We just returned from a week's stay at Gerald's Place. We echo the sentiment of every Trip Advisor reviewer: Gerald's Place is THE place to stay when you're visiting Edinburgh. From the moment we stepped out of the cab and into his home there was an immediate sense of ease and comfort that we weren't expecting. It only added to...

It is hard to come up with new words of praise for this wonderful B&B, since everyone else seemed to love it as much as we did. In fact, it was reading all the wonderful reviews that caused me to book it before i had even made our travel arrangements! My husband and I spent a week here during the...

We stayed there for 2 nights and enjoyed every moment. The rooms are very comfortable and the bed made me make changes in mine after I returned from the trip. Breakfasts were scumptuous, healthy and abundant. We were given lots of "insider" recommendations of what and how to do in Edinburgh; and choice of restaurants that has been provided was...

This was our first time in Edinburgh and Gerald took all the worry out of it. Besides making us feel most welcome to his establishment he took the trouble to tell us about his lovely city and tell us of the most important activities and how to go about it all. His advice made it so easy for us to...

I chose Gerald's Place based on TripAdvisor reviews, and was not disappointed! It is ideally located on a quiet Georgian street within walking distance of Princes Street and the Royal Mile. This is a lovely B&B, a private home that Gerald has made very welcoming to visitors. Gerald provided us with valuable information prior to our stay. (Pay special attention...

Gerald's place is a lovely place to stay, full of charm, the room was downstairs below street level , ran by a senior, well spoken, English Gentleman.. There was a wealth of local information in the room, books and brochures on what to do in Edinburgh and beyond. The walls of this delightful home are similar to a mini- Art...

From the moment my 15-year old son and I arrived, Gerald opened his home and his heart to us. He not only showed us our room with incredibly comfortable beds with fabulous comforters, tea and hot chocolate makings, and organic milk and shortbread biscuits but he also gave us the information necessary to make the most of our 4 days...

It goes without saying that the accommodations were first rate. The king size bed (or 2 twins) was very comfortable, the room very clean and well cared for, thanks to Marie and Magda. It had all the amenities one could need, including the use of a computer laptop. This B&B is very centraly located, yet on a lovely, quiet neighborhood...

My friend and I stayed with Gerald for 3 nights towards the end of July. His hospitality and the comfort of his bed and breakfast made my stay in Edinburgh very memorable. We had a twin room (2 beds) with tempurpedic pillows, awesome mattresses, warm down blankets, tea service, TV, hair-dryer (so I didn't need my own converter) and best...

We stayed here for three nights in July 2007. Great location - was able to walk to everything we wanted to do. Lots of nice extras including a bottle of wine, free use of laptop (and internet), videos and DVD's. Breakfasts of your choice of Scottish favorites and lots of good attraction information. Very comfortable and clean. With only two...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
