Just back from an overnight stay to visit the Christmas market. Prebooked an upgrade but found the room shabby (room 4). Indeed the whole hotel is badly in need of refurbishment. Would not stay here again. We visit Edinburgh regularly but booked this deal via Living Social. I stayed in the Premier Inn just a couple of months ago and...

Firstly thank you for taking the time to leave us some much valued feedback for your recent stay. i do apologise that you were disappointed and found your room basic. Our bar is a quiet bar for residents but we find most of our guest want to be out in the city for dinner and drinks. Mice pies and mulled...

Lovely old hotel, full of character. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. Room 22 was spacious and comfortable but the ledge behind the bed was very dusty and the bathroom was in need of updating. However it was good value for money and we would happily return. Excellent location for all attractions.

The location of this hotel in in the center off Edinburg is perfect. The hotel is a bit outdated and needs some modernization. The room was specious and very clean, no complains there. The breakfast was also very good. Check in good be better. But the price is very reasonable, so it is actually great value for money! Will book...

The staff at this hotel were very good, pleasant , polite and helpful. It is looking a bit aged and could do with refurbishment, especially the shower room. There was little bits of ''paper rubbish'' on floor in bedroom, so obviously not been vacuumed properly. But over all for a one night stop it suited us, it was on groupon...

Think we picked the wrong Thistle hotel. Recently stayed for one night to visit the Xmas market and found the hotel to be too far from the centre for us to walk. The bedroom we had Manor Suite was spacious and the bed was comfortable but the curtains on the very large window had seen their day they were ripped...

Used a Groupon offer. The hotel is part of a period built row of stone buildings. Very welcoming from the outside. Staff friendly and helpful. Despite asking not to have a basement room, that is where we were located. However, room was very nice, clean and comfortable. The only slight downside is there was evidence of water damage near Bath...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
