We Stayed at Gerald's Place in July 2007 for 3 nights. We had a lovely stay and received a very warm welcome. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious. Gerald made us feel very welcome and was an excellent host. The location was fantastic for the city centre.

We always like to stay in small B&B's because of the kind and personal treatment you receive, the homely decoration and the cleanness. Gerald's place was absolutely up to our high demandings! The house is very nice with a lot of pictures on the wall, Gerald and his sister (who looked after us two days) are very kind, like to...

Gerald's Place is without a doubt the most comfortable B&B I have ever stayed in. The rooms are clean and the beds are superb. Gerald, the host, gives you everything you could possibly wish to know about what to do in Edinburgh, and is extremely gracious and charming. The breakfast are entirely organic, and he has travelled all over the...

I used Trip Advisor to find a spot in Edinburgh, Gerald's Place had the best reviews, so I booked for 3 nights. When I called Gerald to confirm our reservation we ended up chatting like old friends and he gave me some very helpful advice since we were arriving early in the morning after an overnight flight that landed in...

My son and I stayed at Gerald's for 11 nights in May 2007. From the very beginning Gerald and his sister Gloria made you feel very welcomed. Breakfast eash morning was wonderful with several selections of juice, fresh fruit, cereals, tea or coffee and toast along side a cooked entree which Gerald or Gloria would prepare with such care. The...

We arrived a bit later than expected (traffic and not from the area!) and were greeted with a warm welcome. At Gerald's Place, Gerald is in the details. His BNB is lovely with fantastic art from all over the world and always an interesting conversation at breakfast. Whatever he needed, we were given it with a smile. Directions, restaurant recommendations,...

My wife and I had a great stay with Gerald and Gerald's Place. We used Trip Advisor's recommendations as we planned our Scotland trip and was not disappointed at any of our B&Bs. Yet, Gerald's Place clearly stands out as the best of the four places we stayed in during our visit. Gerald happily greeted us at his door after...

My parents, sister and I stayed four night's at Gerald's while touring Scotland and could not have had a warmer welcome. Everything we could imagine was provided and thoughtfully taken care of, including helping my sister find a yoga class to attend. One could not ask for a better location than Abrocromby Place which is just two blocks down from...

My husband and I had a great stay at Gerald's! From the moment we arrived it seemed like he had known us forever. We came in early that morning and it was raining and dreary, however he helped make it better with a cup of hot coffee and organic mueslix and fresh berries with yogurt. Yum! Then he helped us...

Great Location for this welcoming Edinburgh B & B which is so close to everything. Gerald's Place is crammed full of pictures, magazines, and DVDs (which you can play in your room for free). The breakfast is lovely and everything seems to have been thought of, including providing a free bottle of wine! The bedsheets were the softest I'd ever...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
