We had an excellent stay. the staff was attentive and quickly addressed our problems with the wi-fi, the room was spacious with a charming view north to the Firth in the distance. Everything in the room was clean and taken care of. Be prepared for stairs that are very steep and challenging to climb. Breakfast was continental style with cold...

Nice hotel with good size room, plenty of tea coffee sachets Clean tidy hotel with friendly owner Super location to main attractions 10 min walk from Waverley station, lots of restaurants in local area, also local Tesco convenience store nearby, Down side breakfast was ok, but staff seemed slow to replenish items as much had gone by the time we...

I found this place great for breakfast and the appointments were all good. Location - excellent, not far from where you want to be in Edinburgh. We'd be back if it weren't for the red theme - My wife felt it was kinda like "The Shining" I'm happy there was no elevator !! lol Otherwise really good spot - recommend.

Thank you for your review. I can reassure you that we don't have any ghosts, which is kind of a shame for a historic building as ours. :) Hope you had a great time in Edinburgh.

Would defiantly come back, we stayed in the double room down stairs which was perfect for us, it wasn't to small, and it was very clean. The bed was really comfortable. The staff cleaned the room everyday while we were out. The bathroom was nice, loved the shower, it was amazing. We were provided towels which were watched daily if...

Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated. We will look into the WiFi signal issue for the room you described. Hope you had a lovely time in Edinburgh nonetheless.

I like Regent House Hotel: attentive staff, good WiFi, tasty breakfast. The tramstop to airport is situated nearby. Price for the room was modest. Room was quiet and bed was very convenient. When I return to Edinburgh, I will stay there again.

Wonderfully located, very attractive old world style hotel. Convenient to visiting all over the city, friendly staff and very quiet. Restaurants on the premises, bar service in the lobby, city maps available from front desk. Would definitely return if ever I get to go back to Edinburgh.

We stayed here for 3 nights in early April (2 adults, 3 children) and were very pleased. It's a 2 star so we were expecting basic but the room was lovely although lacking in storage - only 1 small wardrobe for 5 people. Unusually the family room had a king size and 3 single beds - very hard to find...

Do not recommend this hotel. Dirty room, dangerous stairs. The breakfast simple and poor. Beware the manager is unreasonable had to pay 150 pounds for the repair of the lock due to incorrect installation by the hotel. Have sent many email but no response. Avoid this bad hotel.

We spent a quick evening here and couldn't have been happier. We took advantage of the great deal by booking directly with the hotel on their website. When we arrived (a bit early in hopes of just dropping our bags to get out and explore), our room was ready and we were upgraded to a huge family room in light...

We stayed for 2 nights in March. The apartment is linked to the hotel but in a building 2 doors down. It is on the ground floor - the other floors are obviously peoples homes as the hallway if full of their stuff! Whilst the apartment was reasonably clean, it is in desperate need of renovation. There are sheets up...

Thank you for your feedback. Your opinion really matters to us. To prove how much, we renovated the apartment since your stay. The apartment is indeed a part of a building where others live, but this is the case with almost every self catering flat in Edinburgh. Hence we are not accepting stag and hen parties, and parties in general...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
