This hotel is in the ideal location for access to public transport. Trams and buses run right past, and it is only a 10 minute walk to Waverly Station. Handy for shops and city centre attractions, and easy walking distance to Stockbridge. Also 2 mins walk to the stop for the bus that takes you to Edinburgh Zoo. Plenty of...

Just got back from 2 nights here and had a great time. The hotel far exceeded our expectations in terms of staying in a chain establishment. We arrived at 11am, check in not til 2pm but we were able to leave our luggage in a secure room. Same when we were leaving as we had a 3 hour wait between...

Stayed overnight here with the family. Great room - comfortable, clean and spacious with a view of the playhouse and omni centre. Bathroom was absolutely spotless. Staff were pleasant especially Samantha who was really nice and full of information. Breakfast was fine - kids enjoyed it - if they're happy - we are too! Would definitely stay here again.

This is a good Holiday Inn because it is an old hotel with a little character, the rooms are pretty standard but comfortable. The breakfast was better than I expected it was good food that would set you up for the day the only complaint would be that it was the same every day. I would definately come back to...

Stayed here for a couple of weeks on business at the end of January. It's right opposite the Playhouse and cinema complex and is surrounded by bars and restaurants with a little Tesco Express next door but one. Very handy! Breakfast is typical of the budget hotel chain supplying all your regular cold foods plus sausages, scrambled eggs and beans....

I have stayed at a few and this is not your usual Holiday Inn Express: and old building, with a pillar in the middle of the bedroom. Same furnishings though (fairly spartan) and for a HIX, an above average breakfast selection. Great location. I would use again.

This hotel is excellent value for money! Rooms are basic and clean with a comfortable bed although the walls are thin! The hotel is in a brilliant location about a 5 minute walk from Waverley train station! We used the sight seeing bus tours to see Edinburgh a cracking city with lots of history. The bus stop was a 10...

Beautifull town, and very good location, tram to airport is just meters away from hotel. The hotel is in an old building with creacking floors. As mentioned in earlier feedbacks, there is no airconditioning system, inly electrical heaters in the room. The bathroom is clean, the room tidy, but again quiet old looking. But all together just fine for me....

Dear Simon, Thank you for your review I am so sorry to hear of the issues with the lights within your room, this is certainly not a normal standard for our hotel. Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
