Hotel is in a great location for accessing restaurants and some tourist locations. The staff were polite and friendly when we had problems (we couldn't figure out the TV and had to borrow an iron). There is limited parking but the staff looked after our bags and let us use the parking after checkout before we left the city. The...

Stayed here for 3 nights for a long weekend. Room was very spacious and great location with just a small walk to all you need. Breakfast of smoked salmon and eggs every morning was delicious. Whenever needed a taxi always happy to help and prompt. A great stay and would definitely recommend to those in need of a hotel in...

We stayed at the Edinburgh City Hotel for a long weekend when visiting Edinburgh for a wedding. It was the ideal base to explore the city, or walk for a leisurely afternoon on the meadows. The room was gigantic, which is handy when the other half brings circa 6 wedding outfits to choose from, and I have a full kilt...

Before booking this hotel I read reviews on TA which were a bit mixed. Our experience on our 2 night stay was excellent. Our room was clean and comfortable, and had obviously been recently renovated. The decor was nice and the bed comfortable, and the room had tea and coffee making facilities. Although the weather was warm during our stay,...

The hotel is located very well, but our experience at this hotel was uneven. In our room for the first two nights, my husband and I had a “double” bed that was slightly larger than a twin. We figured it was just the way it was done since we had yet to get a queen bed on our European trip,...

We had two nights at the hotel with our two young boys. All the staff were very helpful. The family room had two separate rooms which was perfect for us. The food in the hotel was reasonably priced and had something to suit all. We were a walk to the castle and to the train station - fantastic

Stayed here for 3 nights on business. Very clean room with a comfy bed. Breakfast decent, and a good selection. Very much based on luck to depend on what size bedroom you get, and whether you get a corner room with a sofa! (saw some of my colleagues rooms). Overall, would recommend.

Stayed here for 2 night break. Room was spacious and clean. We had a large double room for three us. Did not eat at hotel. Convenient for sightseeing , walking distance to castle and royal mile. Definitely would stay again. Staff friendly and helpful. Hotel used to be a large hospital , quite a wee bit of history there too.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
