The Playhouse is literally a 1 minute walk away across 1 set of traffic lights!) The room we had was a great size. It was very clean and cosy. Plenty of good lighting for make up. Lovely power shower. Comfy beds...

Hubby and I stayed here last Friday as we were off to see Wicked at the Playhouse across the road. Location is perfect. Plenty of pubs and eating places around. We had a room at the back which was great because I think the noise level from the road at the front would have been a bit much. Room was...

We stayed here for 3 nights to have a long weekend in Edinburgh. This hotel is a short walk from the station and within easy access of all the main attractions. The room was small, but perfectly formed. We had enough room to store our belongings and everything was clean. Don't expect wardrobes and drawers or biscuits with the tea/coffee...

I did an overnight stay here with friends recently - we had Christmas shopping and a trip to the Playhouse on the agenda. This place was convenient for the city centre, restaurants and the theatre and well-priced too. Check-in wasn't until 2 but the friendly reception staff took our bags and stored them for us so we could hit Princes...

A good hotel in the centre of Edinburgh. Rooms very clean (wifes 4 in a bed test), and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and we also got an on site car park, there are only 9 spaces so we counted ourselves lucky. The breakfast was ok, if a little bit busy, with everything fresh and tasty. There...

I stayed here with my 14 year old daughter because we were visiting the playhouse. The location of the hotel was brilliant, just 5 mins walk from Waverley Station and near all the shops. Room was clean and acceptable but breakfast was very poor. We ventured down at 8.30 and every table was full. It also took some time to...

Dear Polly, Thank you for your review, our breakfast can become very busy especially at full occupancy and peak times, we often recommend to our guests to come earlier or later if they want to avoid the busier times, I hope however that despite this you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards, Gemma Vincent Sales Manager

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
