We found the place, but could not stop out the front. Car park around the back with very difficult access and then we had to drag luggage up the rear lane and around the corner to the front door as there was no rear access. Took a while before front door was answered and when it finally was we felt...

I visited this guest house with my husband & was quite worried after reading previous reviews! All I will say is, you get what you pay for! Yes the room was dated & a little "rough around the edges". However, at £32 a night, close to Edinburgh city centre & with free WIFI & parking I was pleasantly suprised! During...

Heard the saying 'You get what you pay for?' That's exactly what you get with The Ivy Guest House. Not due to set off to SCOTLAND until 9am the next morning we decided instead to leave the night before at 5pm due to nice weather and we arrived at 10pm in Scotland. We already had a 2 nights stay booked...

The room was not properly cleaned. The bedsheets and Duvet covers were full of some kind of fibres or cat hair and at one point I noticed a blood stain. The shower made this horribly loud sound. The bathroom was not en suite which was awkward. when we entered the hotel it was smelled of oily food. The stairs were...

I'd booked this as it was in a reputable guide and had parking and I wanted to avoid a chain hotel. First there was no one at the guest house on arrival, high ceilings don't excuse a cramped room for three, and as for the parking - well if I was driving a Hillman Imp, there was room. I baulked...

They say first impressions are paramount. These people need a lesson. The garden was overgrown and hadnt been tended to for at least a year. It wasn't to get any better. Given a room without en suite. The bathroom was across the hallway. We asked for a quiet room and was given one on the road side. The place was...

The guest house is close to a bus station. When we arrived a bit earlier before check-in, the room was ready and the lady owner let us in just by a phone call, which was nice. At first, we felt like walking in a nice 'vintage' hotel. Yes, the furniture was old and looked stylish indeed! However, it was very...

The pictures do not accurately reflect the standard of the property. This is much more a "hostel" type standard of accommodation than a B&B - and there was no breakfast. There was damp and mould in the bedroom and more so in the bathroom. As the wind blew outside, it then whistled through the room. It was certainly not somewhere...

When we arrived there was no one to check us in. The room was very dirty, but the bathroom quite clean. The staff was not helpful or kind and I had to call them 4 times in order to fix the heating. The first night we had frozen. Unacceptable.

To start with, yes I know this is a guest house, not a hotel, but that doesn't mean you still shouldn't have a decent level of standards. When we arrived, there was no one to greet us, or check us in, we had to use a outside telephone to ring someone who told us our keys were behind the door....
