We stayed for 2 nights at the Residence Inn in Edinburgh. The location in the Old Town was very convenient. The hotel is well situated to most of the main attractions, restaurants, pubs, etc. The hotel itself was very nice. The rooms were quiet, a good size and the bed was comfortable. The staff was pleasant and very helpful with...

This review is based on our vacation stay, however I think much of it would apply to the business traveler. The Residence Inn was in short a fabulous stay. The location is brilliant. Just a short 5-10 minute walk from the Royal Mile, but far enough to seem out of the hectic tourist area. Situated right next to the University...

Stayed for one night to visit the Christmas Markets in November and have a mini break in Edinburgh. Hotel was quite modern with very nice rooms including a kitchen. The buffet breakfast which was included as part of our stay was excellent, the hot food actually being hot and with a lot of variety. There isn’t a lot of table...

As a hotel I would give this place 4 stars. It is modern, clean, has a good buffet breakfast, is in a quiet location and convenient to a number of pubs and restaurants. The breakfast area can, though, get a bit hectic at peak hours, although the staff is very efficient at clearing. The staff is very helpful and accommodating....

We stayed here during the Edinburgh marathon running festival. Top quality hotel and facilities, great staff and ideally located and within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile. Highly recommend. The rooms are of a high standard with a small kitchen which is handy. Located amongst high quality modern apartments. This is a lovely part of Edinburgh.

I have been visiting this hotel on a monthly basis for more than a year. That's frequent enough to deserve a decent service but infrequent enough to pass unnoticed. New, well maintained hotel within walking distance of Royal Mile and other well known attractions in Edinburgh. Being near the University and The Meadows (beautiful, large park), it is nice to come back to this relatively quieter location to rest after a day of sightseeing. The front desk and other hotel staff are very accommodating. I'd stay here again.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
