My wife booked the hotel as a surprise trip for my birthday. We travelled with our 2 young daughters. We didn't realise the hotel was going through vast renovations. On arrival by car we parked across in Charlotte Square and rang the hotel for directions to the car park. The concierge was promptly out across the street to take out...

We arrived early, before our room was ready. Reception staff were very polite and friendly, offering a welcome drink in the lounge. Our room was well appointed and very comfortable and spacious. We loved the pool too. This is a great hotel with excellent staff.

Our first time in Edinburgh & we couldn't ask for a better place to stay. We stayed in a superior room for 2 nights. Couldn't fault the hotel at all, yes there is a lot of building work going on but it didn't affect our stay (Although it was a bit tricky if you lost your bearings) The room was...

Staff were very pleasant and took our luggage to our room for us when we checked in. We had a modern, spacious, clean room with complimentary breakfast in the fridge. The room also had tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was comfortable and we had a very pleasant stay. When we checked out we were able to leave our...

Booked this for my partner's birthday. The room was lovely - huge and very relaxing. The bed was very comfortable. Had a great sleep. Bathroom was very clean. Swimming pool was quiet and warm. Nice sauna too. Did not eat here at night but breakfast was amazing. Staff were friendly and very efficient. Will book again.

Visited for my Boyfriends birthday in December, the room was spotless and the bathroom was very clean. The staff were very pleasant and happy to help you with anything! We had cocktails in the bar both nights which were decent prices to. Only down fall was I pre booked breakfast for my boyfriends birthday and asked them to acknowledge it...

The scaffolding on the exterior of the hotel did not bother me and I cannot fault the concierge who welcomed us and took our cases to our room. The room- newly refurbished lovely furnishings and looked out the window and got a view of a wall so a little disappointed but what irritated me more was the lack of hot...

Oh my goodness where do I start ? . Our taxi driver said that the scaffolding had only gone up at the beginning of the week but seriously the scaffolding does not affect the functionality of the hotel. Okay so there is no breakfast room but I personally I can cope with that and I'm sure if I didn't like...

Popped in the Roxburghe to see what was going on as it is currently covered in scaffolding. Refurbishment will be done in July and it all sounds very promising: the atrium is having a major make over with exciting project of a library and sitting space. Lovely news as this was the one area of this otherwise stylish hotel which...

We stayed here for 2 nights away. The staff was lovely and very helpful with everything that we wanted. The room was newly refurbished and it was very nice. The decoration and the little touches were perfect. There was no breakfast on with them refurbishing, but we were provided with daily fresh fruit, yogurts, milk and fresh juice. This was...

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Roxburghe Hotel is currently undergoing a top-to-toe refurbishment. More than 100 of our bedrooms and suites have already been given a smart, new look - and it's these rooms that guests will stay in when they book accommodation. For the next couple of months, we'll be tackling many of the ground-floor spaces, including the hotel restaurant and bar. Whilst these are closed, we will serve a complimentary breakfast as room service or take-away from the lobby until the end of March 2017; dinner will be served in the lounge area and also available as room service. Travel in style and stay in The Roxburghe Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh city center. The hotel rewards its guests with an unrivaled location on historic Charlotte Square. This premier 4 star hotel has recently refurbished its meeting space, public areas and all 198 bedrooms, many with views of Edinburgh Castle. Ideally located between George Street, the stylish home of the cities top bars, restaurants and boutique shops and Rose Street with more traditional pubs and eateries. ... more   less
