The hotel, staff and facilities were amazing. The rooms are extremely clean (no signs of limescale or dirt in the toilet/bathroom), or marks on soft furnishings.
Everything is well presented. The design of the hotel is lovely and there’s a lot of seating areas around the hotel.
Eve restaurant is lovely for breakfast. A menu is provided upon arrival to order from the kitchen and there’s a buffet in the middle with a small sized continental breakfast options. The commons club bar is nice, but very expensive - two rum and cokes cost £19! The location is really good, it’s an easy walk to anywhere and if you bring baggage, you can have your taxi drop off/pick up at the door to unload the bags. But there’s no parking near the hotel if you drive. The hotel to provide a ticket at the end of your stay to receive a discount on parking for St James’ Quater car park. Friday - Sunday overnight parking cost £30 rather than £48.

My only criticism is the £30 birthday package. I paid for this and received a blue ‘Happy Birthday’ banner that you can buy for £1 at any birthday shop/ supermarket and x3 grey balloons on the bed. I also received a hand written card from the staff which was lovely and a box of chocolates but none of it adds up to £30. After doing some research about the package (which I should’ve done before my stay), I’ve read that people received all of this for free when letting the hotel know in their special requests when booking. I expected balloons spelling ‘Happy Birthday!’ in theme with the hotel at least! Honestly, I’ve had better birthday packages which I’ve received for free/ paid for at 3/4 star hotels.

Overall the stay was really good!

Fabulous new hotel just off the Royal Mile. Stunning Victorian building which has been beautifully updated to combine with modern luxury. We stayed in a Grand Chamber King which had a lovely separate dressing/shower area. Bed was so comfortable and room incredibly quiet with no street noise thanks to great sound proofing. Very well stocked mini bar in Smeg fridge.
The Commons Club was lovely for pre-dinner drinks. Beautiful surroundings and the bar staff were very friendly and made great cocktails. Food at dinner and breakfast was amazing! Everything was made with the freshest ingredients and staff were both friendly and professional.
Can’t wait to go back!

This is such a beautiful hotel, behind the shiny red door is a labyrinth of spacious rooms, stylish design and cosy bars.
Our room was perfect for 3 and contains lots of lovely touches. The shower is straight from a very high end spa and the separate areas for sleeping and dressing make it easy to share the space.
The breakfast was delicious and the location could not be more perfect, especially for the festival, just minutes from the castle, Royal Mile, George Square and Princes St. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality, we didn't want to leave!

Bookers beware, whilst this venue is impeccably finished, in a great location and has a great ambience you WILL GET NO SLEEP!

We stayed here for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) and the noise from a neighbouring nightclub ruined our stay. This noise was a deafening bass until 3am) followed by an hour of drunken revellers shrieking as they left the venue.

I have been given fair compensation this morning when raising the issue politely, but I cannot recommend anyone else staying here until some soundproofing solution is in place (we were on 7th floor but it seems that multiple floors and sides of building are impacted).

Extremely disappointing and ultimately ruined our weekend (not being able to sleep until 4am meant we had to reschedule our itinerary completely and miss much looked forward to activities we had planned today)

I travel to Edinburgh quite a lot, roughly every 3 months and try and stay at a variety of places catering for all types of budgets. My stay at the Virgin Hotel in Edinburgh was possibly the worst night sleep I've had during my many visits.

I'll start with the good, the hotel is situated towards the top end of the Royal Mile, great for accessing a variety of tourist areas, the public areas of the hotel are very nicely presented and the staff very attentive.

The bad... The hotel is obviously far from finished, after walking through what looked like a building site to get to our room what greeted us sounded like a building site - we were basically staying in a building site. The room itself was very modern but basic, we opted for a balcony room which costs slightly more than the standard rate, let's just say you'd probably get a better view with any other room type. Any windows were blocked by spog covered panes of dirty glass, walking out into the balcony was like accessing a building site directly. The drilling could be heard reverberating throughout the room as though someone had a washing machine on top spin. The noise levels with the doors closed were just horrific; from the nightclub and the drunks at 3am, to the building work and traffic at 8am. If you're lucky you may just catch 5 hours sleep.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone - experience the public areas by heading in for a drink otherwise stay clear.

Simply a fantastic stay! Hotel is very well located right by the old town and castle. Check in is super fast especially if you do it via the Lucy app in advance. Staff are very friendly, warm and welcoming - nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are spacious are super comfortable, mini bar is well stocked with interesting brands both full size and miniatures at reasonable prices. Shower is huge and has full size toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, body & hand lotion, hand wash. Proper hairdyers and huge area to get ready and do your makeup. Gorgeous lobby areas where you can chill out and relax. Fantastic bar with amazing cocktails and a great restaurant too. Highly recommend.

This is one fabulous hotel. It looks very unassuming from the outside and is somewhat low key. If it wasn't for the Virgin branding on the door, you'd easily miss it.

Location wise it's fantastic, right in the middle of the Old Town tourist area and a fairly short walk (uphill!) from Waverley Station. It's only a couple of minutes stroll up to the castle or down to St. Giles Cathedral etc. The National Museum of Scotland is about a 5 minute walk away and Princes Street about a 10 minute walk.

