Located in Edinburgh’s city centre is the Crowne Plaza Edinburgh – Royal Terrace with stunning views towards the Firth of Forth. The hotel is part of an impressive terrace of prestigious Georgian townhouses with many of the original features. We have recently undergone a renovation. Each space at the Royal Terrace has been sympathetically designed to achieve a fine balance of modernity and tradition. A Celtic thread weaves through the interiors, with subtle indigenous design motifs informing the design narrative. Thistles motifs and highland wall linings provide cultured Hibernian undertones to the lounge bar. The restaurant provides a refined contemporary setting drawing inspirations from Edinburgh’s royal botanical gardens, sunflower walls and an alfresco feel provide a light, bright atmosphere which compliments the darker, amber tones of the adjacent lounge, lobby and bar. Our rooms are warm and contemporary creating a relaxing space for your Edinburgh stay.

The room we had was beautiful and in a quiet area. The public areas were beautifully decorated and furnished. The best aspect was the staff, every one of them dedicated to making customers feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble, every one of them gifted in customer service

I accept that COVID-19 has changed things, but to do to an upmarket hotel in the IHG brand and have this experience is just unacceptable. In November 2019 we booked a Club room at great expense for four days during the Edinburgh Festival. When the festival was cancelled, unlike other hotel groups, IHG offered no flexibility or any reduced tariff. - On arriving at the hotel we discovered that the Club lounge had been closed in January (before COVID); we had not been advised and this was a key reason for paying such a high tariff. - The breakfast menu was extremely limited, the food was of poor quality and the service was slow despite requiring guests to have a timed breakfast slot. We stopped going. - Staffing was so low that wait times at the bar could be excessively long. - Evening restaurant service was suspended. Complaints fell on deaf ears. IHG refuses to address my concerns and my request for a refund on account of the services not provided and the hotel does not communicate despite IHG telling me that it will (repeatedly). It is very evident that IHG does not value its long standing customers. I even have Prestige membership of their club. I will not be using IHG again anywhere in the world and would advise anyone else from doing so too. We did feel sorry for the skeleton staff that had to work in such a situation and their did try their best.

Not our choice, but as a gift ‘meal for two’ - on arrival it was clear that there was a shortage of staff, as we had to find the restaurant..... disappointing to say the least and first impression was of a basic cafe. Set menu looked promising with plenty to choose from, off to a good start with a nice starter. We both chose the ribeye steak for mains - not sure what we got but it wasn’t what we ordered; tasteless, insipid looking piece of ‘meat’ - and cold. After waiting a ridiculous amount of time, had to ask for our dessert to which the young man serving had to check that we were having from a set ‘3 course menu’ - Two members of staff to cover both inside & out, the waitress apologised as we were leaving; assured her was not down to her. Would I visit again - no.
