Visited Edinburgh, Scotland; stayed at The Rutland, a small but lovely "boutique" hotel in a convenient location. Walking distance (about 10 minutes)from train station and hop-on tour buses. Although in downtown/shopping area, the room ("executive king") was clean, quiet, spacious, nice bathroom, good closet/drawer space, hair dryer. VERY friendly/helpful hotel staff!! They were efficient at check-in and out; gave great...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a lovely review of your recent stay with us. We especially appreciate you saying such complimentary descriptions of our staff and their customer service. Being a small boutique hotel, the personal touch and uninterrupted first class customer service is vital so, it's great to hear that you enjoyed your...

We recently had a lovely two night stay at the Rutland, a very conveniently located property within walking distance to most Edinburgh attractions. Reception staff greeted us warmly and even carried our bags to our room which was greatly appreciated as we don't pack light. It's so nice to have a positive experience from the minute you walk in the...

Stayed here for three nights over my 40th birthday weekend as something of a treat to mark the occasion. In a word, faultless. Whether it be the rooms, the decor, the styling, the staff, the service, the quietness, the friendless, the food - everything was spot on and made for the perfect weekend of celebrations. Would absolutely stay here again

A friend recommended this hotel and we booked it even though our Travel Agent had not heard of this property. It's a lovely boutique hotel on the corner of Prince's Street. The hotel is located on a curb from where you have great views of the Edinburgh Castle. The check in was very quick & the receptionist even helped us...

This was an amazing place to stay! We only stayed for 1 night in September 2015 but it was great. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The furnishings within the hotel reception and hall ways alone were lovely and added lots of personality! Our room was extremely spacious with lots of mod cons (Wifi, Coffee Machine, built in music...

This hotel epitomises 'boutique' to me - a few rooms in a character building, beautifully appointed bedrooms, gorgeous quirky decor throughout and friendly, personal service, romantic atmosphere . It is in a really central location to sites and shopping in Edinburgh and is just a few metres from a tram stop straight to the airport in 20 minutes. Great bar...

Thank you for taking the time to write such a terrific review of the Rutland since your recent stay. We are thrilled you enjoyed your time with us and enjoy the uniqueness and "boutiqueness" of the hotel! It's an often over used classification and we are pleased you see us firmly in that category. We are also really pleased that...

What a great boutique hotel in Edinburgh - great location, friendly staff and funky design - loved the over the top chandelier in our Castle View room. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
