Booked Intercontinental The George Hotel Edinburgh for weekend 6 - 8th November for my birthday. This booking was made a few weeks in advance & an upgraded room selected via the hotel reservations desk. Today Thursday Nov.5th I go online to check on restaurant facilities, to discover a notice telling me the hotel has now CLOSED till Dec 2nd - co-incidentally in line with English lockdown. I received no communication at this point advising me my booking was cancelled and had to call & contact the hotel myself - staff were unapologetic & minimally helpful,I was told my booking was cancelled without apology, no explanation given for hotel closure, and no explanation why 24hrs before my reservation was about to commence I had not been contacted. We are all aware in Covid times that things can quickly change - but this was appalling service and abysmal lack of communication & customer care. We will not be booking at this hotel again - expected much better from the brand. Kathleen McElroy.…
We booked this a mixture of business and pleasure. We were extremely impressed with the hotel's COVID-19 and IHG clean procedures. We felt very safe and at ease with the steps that they had taken. Next, on to the welcome, fantastic, we barely got through the door before we were warmly welcomed by Nathan. The suite exceeded our expectations, - a George Street view with a multiple aspect vista - So welcomed in the current climate. We had dinner on both nights, and I have to say it was some of the best quality food I have tasted. Breakfast was served until a very leisurely time of 11 am, but what quality, we sampled both the traditional Scottish and the Vegetarian version too. James excelled in his attention to detail. Room service was available for all drinks and Natasha, who looked after us in the restaurant, was so efficient and friendly too. Overall, this must be one of the best stays in recent memory. We can’t wait to book again and were so pleased the hotel has re-opened. The front of house staff were brilliant, no question too small for them to answer or attend to. The late checkout was very welcomed too, and Steph made it seamless. Such great staff and a credit to The George…
We returned to the hotel for two nights to celebrate our first Anniversay, we married at the hotel and always planned to go back so didn't want to cancel because of the Covid situation. All the staff were great, there's limited people working and their all doing jobs other than their own, e.g the concierge was also managing reception however they all managed extremely well and were so nice and accommodating. We were provided with an upgrade and a bottle of fizz to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel is currently offering a club lounge deal which includes breakfast, evening canapés and drinks, the drinks were served in our room and the staff were more than happy to run up and down the stairs for us to top us up. The food was fantastic as always and it was a fabulous stay. I really hope things pick up soon and this hotel returns back to its bustling self. Thank you to Nathan, Steph and Natasha for looking after us during our stay.…
We recently stayed at this wonderful hotel, just when it reopened, and from the moment we arrived until we left we were looked after so well by all the amazing staff. These are difficult times but the hotel has taken every measure to make sure you will be safe, and you can still enjoy a fantastic stay. We also very much enjoyed some great food in the hotel and can’t thank the staff enough as they have adapted well to the current situation. We had access to the club intercontinental which provides breakfast, all day refreshments, evening drinks and canapés (limited time). I believe all guests get access to this at the moment. I’m sure the hotel will keep adapting to enable the best experience possible. The hotel is so well situated for the many shops and attractions. We would certainly recommend staying here and we hope to return again shortly.…
I arranged a trip back to Scotland to visit family and to experience a real Burns Night and wanted to stay at the George as I really enjoy staying there previously and was delighted to see it was back in the IHG portfolio. The hotel was lovely, well furnished, fantastic food, attentive staff and a great location for exploring Edinburgh city centre however.... From start to finish, my experience of their attempts to help me book into a Burns Night event was a catalogue of missed opportunities and failures to do what they promised. Weeks out, I wanted them to suggest a location for the Burns Night event but they offered to book me into their own hotel event and would call back to confirm. No call back. Called back multiple times to check that I was booked in. No call backs. Eventually told event was cancelled when I checked into hotel. I asked them to suggest an alternative location for a Burns Night (not just for a meal) - they confirmed a booking for Howies. On the night I called Howies to confirm and was told it was only for a Burns meal - not the whole night event, I was already dressed in my full highland kit and it was too late to book anywhere else. Whole night was a fiasco as I had no option but to just stay in and watch TV. After I calmed down I called the hotel to complained and was told by the manager that I would get a letter confirming a free meal on my next visit (not a great offer of compensation but better than nothing). Weeks later - no letter. Called again to chase - told I would get a letter. Weeks later - no letter. Used the IHG website to leave feedback. No reply almost 2 months latter. Ive been a member of the IHG reward club for over 20 years and at the time of the visit was an IHG Ambassador but my experiences of The George has totally soured my belief in IHG.…
