We stayed for 3 nights for a special occasion. The hotel was disappointing and very average for the prices being charged. The building itself is actually on the university campus next to the Halls of Residence. This wasn't made clear on the booking - we were disturbed every night by noisy students returning to campus. The suite was nicely decorated but several things let it down - the mattress was really soft, the toilet paper was the thinnest I've ever come across, no full length mirror in the room, no where to put toothbrushes, no where to put toiletries in the shower, terrible lighting for applying makeup, no locks on the windows, no fridge, could hear noise of people walking in rooms above and corridors and room above using the shower etc. The hotel itself was no more than an expensive Travelodge. Zero service, no acknowledgement from reception staff when coming or going, no bar despite it being advertised (there is basically a help yourself mini bar in one of the main rooms with overpriced mini bottles). Breakfast was a complete shambles. The dining room is too small to accomodate the number of guests so you are expected to wait in an adjoining room until a table comes available, we found this completely unacceptable especially when we had activities planned for the day. We ended up having to go into town to find somewhere for breakfast each day. The location is ok but too far to walk into town, you need to drive or get taxis. Parking is very limited outside the hotel and additional parking is situated all over the campus. Advertises itself as a luxury hotel - I would say it aspires to be but it really isn't. Much better hotels in Edinburgh for similar or cheaper rates. We won't stay again.

We're truly sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations, and we apologise for the inconveniences you encountered during your special occasion. Our guests' comfort is a top priority, and we're actively exploring ways to minimize any disturbances caused by external factors. Regarding the suite, we apologise for the shortcomings you mentioned. We appreciate your feedback on various aspects, such as the mattress comfort, amenities provided, room functionality, and the overall room experience. We're revisiting our service protocols to ensure a smoother experience for our guests, especially during peak hours. Regarding the location and parking challenges, we regret that this impacted your overall experience. We acknowledge the limitations and inconveniences faced and are exploring ways to provide more comprehensive guidance for transportation options and parking availability. Beautiful location for those looking for old world charm. The building is historically significant, the gardens which surround the building look like something out of a post card. Arthurs seat can be seen in the background. The front desk was very responsive, from helping with all our luggage, to running up to our room UK plug adapters when our weren't working. There is on site parking, the honesty bar and lounge were a great experience. The morning breakfast is a must, make sure you add it to your stay. There is no lift but they have main floor rooms. Everyone we met was great.

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young person who said “let me get the door for you”. Checking in was painless even though we arrived an hour early. We set ourselves up in the lounge and introduced ourselves to the Honesty bar. It was stocked well and all you had to do was to note what you had taken and let the reception know. My list was presented at the end of our stay and charged accordingly. We didn’t need to take our cases up to the room as these were taken for us. Just as well as I have trouble breathing and would not have been able to make the 2 floors or stairs in one piece with cases. The room was a junior suite and once I had turned the radiators on and the heating up it soon became very cosy. The bed was one of the most comfortable I had slept in for a long time and I had the most delightful sleep. The bathroom was huge and the only niggle we had here was put the rain shower head straight and you could have flooded the whole wet room. As it was we used a towel to stem the flow so all was good. Probably the only thing that let the whole experience down was the food. It was definitely not of the standard I would have expected from such a lovely venue. Breakfast was sparse and arrived cold and the evening meal in the scholar was a disaster. I would definitely stay here again as the staff could t be more helpful, lovely and polite. But next time I will definitely eat in town. .

The room we had was very generous in size and the bathroom was cavernous! Beautifully equipped and quite quiet for where it is located. If I were to have a 'niggle' it would be that breakfast was not included in what was a not insubstantial nightly rate. Other wise it was a lovely experience.

We stayed here for 4 nights on a trip to Scotland, and it’s doubtless one of the most aesthetically pleasing hotels we’ve stayed at in the UK. The decor and architecture are gorgeous, and the “red room” is a delightful lounge to sit in on the ground floor and chat or read a book. This includes an honesty bar where you self-serve drinks and then notify reception of what you’ve consumed, so it can be added to your final bill. There is a price list and the staff regularly top up an ice bucket. The hotel staff were all very pleasant and accommodating, and one in particular (Norbert I believe his name was but can’t be certain) was fantastic and couldn’t do enough to make our stay as nice as possible. The room was a little on the small side for an executive double but the bed was comfortable and the shower room was lovely. The hotel is situated around 20-30 minutes walk from the main city centre attractions but Edinburgh has a very good bus service and there’s a stop right outside the hotel, so this wasn’t a problem. Also, Arthur’s Seat is situated right behind the hotel so if you stay here, be sure to head up there and grab an incredible view of the city. N.B. It’s probably worth mentioning that this hotel is situated on the University of Edinburgh grounds, as prior to visiting I read other reviews that were shocked by this.

Walking distance to the city centre with secure parking at the hotel. Tea and coffee facilities with a small bar in the lobby and the breakfast was very good. Smallest 300.00 dollar room I have ever stayed. The king size bed is a little bigger than a twin size bed. No where to open suitcase except in front of bathroom door. Then can’t get to bathroom. Way overrated for price . Looks nothing like advertisement on website.

We may well have only stayed one night, but The Scott really left an impression on us both. We arrived at the hotel through the University which had us feeling very nervous but by the time we arrived at the hotel our fears were well and truly allayed as it it stunning. All the old worldly charm wrapped up in stunning modern world touched and comfort. We were met by the fabulous Leyton who actually made our stay as we arrived very grumpy and bedraggled but he had us in stitches within minutes, then went on to sort everything we needed for the rest of the night. The lady the following morning was less friendly but was helpful so we couldn’t complain. The one area that could be flagged up for constructive criticism is the food……the scrambled eggs for breakfast looked like they had been waving the white flag of surrender for quite some time, and Our meal in the Scholar was mediocre at best.

This was a great hotel – stayed mid-Junish…wish there was an elevator but that’s an unrealistic request…LOL…clean, spacious, traditional…but what sets this great hotel apart from others are the remarkable staff…the night staff person who first helped us (David) was extraordinary…he went way outta his way to accommodate my requests – outstanding customer service. But the real jewel of “The Scott” was a breakfast staff member named Shannon. She delivered world class customer service and made our stay simply remarkable. Great hotel, great people & say hi to Shannon. 😊

I really don’t think their web site gives a true reflection of the hotel. Firstly the hotel is situated in the university ground (I had the impression that it stood in its own grounds) and whilst there is car parking very little of it is close to the hotel. The conversion of this grand old house into a hotel has been done poorly, they don’t even have a lift, and it has not been maintained very well at all. The staff do try but are pretty clueless about running a hotel.
