If 3.5 stars were possible that would be the rating I’d give. The location is close to all major tourist sites and right at a tram stop, within an easy walk to Waverly Station for trains to sites farther out of town. Stairs at the entrance and stairs on our floor (the 4th) made handling our roller bags a hassle....

I searched for ages to find a good deal in Edinburgh. So glad Hotel Indigo popped up! It was good value, compared to the other hotels in Edinburgh. Very handy if you are flying in to Edinburgh; the tram runs from the airport to right outside the hotel. It is a short walk to the main attractions in the area,...

The hotel had an innovative design for rooms. The bed was comfortable, there is a work area, windows, decent bathroom, refrigerator that you can actually take things out of and it is included in the room! Front desk staff was fine, breakfast was "fairly" good. The internet is free but it cuts off after 200 megs...kind of useless really. Overall,...

We stayed here twice - before and after our tour of Scotland. Not cheap but worth it. Our first room was lovely, nicely decorated and quiet. We had breakfast both mornings which was good but fairly expensive. Tram from airport is so simple and easy to manage even with big bags. Our second room was even better than the first...

Stayed 5 days in early June here - the location is exactly at the end of the tram that runs from the airport so transport was a breeze - nearby pubs, supermarket and organic market a plus - the hotel is spread across several buildings - we stayed on the top floor with skylights in the bathroom and a great...

My husband and I recently stayed at the well located Hotel Indigo Edinburgh, and were very pleasantly surprised by this boutique hotel. Our tastefully decorated, spacious room (#310) with high ceiling and two large windows, had multiple USB charging stations next to the King bed and around the room. We received free minibar access, including endless sparkling and still water,...

This hotel is centrally located with a very convenient tram stop right in front of its doors. You can get there in about 35 minutes from the airport. When our large group arrived in the afternoon, check in was handled quite well despite many people standing around with their luggage. I had reserved an executive room but while checking in,...

Me & Wes stayed at Indigo Hotel again in Edinburgh. We won't stay anywhere else, as it's THE BEST HOTEL! The rooms are GREAT, the staff are FAB. The breakfasts are Mmmm!🍳 AJAY was once again so great at his job, very polite, helpful & professional. He always has a really nice manner. Also, Craig at the hotel bar was...

Very much an average city centre hotel. The staff on reception and the bar/restaurant were friendly and welcoming, however our room wasn't the cleanest, the bin wasn't emptied and there was some crispy orange peel laying around which had obviously been there a while. Other than that though the hotel wasn't bad. Only a short walk for the main bits...

Lovely hotel with friendly staff, nice rooms, & an amazing daiquiri! Breakfast was really nice - I especially liked the smoothies! Unfortunately let down by parking - has use of ncp parking which is badly designed and difficult to navigate. This parking arrangement is not made clear so we ended up paying for short term parking at a meter while...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
