We booked with a 3rd party vendor, and clearly saw a notice of an inside room with no window, but frankly everything else around was so expensive we decided to to suck it up and booked anyway. We were thrilled to get a room overlooking the river and Belford bridge. We spent a week there and my only complaints were...

I have just returned from this hotel, and I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews. But for the price we paid, I thought " oh well ya get what you pay for. But!!! I found our room, clean and tidy, including the bathroom, hallways were clean and hovered, we had breakfast at £7.95 per person, which...

Room booked via booking.com. upgrade suggested, booked, confirmed. from 90 pounds to 105 pounds. arrived around midnight. room: yes. BUT: WITHOUT WINDOW. like a prison ... NO mention of that anywhere before - neither on booking.com´s confirmation nor on Britannia website that they even "offer" rooms WITHOUT windows. (btw: also the bathroom had NO window). my conclusion: AVOID forever

The hotel is in a great location 15 minutes walk to the centre and yet far enough away for it to be quiet. Be aware when booking it says it has parking you still need to pay for it at approx £5 a day which is cheap compared to other cities. There are a couple of open parking places across...

I stayed here to travel up the The Open, so we didn't need much. And for £95 in the middle of Edinburgh during The Open, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm a regular business traveller, so i wasn't expecting 4* or 5* service. If you take the time to talk to the staff they are nice and friendly and very helpful,...

Upon arriving at the Britannia, the phrase "you get what you pay for" came to mind. We got 3 nights for £176 which isn't bad going, but definitely felt afterwards that considering the condition of the hotel, myself and my brother felt overcharged. Anyway, we entered our room and was happy with the layout and it was quite spacious, but...

If you are looking for an unclean hotel with terrible, inedible food, look no further. Dirty, filthy...made my skin crawl. Mold everywhere. Carpet was grossly dirty. The dishes in the restaurant were greasy from the previous meal(s). Even though the cost of the room included our dinners and breakfast, I had to go out to eat since the food was...

No complaints about the cost of an overnight stay here. It is a Budget hotel but surely the windows could be cleaned occasionally instead of being dirty and streaked? The location on the edge of the city centre is good. Several years ago (when it was a Travelodge) we walked back here from the Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle because we...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
