Good sized, comfortable room with a small bathroom with a shower over the bath. The only problem with the room was that it was quite cool, that was probably mainly due to the fact that it was a very cold weekend in Edinburgh but just a shame that the heating never quite managed to fully heat the room. All the...

We stayed here only 1 night and were very pleased with this hotel. Check in starts at 3pm and we arrived very early, midday, but were asked to take a seat in the bar and our rooms would be ready in 20 mins. The bar prices are very reasonable and was clean, and modern . True to their word 20...

well furnished rooms and great service and breakfast it didn't bother me as I am used to street noise as I live on a main road - however noise of buses and traffic might irritate if you have a room at front of hotel so ask for one at the back instead :) would stay again

Lovely hotel with great breakfast but while our 4th floor rooms were clean and tidy, they were dark and cold. Provided with blankets and heater but still very chilly. Welcome cookie contained nuts so couldn't eat as have nut allergy and we're made to feel very unwelcome in the bar on Saturday evening as staff were using the seats for...

We had a gorgeous two night stay here. The room itself was lovely and the staff were so helpful. The warm welcome cookie was delicious. The rooms are spotless and very cosy. The bar was great with a large choice of cocktails. The hotel is in a great location, with a lovely walk up to the castle. However if you're...

We stayed at the Doubletree for four nights in early January and had a very nice time. Our Castleview room on the fourth floor had a lovely unobstructed view of the castle. The room itself was a nice size though not overly big. We did however expect this for a city center Edinburgh hotel. The bathroom was compact yet very...

Large Hilton in the centre of Edinburgh ideally placed for work or tourism. Rooms are a decent size, very comfortable bed, bathrooms good enough. Clean throughout and excellent customer service. Only thing I miss there is a swimming pool.

While most of the staff was pretty "blah" (with the exception of the gracious Annabel), this hotel is well worth considering. Great location for old and new towns. Nice to have a true king sized bed as opposed to the all too usual DOUBLE. Would stay here again without hesitation.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