The hotel is quite unlike any other hotel I've ever stayed at. The public areas are stylish and modern, it's really hard to put into words what it's like but think trendy but extremely well done and this is it.

The greeting at reception on checking in was warm and friendly. The lady checking me in was very chatty and obviously wanted to make sure guests got the best out of their stay and out of Edinburgh.

The accommodation was amazing. Whoever designed/project managed the chambers/interior is a genius. Everything has been thought of and I mean everything. Even the corridors were well designed and were super bright and airy with beautiful red doors. The attention to detail is really second to none. I loved the separate dressing area with separate rooms for the loo and the shower. The shower room even had a seating area. The toiletries were all wonderfully fragrant Arran Aromatics products which I loved. The bed was super comfy as was the bedding/pillows. The mini bar was extremely well stocked although I did not partake (prices of everything can be accessed via the TV). The TV was large and perfectly positioned for bedtime viewing!

My only criticisms: the kettle - it looked neat and stylish but was impractical and dripped when pouring. The price - out of season you're looking at around £185 a night and mid-festival/summer you're looking at about £550 a night which is crazy money, but this is Edinburgh! I certainly can't afford to be staying in the height of summer, but out of season I will most definitely stay here again. Absolutely first class.

One of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever stayed in.

The staff are a delight and can’t do enough for you (but not in a ‘I wish you’d leave me alone now’ kind of way).

Myself and my partner stayed for three nights / four days. Obviously parking can be a little difficult to come by but staff made us aware of a discounted parking price just a short walk away which made a big difference! The TV has guides on what to do in Edinburgh as well as a million other functions you didn’t realise you could do on a TV!

Normally I wouldn’t bother with the mini fridge in a hotel but it was stocked with thoughtfully chosen ‘local’ items that you couldn’t not treat yourself too while in Edinburgh - prices were obviously a little inflated but nothing ridiculous.

The room we stayed in was an amazing little home away from home that made us welcome in every way.

Edinburgh was an amazing trip and I wouldn’t think twice about rebooking with this hotel even if cheaper options were available. The location is literally the best spot you can get in town and every other penny spent staying here is worth it in my opinion. I looked at so many cosy Air BnBs etc that were just a short drive away and with parking etc but so happy I decided against it as we didn’t need the car once / left it in the car park since arriving.

We didn’t know the hotel was new when we booked but since staying there we’ve genuinely looked at other Virgin Hotel destinations are because the bar was set so high. We’ve got every confidence they’ll be just as amazing as Edinburgh but nevertheless we can’t wait to find out.

Honest review from two scousers that were super impressed by the hospitality and service of the Edinburgh Virgin Hotel :)

Absolutely stunning hotel in a perfect prime location. The ambience and attention to detail in this hotel made the stay so special and we wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else now we have tried virgin hotels. Staff are really welcoming and the rooms (chambers) are modern, spacious, & sound proof. The whole hotel felt like no expense had been spared with attention to detail throughout the whole hotel.
The Eve bar had a fantastic atmosphere even though it was very quiet when we went. Drinks are a bit expensive but you pay for the experience and it was worth it. We unfortunately didn’t try any food whilst there as there are so many places to eat straight outside but the only one thing I would suggest is the menus be looked at. I’m sure the food would be spectacular but there was nothing appealing on the menu. Some traditional homely foods would make dining something we would have definitely done at this hotel but it was a bit too fussy for us.
Overall a fantastic trip and hopefully we will be back in the future

Our trip was planned as a mother/daughter trip, but then my husband decided to tag along. This threw a curve ball into our planning, as hotels for 2 are easy, but adding a third becomes a challenge. Since it was fairly last minute, our choices were narrow. Fortunately for us, the Virgin Hotel Edinburgh had availability and rooms that they consider "family" rooms. This consisted of two rooms next to each other, each with separate doors, but an additional door beyond the two, allowing us to lock the external and leave the other two unlocked should a family member need mom or dad.

The rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds, seating areas, well lit bathrooms that provide shower and toilets separate from sink and dressing areas.

They provide free water and coffee and tea as well as a sweet treat. Other items are available for purchase. There is a small refrigerator in each room as well.

The hotel hosts two restaurants and a bar as well as a small library. All comfortable.

The location of this hotel is perfect. Royal Mile and Grassmarket are right there affording easy access to quaint shopping, great coffee shops and the Edinburgh Castle.

The only down side is the club located just down the street that spills out onto the street. If we hadn't been so tired, the noise may have been a problem, but we were able to sleep. Just something to think about.

We woud definitely stay here again!!

We parked in St Jame Quarter car park. I think it holds 1600 vehicles. Decent sized bays. It is about 10 mins walk. Off load the bags at check in, then take car to car park. On your departure reception give you a ticket which gives nearly 50% discount. We parked up at about 5pm on a Saturday and removed the car on Tuesday at about 1.30 pm and it cost £36.70 with the hotel discount. At the car park you put your initial ticket in the machine & then put in the hotel ticket and the discount is added. Hope this helps.
